Twitter Explains Why White People Riot (She had to reach back to 1919 for an example)

With the George Zimmerman case winding down, another funny hashtag addresses the widespread fear of blacks rioting.

There's lots of buzz and fear out there about black people rioting in the streets if a verdict other than "guilty" is handed down in the George Zimmerman case. As the trial winds down, there's no shortage of fearmongering in the media, from radio and TV to print and online.

But black folks aren't the only ones with the capacity to channel hot emotions through destructive means. No one seems to remember the Red Summer race riots of 1919, an entire season of deadly riots mostly sparked and led by whites. Everyone also forgets how soccer and hockey fans like to burn things up and tear things down when their favorite teams win or lose.

But the question posited is always whether or not black people will riot in cases like this. If George Zimmerman is acquitted, will black people be angry enough to resort to violence? Why aren't we worried about other folks rioting if Zimmerman is found guilty? Surely it couldn't be that, collectively, blacks are still seen as savage creatures who can't help resorting to primitive means of emotional dealing, right? Nah, couldn't be that.

More interestingly, the largest Red Summer riot was in Washington DC, and in that riot 5 black people were killed and 10 white people.

Also, what started the Red Summer riots?

Leftist white union members were upset that employers had hired nonunion black men as replacement employees during the war.

So it was racist white Bolsheviks who were the most responsible party.

I don’t know. But blacks were heavily recruited by various northern states trying to fill their quotas without inconveniencing their white citizens. Notably by recruiting among the contraband camps where escaping slaves took refuge near Union army camps.

There just weren’t many blacks in the north.

For $300, there was NO inconvenience...but who had $300? It certainly wasn't the Irish immigrant who was already competing against blacks for low end jobs and now saw the odds against being drafted drop dramatically since the states STILL had to meet their quota.

I don’t think riots over a Zimmerman verdict (either way) will be limited to Florida.

No one is saying whites can't be nutty, criminal or base, but when it does happen, we're not standing 'with the lowlifes' as a culture.

For example - two white teens in Russia beheaded a homeless man some weeks back.

None of us felt the monsters could have been 'our sons' or brothers or anything. We don't feel the two were monsters because other ethic group was unwilling to 'give' them more.

Our reaction when these two are sentenced to death will be relief. None of us identify with them because the color of their skin is white. Our attitude is 'they were white, so what?"... What matters is they were lowlifes' first and white's second... or fiftieth...

We won't jump up and down with glee if they're released. We won't cry and make threats if they're not released. We are NOT one with every lowlife who happens to have our skin color.

Were blacks drafted by the Union during the CW?

Interesting question. The thinking here is that very few were, since the draft only applied to the Union States, and the vast majority of blacks were slaves in the Confederacy when the war bagan. But there were a significant number of blacks who volunteered for service in the Union army after they had been freed, and who joined segregated black units.

Why is it when minorities riot, they're merely exerting their rights. The larger the crowd, the more proof they have been put down by da man. But when whites dare to speak up, they're laughed at and demonized.

Its important to note that a lot of the blacks who escaped the south didn't just come north, they often went to Canada.

I'm guessing a good many northern blacks also went to Canada rather than risk being here if the south won the civil war.

They all suck and I wish we were back in the day when rioters/looters were shot.

Riots have the effect of making white people and businesses move away from the cities forever, and concentrates ghetto blacks into what are effectively urban reservations. When riots break out the National Guard should just drop off some guns and ammo then run for the hills.
