Where do you get mylar bags? How do they come? Hardware store? Balloon store?:)
Ummm, defeats the purpose doesn't it?
Inspiring! Nice list and practical, too. Heading to Wal-Mart and my local Sure-fine grocer next week to add to my larder. :)
Someone told me that because of the plasitics in the cans these days cans now have a real expiration date instead of ones just for liability.
oven can dry goods, like flour, powdered milk, powdered buttermilk, beans, lentils, dry, gluten free mixes - like pancake - anything with no fat in them - they will last 20-30 years.
Have plenty of sprouting seeds: mung, alfalfa, lentils - they provide super healthy greens at any time of the year and take up little storage space.
store lemon powder for lemonade - takes up much less room as powder.
Make ghee from organic unsalted butter - will last long time.
Make lard from organic fat back - lasts long time - VERY healthy.
get powdered eggs...
with your stores, keep a book on wild foraging for foods in your area.
You are still the man. Always
Seriously though, Id recommend evaporated milk be added to this list.
You've got bourbon. Why do you need evaporated milk? :-)
instead of evaporated milk - this takes up MUCh less room - one bag makes gallons - and is unlike the milk flakes you get in super markets - when mixed with water and cooled, you cannot tell the difference from regular whole milk.
(I sued to get it from bakeries 40 years ago - now it can be found in health food stores and anywhere they sell Bob’s REd Mill.)

that should be buythecase.net
Jello? Jello? Disgusting stuff, zero nutritional value. I’d rather not survive.
When I was in college, decades ago, we had a drink we called ‘baby smash’ ... eagle brand milk and Jim Beam; you could add a touch of Nestle’s Quick if you were a wuss.
Jellybeans are a really good addition. Just a little touch of sweetness is often enough.
Actually hot spices are almost always found in warm to hot climates. This because ingesting them opens up the capillaries, which cools you down.
Check cans periodically. If a can is bulging on the ends, toss it. It has been contaminated.

I use a permanent marker to write the numeric ‘use by’ month and year date on the top of the cans and on the front labels. That makes them easier to check and rotate.

Just buying a couple of extra items on each shopping trip can add up to a good amount of goods in a while. If one shops weekly, for example, those extra 2-3 items at a time would amount to some 100 items by the end of a year.
If you're serious enough to know that we must have supplies stored = and must have our own supply of water - you should be serious enough to get to H outta Dodge - and somewhere where you have your own water supply - a well, a brooklet, a spring.
What good is the city house/job going to do you if TSHTF and you find yourself in a WROL situation?
Not to mention, the MOST important part of food 'storage' is SEEDS and being able to replentish the food stores on a yearly basis.
If TSHTF, don't count on it being over in 6 months or a year or two. If you can't grow foods, berries, have your own water, etc - you are only delaying the inevitable.
some people may not be able to move - but the majority just think they can't It takes guts. But it can be done. You might not live on the economic level you are now in the city - but that will crumble out from under your butt right quick if TSHTF - and if you don't think it will happen - then why bother storing at all?
Does anyone know of a brand of canned ham and eggs that are similar to the old C-rations? I flippin’ loved those things and everyone else hated them so I could always score a trade favorable to me. I’ve tried Mountain House products, which are pretty good but I’m not crazy about the peppers. If I could find a modern version of the old John Wayne candy bars I would buy up the entire stock. Those things were like bars of gold in the field!
THE best - and organic too!
bump.
Here's a good source for mylar bags and oxygen absorbers:
