Trayvon died for our sins (Yep, he went there)

If Trayvon Martin had stalked George Zimmerman with a gun and shot him on the evening of February 26, 2012, it’s dead certain he would have been arrested that very nigh, and spent the ensuing months in the slammer, with a very high bail imposed and public opinion stacked against him, with most white Americans inclined to think he was a vicious thug. Finding a jury that could render an objective verdict in the case of a black kid in a hoodie who shot a lighter skinned man named Zimmerman would have been virtually impossible.

In fact, even though he is the person who is dead, Trayvon Martin has been treated to the kinds of character assassination frequently experienced by rape victims. Just as rape victims must prove they did nothing to provoke being raped, black murder victims have to prove they didn’t deserve to be murdered.

It is a crime to be black in this country. In all categories of crime, the number of black men locked up in America’s prisons is vastly disproportionate to their percentage of the population.

But once the racism has been stipulated, the next step must be to seek ways to change the pervasive racist attitudes that poison us all and that get so many black kids killed. Stereotypes about young black men are not only held by self-righteous vigilantes like George Zimmerman, or the fulminating firebrands at Fox News; they’re internalized and incubated in the black community as well. A couple of decades ago, Jesse Jackson was criticized for admitting that even he gets uneasy when he’s on the streets alone and spots three or four young black males coming his way. There’s barely an American to be found anywhere who doesn’t experience a spike in blood pressure at the sight.....

False. If Trayvon were the neighborhood watch person, local to that neighborhood, and Zimmerman was a Hispanic Youth whom the neighborhood watch guy had followed, and if Zimmerman had attacked Trayvon in the manner that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman, then Trayvon would have been excercising legitimate self-defense.

Given all the same facts, and merely a switching of races, the neighborhood watch person who did not initiate the fight, should not be charged. If that happened to be a black man, young or old, named Trayvon Martin, then Trayvon Martin would have been acting in self-defense.

This is why jurors exist: to separate out those extraneous issues like who was what race, get at the actual facts, and Establish Justice on that basis. Jurors must stand in the way of Tyranny and Mob Rule.

So, IMHO, the author is a lying fool.

I couldn’t agree more. I think that was the primary thing that did it. That, plus 40 or so years of propaganda coming out of the glowing box. I know reasonable intelligent people who admitted to crying while listening to his first inaugural speech. Only guilt can account for that. No other emotion is powerful enough.

If Martin had stalked Zimmerman and shot him I agree that he would have, and should have, been arrested. Zimmerman didn’t stalk Martin.
