With the George Zimmerman case winding down, another funny hashtag addresses the widespread fear of blacks rioting.
There's lots of buzz and fear out there about black people rioting in the streets if a verdict other than "guilty" is handed down in the George Zimmerman case. As the trial winds down, there's no shortage of fearmongering in the media, from radio and TV to print and online.
But black folks aren't the only ones with the capacity to channel hot emotions through destructive means. No one seems to remember the Red Summer race riots of 1919, an entire season of deadly riots mostly sparked and led by whites. Everyone also forgets how soccer and hockey fans like to burn things up and tear things down when their favorite teams win or lose.
But the question posited is always whether or not black people will riot in cases like this. If George Zimmerman is acquitted, will black people be angry enough to resort to violence? Why aren't we worried about other folks rioting if Zimmerman is found guilty? Surely it couldn't be that, collectively, blacks are still seen as savage creatures who can't help resorting to primitive means of emotional dealing, right? Nah, couldn't be that.

She’s kind of silly this author because while nobody remembers those riots (I never heard of them before and the article tells us nothing about them) pretty much everybody who has studied US History, and many people in NYC, remember the “Draft Riots” that took place there over the drafting of soldiers for the civil war. They were anti-black inasmuch as many black people were attacked and the grievance of the rioters, who were to a large extent Irish immigrants, was that they did not want to go to war to benefit black people since I guess they perceived the war WAS being fought to end slavery even if that was not a stated goal at the time.
Now, somebody smarter than me can come on and tell me how much I screwed up my re-telling of the story of the NYC Draft riots, and that’s OK. But that’s my “recollection” of them and they are quite well remembered in history. But just not our gentle authoress of this piece posted here.
If George Zimmerman is convicted I am going to burn down my black neighbors house....

Not really. I was in the 92 LA riots. If you could walk a short distance to an area and burn it from the ghetto, it got burned. If you had to climb a hill or walk a long way, it didn’t.
The reason why they don’t make it out of the inner city is, if they own a car at all, they never buy more than $5 worth of gas. The remainder is spent on scratch-offs, OE40’s and blunts.
If non-liberal white people were going to riot, they would have rioted after the O.J trial where Simpson, a black man, got set free after murdering several white people. I don’t recall any white citizens torching neighborhoods after that. The only other riots that I can recall in the last 50 ears have been by radical whites trying to destroy property like in Seattle at the WTO meetings in 1999 or the recent May Day riots. The only people who riot now are libs and leftists...and Obamatons.
The phrase "caught in the crossfire" has a certain resonance here. Barbara Waters will be stunned at how quickly Whoopi whips out a switchblade and cuts her throat.

A lot of the blame for the Red Summer riots can be placed squarely on the shoulders of Woodrow Wilson, who in true Democrat form was “a great divider” of the people.
He had ordered the re-segregation of Washington, D.C.
He had encouraged the establishment of vigilante organizations, both to intimidate and harass Germans and other immigrants, mostly Catholics, resulting in the Second Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s.
He and General Pershing, commander of US forces, not only held blacks in great disdain during the war, but did much to prevent either combat participation or recognition for service to them. However, as much as 13% of draftees were black, serving almost exclusively in state National Guard units.
The New York National Guard 369th Infantry regiment (black) had to wear French uniforms to fight, and saw more combat action than any white American unit, suffering 1500 casualties. They were excluded from the US victory parade and white soldiers were ordered not to salute anyone from that regiment, despite their rank.
However, the expression, “How can Johnny return to the farm after he has seen Paris?”, also applied to black soldiers, in that after honorable or even heroic service in war, expecting them to again become second class citizens was not part of their game plan.
Democrats felt otherwise.
N.B.: The greatest fear of those who wanted to oppress the blacks was that they would be able to defend themselves with guns. Thus they were profoundly in favor of gun control for blacks.
They are usually the first victims because they think they have gravitas since they agree with the rioters. They try to join in and get killed. Their last thought is usually “But I wanted to help you people”.

“No, you know, case Zimmerman is convicted, me and some of the other white guys just thought we’d, you know, burn your house down.”

What you see is what you get. If the blacks demonstrate their lack of control and emotion, you have your answer.
Should Zimmerman be found “guilty”, I highly doubt you will see whites resorting to the black type of “savage creatures”. “It ain’t gonna happen!”

I believe the last “white race riot” was in Cicero, IL in 1951.
Prior to WWII most race riots consisted primarily of whites attacking blacks. Since WWII they have been almost exclusively blacks attacking whites (mostly).
The author really ought to review this list, it might answer her question about why people assume any riots will be by blacks.

The left is ready to turn on the sympathy machine, finding every justification possible for burning cars, houses, stores, stealing merchandise and dragging Whites from cars and assaulting them.
‘law enforcement’ is ready to ignore the rioting and arrest the Whites who defend themselves.

Your account of Draft Riots isn’t bad, but your timeline is a bit off.
The riots started 150 years ago today. (!)
The preliminary Emancipation Proclamation was issued in summer of 1862 and the final version January 1, 1863. So ending slavery had been an explicit goal of the war for a year when the riots started.
While the rioters targetted blacks, it was not really a race riot, as such. The mostly Irish rioters also targetted Protestants, cops, soldiers and anybody dressed better than they were.
Leo Frank, lynched in 1915 for being found innocent of a murder he clearly didn’t commit. Oh, and for being jewish on top of that.
