...too dumb/lazy to do much else than farm work.

***
I have never done farm work, but I live near some farms. From what I can see, one needs smarts and ambition to do that kind of work.

Elitism regarding manual labor is quite leftist.

The word “urban” is Latin for city - a ridiculous redundancy to speak of “urban cities.”

And "scampi" is Italian for "shrimp".
Many years ago at an Italian restaurant down near Atlantic City I asked if they had "shrimp scampi". The waitress laughed that when somebody orders "shrimp scampi", they are ordering shrimp shrimp. She said she knew what I was talking about but recommended the scampi fra diavolo. Good recommendation.

I think it was Nixon who refused to help N.Y. when it needed money. Headline was Nixon to N.Y. Go to Hell. I think Obamma should tell Detroit the same thing.

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember the music - and the excuses. Their demise was racist, urban whitey's fault.
But when "we" run the cities - mayors, city councils, schools, etc. - well then, our problems will be over.
Yeah, HTF is that workin' out for ya'? Racist morons.

Hi.

I live in a rural town in Colorado, pop 550. We are chronically broke but never near bankruptcy. The running joke in town is that drivers in town all look drunk as they weave down the streets trying (without success) to miss the potholes.

Life is very good here.

I’ll never live in any of them.

More than 100 urban U.S. cities “are having the same problems we’re having,” Mr. Bing said. “We may be one of the first. We are the largest. But we absolutely will not be the last. And so we have got to set a benchmark in terms how to fix our cities.”

This is precisely why it must not happen. The federal government is not some infinite pile of other people's money. If one city gets bailed out, then the other 100 will immediately get in line for theirs, and the taxpayers can't afford it. The precedent that needs to be set is that cities that can't manage their finances get punished.

Oh, you mean all the ones run for generations by Commie Dems? And now you think everyone else wants to enable your bad decisions at their expense? Eff off.

...and they’re all governed by democrats...are we wrong to infer that that may be the problem?

Yes, that would be profiling, and profiling is wrong. [/s]

Maybe the Dems should form a new group within the DNC: Mayors of bankrupt cities. Get a big block of rooms for their first convention. But don’t spare the free drinks and entertainment. Better hold this one in Vegas, if Bamster will allow it. (Just don’t let Moochelle in on it.)

Well if there are 100 other cities are in the same shape, it must be OK. Must be some sort of global warming thing or something in the water.

Bing has done all he can as Mayor to turn Detroit around. He has been fought by Council and the Unions. Bing is a good guy. He has been working with the EM to try and solve Detroit’s problems. Most of the graft occurred during the Coleman Young and Kirkpatrick years. They were the masters of corruption.

I grew up in a slightly smaller hamlet. The main street was a provincial highway, so that wasn’t a problem. Other streets were gravel or dirt. We didn’t have potholes; but we did have washboard.

“Detroit Mayor Bing: “More than 100 urban U.S. cities “are having the same problems we’re having”, And all of them are run by democrats. “

Ok, and I say let all 100 of them twist in the wind and live or die with with their decisions.

We’ve let the kids run the candy store for too long. They gave all the candy to their friends and used the money from the cash register to buy liquor. The Democrat party is a party of children. They need to go to their rooms for a long timeout.

And all should suffer the same fate. And may the political perps who caused the mess be chased, caught, and put to death...and their funds be taken from their families and given to those who were promised them.

Mr. Bing, you and your people need to look in the mirror and examine the content of your characters. The same thing needs to be done in the more than 100 urban U.S. cities with the same problem. When less than 50% of your kids graduate high school, and most that do graduate are still illiterates, then you will have problems competing. While immigrants (legal or not) may not always be well educated, they are willing to work their butts off. Mr. Bing, your people are lazy. Combine that with ignorance and an entitlement mentality and no one wants to be around you and your people. Throw in your gangs of thugs, drugs, crime and violence then you have even more people that do not want to be around you and your people. That is why people have left Detroit and are leaving 100's of urban cities. Keep you hands off my wallet and may you learn your lesson by wallowing in your own filth.

AMEN.

I really hate to sound blunt, but in the end, the Black community has been let down the actions of their own political leaders--too many of whom are sympathetic to Blacks who have a "Kill whitey!" attitude. Go look at the actions of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton or the words of the religious leaders at the churches President Obama attended before becoming President like Jeremiah Wright--pretty scary, to say the least. Blacks used to be applauded for making jazz music popular and the early development of rock and roll music; now, hip-hop music, especially gangsta rap, is turning off way too many people.

In short, the Black community has nobody but themselves to blame for creating many urban problems.
