RNC Calls for Immigration Reform, but No Pathway to Citizenship

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) -- The Republican National Committee passed a resolution Friday calling on President Obama and Congress to pass immigration reform legislation before the end of the year, but it did not include a pathway to citizenship for any of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in this country, unlike the bipartisan legislation passed by the Senate in June.

The resolution criticized the current system, calling it “premised upon obsolete public policy” and “outdated technology,” and said the “best deterrent to illegal immigration is a well-functioning program for legal immigration, which we do not have.”

The resolution called on the president and Congress to create a new work permit program, which, according to the resolution, would “allow foreign nationals who are currently in the country and have not violated any other laws of the U.S. to come forward and register and be allowed to remain and work in the U.S.”

The language, though, specifically excluded a path to citizenship. The work permit, which would need to be renewed every two years, would “not result in application for citizenship nor any family members entering the U.S.” It would also require the immigrant to have “proof of continuous employment,” with no more than two months per year of unemployment.

The resolution called on Congress to create a special legal status for undocumented immigrants brought to America as children, a group known as “DREAMers” by immigration activists. The name came from the DREAM Act, legislation created for minors who were brought to this country illegally by their parents to be able to gain legal status.

Their classification for those brought to America as children also would include a work permit, but it would be renewable every five years. That, too, would have no pathway to citizenship and require proof of employment or attendance in school.

The resolution called for increased border security, including the completion of a border fence and increased law enforcement or military patrols, as well as mandatory employer use of the E-verify system.. Yup can already tell this bill is a sham.Obama will never allow the completion of a border fence and increased law enforcement or military patrols.mandatory employer use of the E-verify system.. what happens if employer does not use E-verify system.. I can see it now Holder will send back a note don't call us and we want call you.

Right, “no pathway to citizenship” like the green card was abolished or something. The LORD smite them for their open, shameless lies.

So the GOP has “called on the president and Congress to...“allow...(ILLEGALS) currently in the country and have not violated any other laws of the U.S. to ...be allowed to remain and work in the U.S.”

Unbelievable. Is that what passes for a republican party these days?

How about calling on the president to round them up and deport them for breaking the law!

This is amnesty. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here, the object of their crime, is amnesty. Citizenship is just the cherry on top.

The RNC plan is amnesty.

The illegals are already here.
Law enforcement is purposely not enforcing the laws.
The legislature is busy debating which additional laws they need to pass to solve the "problem".
The solution is not more laws.
The government is broken.

Why can’t the GOP get a simple winning message together on this issue? They are so inept.

When the border is sealed off, completely secure, then we are will support a path to citizenship. But citizenship will never come to a vote until the border is sealed so we suggest anyone that favors a path to citizenship get busy sealing the border, and we mean sealed tight as a drum!

The path to citizenship is a sealed border so this issue is settled once and for all and that we are not back here again in five years dealing with this all over again.

Do we make ourselves clear? Seal the border first!

Years ago, the moribund MN Republican Party tried to change its name to something that never stuck. Now the national GOP can change its name: The Hari-Kari Party.

I talked to staffers in both Rubio's office and McCain's office. I told them I thought any plan that included a pathway background check should include cross checking voter registration roles so those who have been stealing our legal votes by committing felony fraud would be bumped out of the process ans sent packing.

McCain's office thought that was an antagonistic idea. Rubio's office had no comment and said they'd get back to me. They never did.

Yep.

And E-Verify is another overwhelmingly intrusive national database, with every American citizen required to be in it in order to receive government permission to earn their daily bread.

It's entering mark of the beast territory, frankly.

They fail in their fundamental sworn duty to protect the states from invasion, and then ask the American people to give up all of their liberty as a "solution."

Pathetic.

Conservatives need to speak up and speak out against E-Verify.

Here’s how bad it is. The legislative branch is supposed to make laws, and the executive’s job is to enforce them. Right?
Well, the executive (Obama & Holder) isn’t enforcing the immigration laws but is suggesting (as it has become used to doing, through others) that if it doesn’t get a ‘65/’86 ‘mulligan’—that it will usurp the function of a coequal branch of government and by executive order repeal the ‘Immigration and Naturalization’ title in the US Code.

And much more than that, that King Obama will pass new law by personal fiat.

They sure as hell have you fooled. Why should we ever give these people legalization of status let alone citizenship. We have the rule of law, And what about the 4 million waiting their turn overseas who have completed all the paperwork?

I support E-verify. It is more fraud proof than the current I-9 process.

And Repubs will do nothing about it. Both D & R have worked together to advance an agenda contrary to law. They do so now and will in the future.

They BOTH must go.

Okay, good start. But then they went downhill – fast,” said Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice. “It says that you can graduate from our universities and serve in our armed forces, but you can’t be a citizen.

Sharry thinks they should go to the head of the line. Any foreign national can apply for naturalization and citizenship from their home country. Entering and living illegally in this country gives a person no special rights.
