The left loves to hate Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, but one usually left-leaning TV host announced her gratitude to the country’s toughest sheriff.
Sheriff Joe, Nancy Grace says, saved her life.
Grace announced on her HLN program that Arpaio likely saved her life and the life of her children after stopping a New York man who had been harassing her with death threats.
"I want to personally thank Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona. I was apparently followed for four years by a bad New York man. He then repeatedly threatened my life. He was apprehended en route after quitting his job and selling all of his belongings," Grace said. "He was stopped thanks to Arpaio--stopped with a car loaded with guns, knives, handcuffs, zip ties, a police band radio and more. He could have ended my life. But more important, he could have harmed my children. Sheriff Arpaio, Detective Mackowitz, and New York officials, I want to thank you especially on behalf of my children."
Sheriff Arpaio’s detectives intercepted several threats on the life of HLN anchor Grace during their coverage of the Jodi Arias trial. They traced this threat to Bath, NY, where they arrested David Lee Simpson while he was on route to “kill” Nancy Grace in her home state. A clearly mentally-deranged Simpson claimed he was in love with Arias, and Tweeted that he, not Arias, was responsible for her ex-boyfriend's murder.
In the same string of Tweets, Simpson indicated he was in Arizona and threatened to "slit Nancy Grace's throat." Investigators found he was actually still in New York at the time. Simpson also used Twitter to threaten a Phoenix woman, who "stated she was scared to death."
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office investigators tracked the Twitter account to Simpson and flew to New York to interview him.
On July 20, Bath and Maricopa County authorities searched a travel camper and car belonging to Simpson. They said they found two guns, a pair of handcuffs, several knives, binoculars, shotgun ammunition, a police scanner and receipts for purchases of two shotguns and a rifle.
Simpson was subsequently arrested, and been brought to Phoenix, where he was indicted on three felony counts and awaits trial.
That Sheriff Joe and his deputies have an impact that extends far beyond the confines of America's 4th largest county should not come as a surprise. Arpaio’s office – in that single county – apprehends a staggering 25% of all criminal illegal aliens in the entire United States every year. And a 2011 Pew survey showed that a remarkable 80% of all illegal aliens apprehended by Arpaio’s department were headed for states other than Arizona.

He is one of the good guys and just doing his job - regardless of the politics involved. He is to be commended for a job well done -

Everyone is protected under the first amendment, not just those we agree with. And most importantly he potentially saved the lives of innocent children. Innocents must always be protected.
