Brief and Direct: Why are Firemen Always the First To Be Laid Off?

After garbage workers, that is.

By: Flagstaff (Diary) | February 25th, 2013 at 08:33

Maybe because we’ll miss them the most.

Because the President has forgotten he’s already been elected and he’s been campaigning across the country to defeat his own idea, there are too many sources to quote regarding the dire consequences President Obama sees if the sequester, or Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA), isn’t averted. So without individual attribution here are some of the services we will lose.

Local first responders–fire, police, EMS.

Teachers.

Military “readiness” and “preparedness.”

Airport security and TSA.

Homeland Security. Border Patrol.

FEMA, FDA, NASA.

(Wait a minute, wasn’t NASA killed last year? Here’s one that’s for sure going to save money: the National Drug Intelligence Center, still slated for a $2 million cut to a $20 million dollar budget. Buy it was closed on 6/15/2012. Why does it need a budget?)

FBI, NRC, the federal prison system, SEC.

Sounds awful, until we notice that these “cuts” come out of a budget that’s already scheduled to increase more than the cuts amount to. And that Republicans have offered to give the President emergency authority to allocate these cuts in ways that are “least harmful.”

It’s Obama’s Armageddon

Process for what he claims are dire automatic cuts was HIS IDEA!

Krauthammer: Sequester “Most Ridiculously Hyped Armageddon Since The Mayan Calendar”

Speaking of those scare tactics, those who are paying attention know it’s all a big lie. Charles Krauthammer isn’t the only talking head who has noticed that Obama’s hype doesn’t match reality:

JONATHAN KARL ABC NEWS: The spending cuts represent only a fraction of total federal spending. With the cuts, the federal government will spend about $15 billion more this year than it spent last year. Their impact won’t be felt right away. The government must give employees 30 days notice before they can force them to take that one unpaid day off. That means you’re really going to see the impact sometime in April.

BILL PLANTE CBS NEWS: People here admit that it could take several months for the public to really feel the pain.

MAJOR GARRETT CBS NEWS: Those terrible things, should they occur, won’t happen rapidly. The public could say, maybe the president cried wolf.

The problem is that so few people will actually be well enough informed on this or any other big Washington issue to know who is lying. They’ll just keep following Obama, the Pied Piper of more and more spending and ever higher taxes right off that “fiscal cliff” he said he would save us from!

Ever notice how the buffoons on Capitol Hill and in the state run “media” never say, the sequester is going to cause us to shut down Capitol Hill and send all of the politicians home?

Why are Firemen Always the First To Be Laid Off?

Why is anyone to be laid off?
1. Fire and police are not federal employees.
2. More will be spent in 2013 than in 2012 - there are no cuts!

Demons and Villains and Scare Mongering Running Amok

By: davenj1 (Diary) | February 25th, Obama’s shameful exhibition last week warning against the spending cuts set to automatically go into effect on March 1st is a perfect example of why this president is no leader. Drunk on his reelection, he truly sees himself as the Chosen One, the political messiah who is destined to lead this country by using the bully pulpit.

Trotting out firemen and police officers as stage props has become old news. Want gun control legislation? Invite victims of gun violence to a State of the Union Address. Want universal pre-K in all schools? Fly in some 4-year-old kids from around the country and make sure they are ethnically and economically diverse.

Want your rendition of immigration reform? Hang out with some immigrants surrounding you preferably in a state with a large Hispanic population, but make sure you throw some African, Asian and European immigrants in the crowd as if it is African, Asian and European illegal immigrants crossing the Mexican border.

His use of stage props is disgusting and shameful. Allowing oneself to be a stage prop is just as bad. But that is all this president stands for- polarization and demonization- creating villains where none exist and distorting the truth because he is, well…the president.

Dear Leader has also forgotten (if he ever knew) that first responders, teachers are not paid by the Federal government.

What I want to know is they never lay off “administrators” and office workers.
‘Cause I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t miss most of them.

Exactly right...it’s a form of extortion...
Here in VA we had a gov not too long ago who extorted the state for higher taxes by closing the DMVs...
He’s now a US Senator...
Will we ever learn?

Garbagemen around here work for private companies thank God. I've never seen a garbage strike or budget cuts leaving me without service. For our firemen we contract with surrounding townships volunteer departments. Again, no strikes or lack of service.

“Dear Leader has also forgotten (if he ever knew) that first responders, teachers are not paid by the Federal government.”

President Armageddon knows that and he is certain that the sheeple will believe whatever he says.

“According to a Wall Street Journal article, aptly titled, “President Armageddon,” the author notes that President Obama “just whacked the economy with a roughly $160 billion tax increase in 2013 that he says will do no harm, but he wants us to believe that $85 billion in spending cuts will trigger a recession.” If the president was willing to work with Congress in 2011, instead of threatening to veto specific cuts proposed by Republicans in lieu of the sequester, this government-manufactured “emergency” would not be taking place.”

I did hear H Barbor last night on Fox say he is annoyed to hear the Dems are planning to make sure any reductions will be in the highest visability areas. For example, close all the National Parks but don’t get rid any of the dead wood in the bureauracy.

Just saw a picture of 5 nuke carriers in port together at one time. Kind of looks like Battleship Row in Pearl in 41. Probably his excellency decided that would cause a stir so he had them brought in or not deployed on time.

Face it, we have an aggatator as president, a three card monte dealer to boot.

IBD Editorial Debunks LaHood’s ‘Flight Delays’ Lament About Sequestration

By Tom Blumer | February 26, 2013 | 07:15

Doing the kind of reporting the establishment press would be doing if it were something other than the collection of presidential supplicants it has become, an Investor’s Business Daily editorial Monday evening completely refuted outgoing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood’s claim that a $600 million “cut” (really “a reduction in projected spending”) would hurt the Federal Aviation Administration so badly that flight delays would be an inevitable result. One suspects that similar analyses of other agencies would also reveal that the fears expressed by “President Armageddon” (the Wall Street Journal’s recent nickname for President Obama) have little if any basis in fact — if one bravely assumes that the administration isn’t hell-bent on inflicting the maximum amount of visible pain if sequestration indeed comes to pass.

As I’ve said often, there’s far more of what really amounts to legitimate fact-based reporting (as opposed to White House stenography) in IBD and Wall Street Journal editorials than you’ll find in most of the establishment press’s so-called “straight news reporting” on the same topics. As far as the FAA is concerned, IBD shows that all the agency would have to do is redeploy its existing resources — something which obviously should have been done long ago — and should ultimately privatize the entire operation, as Canada has successfully done (bolds are mine):

Ever notice that they are all in a panic over a 2.3% reduction in the increase of spending while lots of us out here have had to make do with a 50% or more cut in our income?

cry me a river. waaah.

Exactly, they don’t want the taxpayers to realize that they really don’t need a lot of the things their money is confiscated to pay for.

It’s exactly the same reason PBS pulls the “we’re going to kill Big Bird” stunt everytime their funding is threatened. It’s an incredibly stupid idea given the other things that can be cut, but it generates an emotional response against the proposed cuts.

Few things scare people more than the thought of being trapped in a fire and burning to death. So saying that firemen will be laid off will have a much larger impact than saying budget analysts will.

My amateur analysis is that the administration has overplayed it’s hand.

At this point, it’s in the Republican’s best interest to force the sequester to happen. How many people really noticed when the government “shut down” several years back?

If the sequester happens, it isn’t going to alter most people’s lives in the slightest, and that will take all the air out of Obama’s balloon, at least on this issue.

It has ALWAYS been this way. Politicians are the first to trot out that old line when they spend too much. It's a scare tactic at best...retribution against taxpayers at the worst.

If they truly wanted to trim fat, they'd look to city hall or where ever the hacks live.
They do it to draw attention away from the truth.

It is a subtle threat to us subjects of the Ruling Class to shut up and fork more over or else there will be “consequences.”

I don’t understand what the federal government has to do with paying the salaries of CITY firemen? Why is Obama always up on stage with firemen and saying the cuts will effect them? Doesn’t city and county pay the salaries of firemen?
