Toomey: Background Checks Are Not Gun Control
RCP Video ^ | 4-10-2013

Posted on 04/10/2013 4:54:19 PM PDT by Sir Napsalot

SEN. PAT TOOMEY: I’m a gun owner, and the rights that are enshrined in the Second Amendment are very, very important to me personally, ..... I don’t consider criminal background checks to be gun control. I think it’s just common sense. If you pass a criminal background check, you get to buy a gun, no problem. It’s the people who fail a criminal or mental health background check that we don’t want having guns.

Sir, you keep telling yourself that.

Maybe you will feel less guilty on your own conscience.

With all due respect, you are a turd.

where ever there are "checks" there are recordings of that "check"...its registration and its gun control....

I don't know what to do about illegals, crazies, druggies, and feral animals having guns, but THEY will never obey the law nor will it apply to them....

the only restrictions will be against those legally seeking a gun....

again, the elites can't control the fringe so they control the masses....

If that is the case Mr. Toomey, please mandate the same mandatory NICS check, paperwork, etc. for voting. Put your money where your mouth is.

Also, when this doesn’t stop crime, please resign from your job and go away.

Toomey is an idiot who has betrayed his oath of office.

I have emailed him to let him know that.

Bought by a simple dinner with Obama.

If simpleton Toomey is this naive, he clearly does not belong in DC.

Right. And if you oppose government having lists of gun owners you're a crazy criminal.

I saw last night that the EPA released the personal information of more than 80,000 farm families to the crazies in the environmentalist movement.

But your data is perfectly safe with these people, right? Hah.

I don’t consider criminal background checks to be gun control.

No one but a liberal democRAT is stupid enough to believe that horse squeeze. He's either been bribed or blackmailed.

So, let me get this straight, this Senator thinks the control over the sale of guns by the Federal Government is not a control of guns,

but is common sense?

Yes it is when you consider that background checks will be used to compile lists of gun owners and the arms they have.

The current gun laws and the newly considered gun control bills are wholly in opposition to our rights and the prohibition of the government’s interference with them.

To me taking the oath of office to support and defend the Constitution and then working to undermine it is a treasonable offence.

It’s long past time we need to right the ship of state and rid ourselves of these types of traitors.....take back the media, and get the schools back into the job of teaching and away from indoctrination in Socialism.

Even if we were to properly define “criminal record” and “mental illness” — and even if I said I wouldn’t want same to have the right to arms, the reality is that we ALL have this right and the government has no constitutional authority to deny or “infringe” our rights in this or any other constitutionally-protected area of life. And the good senator swore an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. A lot of us are tired of the abuse of law in WashDC, nearly all of which misconduct shares the common theme of depriving us of our rights, our property, our economic opportunities, our defenses, and our liberty. Let’s vote them out!!

The government gets the records - “When retiring or otherwise relinquishing a Federal Firearms License, these records are sent to the BATFE’s Out-of-Business Records Center.” So someone who wants to be a FFL dealer for a couple of years then move on has has to send his records in.

"It’s the people who fail a criminal or mental health background check that we don’t want having guns illegal narcotics."

How is that war going, lol?

Federal background checks are an opening to registration which becomes an opening to confiscation. The word infringe is a crystal clear explanation, up yours GOP.

BTW, if more law abiding individuals carry, the less likely nuts will be successful with their killing sprees.

Yeah I caught that too. That's a big “OR”.

It is extremely easy to rationalize saying almost “anyone” has mental health problems.

That crazy lady who said we shouldn't own our own kids has serious mental health issues, clearly.

Will/Would she be denied one? Probably not.

What about adults whose parents made them go to a psychologist for like 3 session or something during their teen angst/puberty years against their own will just because they were doing the normal teenage thing and the parents had been convinced by liberals it was some kind of out of control child, or “not their fault.”

Are those adults now subject to mental heath problems? I mean the list goes on and on and on of possible scenarios.

Total ridiculousness....

Almost total full-speed ahead tyranny has been implemented in just over 6 years. Incredible and alien to my 31 year old impression of what I was taught America was.

of course it is.

this country survived hundreds of years without background checks.

and they’re this torqued off when all thge stats show gun deaths are going down the last 10-20 years. with more guns out there than ever.
