The Most Expensive Gas In The World
Zero Hedge ^ | 07/07/2013 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 07/07/2013 7:57:27 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

At an incredible $9.98 per gallon, Turkey has the most expensive gasoline in the world - almost triple that of the US - closely followed by Norway at $9.97. In fact, as Bloomberg notes, the US can celebrate its good fortune at being only the 51st most expensive country in the world for gasoline.

So why is it then that so much is made of a rising gas price in the US? Why do we fear $3.80 when Turkey shows us things could be a lot worse? The simple answer lies in the chart below. The US spends the 7th most in the world on gasoline as a percentage of income and is by far the largest among developed economies as a percentage of income.

At 3.06% of income, and being that the US is a consumption-based, low-quality-job, unaffordable-housing-means-driving-to-work nation, the possibility of $4 gas in the not-too-distant future (as Egyptian instability leaks into WTI prices) has a far greater impact on the US than any other of the world's large economies. But then again, we are sure it is all transitory.

Having actually filled up a small car full of gas in Norway....I can vouch for it being expensive.

Last year I was over there, and it was well over $10 per gallon in Norway. And, they produce all of their own gas/petrol but slap high taxes on it

Surprised Turkey is so expensive. You have to be super expensive to have anything cost more than Norway

RE: No diesel in New Zealand?

There is no excise tax on diesel, diesel users pay road user charges instead. The imported cost of diesel currently represents more than 60 per cent of the pump price, with the remainder being freight, GST and importer margin. (Source: www.aa.co.nz)

Things get done with gasoline and diesel, and if you don’t want things done, you tax the sht out of it...

I’m guessing I was close?

I wuz just changing the words to reflect my left friends who worship “How Europe does things”.

I went to Europe over 20 years ago with a gal and she said the US should be like France with higher gas prices.

Don’t recall what her reasoning was but, my reply was Eff em.

They should want to be more like us. We keep the peace in the world so they can tax the hell out of their citizens and act on their wrong world view of Keynesian.

I like ours worldview which is informed by Adam Smith, Alexis de Tocqueville and Hayek.

She had zero idea what I was talking about and I told her to read something by Ayn Rand, since she was so into the spiritual mystics.

She now seems rather resigned to her current life and not looking for a change but, bored as hell.

La, la, la....

I’m still thinking about doing things and having great times sharing experiences with people who too are just curious about the world and others....

My thing...apparently others mileage does vary...

"gooberment “making” 6-10 times as much as the industry per gallon"

And government workers members say the industry is greedy.

Most cars in Turkey are high-mileage diesel vehicles. Russians are flooding market with cheap LNG via LUKOIL stations as well there, about twice less expensive than regular petrol. I’ve been there just a few weeks ago, drove a lot. Fuel is really expensive but I can’t feel if it is really a burden there. It is not affecting living cost that much. Quality food, services are pretty affordable there.
