Bill Maher: It’s ‘Ridiculous,’ ‘Quaint’ & ‘Nonsensical’ to Think 2nd Amendment Can Prevent Tyranny
The Blaze ^ | May 4, 2013 | Erica Ritz

HBO host Bill Maher had MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell as one of his guests on “Real Time” Friday night, and the two were adamant that the Second Amendment cannot protect against tyranny (and that such a conversation shouldn’t even really be happening in this age).

After pointing out the poll where 44% of Republicans said an armed revolution might be necessary in order to protect liberties in the next few years, compared to 18% of Democrats, Maher said:

“Can we get to, first of all, how ridiculous it is for people to think that the Second Amendment protects them from tyranny. Didn’t Waco solve that? We just had the anniversary a couple of weeks ago. Remember Waco? You know what they had in Waco? They had like 1.9 million rounds of ammunition; they had .50 caliber machine guns; they had grenades…What did the government have? Everything else. The winner and still champion – the United States government. Thinking the Second Amendment protects you from tyranny is like thinking the First Amendment protects you from Thor. It’s quaint. It’s ridiculous. It’s nonsensical. And they never get called [on] it!

After Pete Hegseth, a veteran, asked whether Maher could imagine a scenario even in the abstract where liberty might need to be preserved with a weapon, O’Donnell said to audience applause: “Zero. We’re past it. We’re past it!…This country [is] long past the point where you would ever have to rise in arms against this government.”(continued)

Bill is right. 2nd Amendment didn’t prevent the disaster we have right now in our government nor did it prevent a Martial Type Law in Watertown with people drug out of their homes with their hands up and being patted down as they came out... while the suspect was in a boat in the search zone - but the street conveniently not searched.

I still wonder if the goal was for the guy to escape but the boat owner got in the way.

The “Battle of Athens” is an excellent case study of American citizens using their 2nd amendment rights to overthrow tyranny.

I’ll bet it is never taught in schools these days.

The freedom loving people of this country could put a 100 Million man “army” in the field. The leftists would be lucky to field 100 thousand. Freedom loving Americans would make the Taliban look like 3 year old children playing with squirt guns and fizzy drinks.

Add to that the fact that Republican governors also have well equipped forces as well. In addition, I believe 100% of the Air Power would support the freedom loving Americans.

We win! So give up your leftist dreams of Tyranny!!!

Isnt that why OathKeepers dot com is working hard to remind those in the military and law enforcement, that they took and oath to protect the Constitution-—which is the people, not the Govt.....

Maher hopefully misses the point that there will be a steady flow of military to the side of the people.

As the late great Col. Jeff Cooper stated about the Feds with their face covered who attacked Waco and Ruby Ridge-—if they cant even show their face, they are terrorists, to be shot on sight.

Sort of like how a third world nation thinks that having some rifles against the US military will actually make a difference.

It does.

To fight guerrilla warfare you have to out number them by over ten to one.

One guerrilla can tie up ten solders on average. Yeah you can bomb the place to rubble but it will work only if you know where they are.

“Who is winning the war in Afghanistan, in the long run? It sure wasn’t the Soviets, and it’s not currently the USA, either.”

You can thank the ex father in law of the Dead Bomber’s Uncle for that

““The policy of guiding the evolution of Islam and of helping them against our adversaries worked marvelously well in Afghanistan against the Red Army,” explains a former CIA analyst. “The same doctrines can still be used to destabilize what remains of Russian power, and especially to counter Chinese influence in Central Asia.” In a certain sense, the Cold War is still going on. For years Graham Fuller, former Deputy Director of the National Council on Intelligence at the CIA, has been talking up the “modernizing virtues” of the Islamists, insisting on their anti-Statist concept of the economy. Listening to him, you would almost take the Taleban and their Wahhabi allies for liberals. “Islam, in theory at least, is firmly anchored in the traditions of free trade and private enterprise,” wrote Fuller. “The prophet was a trader, as was his first wife. Islam does not glorify the State’s role in the economy.”

Richard Labévière, Dollars for Terror: The United States and Islam, New York: Algora Publishing, 2000, p. 6”

They had like 1.9 million rounds of ammunition; they had .50 caliber machine guns; they had grenades

Where did that come from. Out of his anus? If they had actually found those weapons it would have been splashed all over the news as justification, it was not. But then, I did not buy the lies told by BATF and company concerning Waco. So what does that make me?

The Civil War did not happen by individual action. If the US ever breaks up, it will be by State Action, not some Militia Group.

It is wise to choose the moment for action carefully.

We should get a glimpse of what we actually face this week during the Benghazi hearings. What happens if someone actually decides to look under the forbidden rocks?

We shall see.

If they look, they will find a government running guns and missiles to the Islamists who are trying to build the caliphate around the entire Mediteranean. They will find a government cracking down on Christianity while it supports Islam. And they will collectively yawn because they have no idea of the import of that or any other fact.

Maher is the type who thinks he will have a privileged position in the tyranny as a Minister of Propaganda or at least an apparatchik with privileges at a dacha in the Hamptons.

Yes, they will find what you stated and more. And some will know what it means. Will it be enough? Guess we shall see.

, I have a feeling that a very LARGE amount of the US Military would not act to defend the Political leaders

That problem is understood and being rectified. The military is being reduced in manpower and the infantry is being replaced by techies and drones. The techies will happily operate their computer game things with no regard to the reality of it in the real world and the feminized homosexualized military is rapidly losing all characteristics that would make it a threat to the Rulers. The homosexuals, who will rapidly become a large , eventually dominating portion of the officer corps will be firmly on the side of the Rulers. The female officers and "men" will support the power center that "protects them".

You are right. They make this stuff up (50bmg machine guns, 1.9M rounds of ammo, grenades).

When the shooting starts the petty tyrants (like these sycophants in the media) will get whacked first. Then, it will get progressively harder and harder to find an enemy of the 2nd amendment when these rights stealers—however many remain in a vocal and unguarded position—rediscover that a million serious operators are distributed throughout the nation, not isolated on a plain in TX.

What an idiot. I don’t want firearms to protect me from the government. I want them to help me protect my life, my home and my loved ones from roving bands of thugs in a SHTF scenario.
