The Academy Awards Come Out of the Closet

Hollywood has enough of a reputation for being in the pocket of the Democratic Party, but now they not only are in the pocket, they’re in the wallet, the purse, the laptop, the vestibule, the fax machine, the refrigerator, the oven, the slow cooker, shoes, socks, bell, book and candle and just about everything else.

I have not seen this event since 1995. What’ve I missed?

Not much, apparently. ;-)

I quit watching the year Liz Taylor got the best actress award for ‘Butterfield Eight’ (a cheesy role in a cheesy film) over Sophie Loren, who was spectacular in ‘Two Women’.

For my money, ‘Two Women’ was not only a great film...it was THE career benchmark for Loren!

That’s when I wrote the whole thing off. It was MANY years ago.

I quit watching when Woopie Goldberg used to host and use it a a platform to bash republicans. Evidently not much has changed.

I used to be a movie fan. No more. I rarely go to the movies. Why support a bunch of leftists?

Stopped watching when it became fashionable, nay required, to engage in conservative bashing during the opening monologue, the continuing monologue, the presentations, acceptance speeches, notification of commercial breaks, and after Oscar parties.

My annual movie this year was “Indiana Jones and the 13 Dwarves”, although they suckered me in by calling it, “The Hobbit”. 2013 may not have an annual movie...

I haven’t watched much TV OR movies for about 15 years. I am missing nothing but being brain washed.

Only people of LOW IQ can tolerate much of that establishment’s nonsense.

I haven’t watched the Oscars since streaking was popular. Four hours of actors telling me just how much America sucks.

Stopped watching

It doesn't matter to Hollywood if you watch the awards program as long as you continue to pay to see the award attendees.

My wife remembers the last time we watched the Oscars and the exact moment we turned it off. She thinks it was 1992 or 1993. Susan Sarandon was presenting an award to somebody and instead of just presenting the award she went on about some boatload of Haitians being denied entry to the United States. “Their only crime?” she asked. “They all have AIDS.” Apparently, that was following Richard Gere saying something about the Dalai Lama or the Tibetans or something. She can’t remember and I don’t remember it at all. But the Oscars was always more her thing than mine.

boycott stupid hollywood ,TV , news media

They are all liberals/democrats/socialists

democrats are hell bent on making us slaves to the government

I wish the stupid politicians, government bureaucrats, and their stupid government agencies would go away.

the media tells us that politicians have to “do something” and that Republicans have to “work together” and compromise with democrats . bs. I don't want them to do something all I want them to do is go away , take their stupid big overbearing government with them and leave us alone to live our lives in freedom and how we want to . Go away democrats, you sick liberal scum. Louisiana must secede

Who does that? We just wait until things come on Netflix. I know the studio gets some money from that, but since it's mixed in with stuff we actually enjoy - like old episodes of Columbo, we're not cancelling Netflix anytime soon. I'm in no hurry to see anything. And I like being home where I can eat my own food and pause the show to go to the bathroom. I'm no expert, but I've got to believe Hollywood doesn't make money like it used to.

And really... Michelle Obama presenting the Best Picture award! For a political Hollywood film about Hollywood? I didn’t watch to the end nor much in between, especially after the supposed “joke” regarding the actors giving themselves the flu 2 weeks ago so they could look good for tonight. Like eating disorders aren’t already a huge problem. But I guess it’s ok to get the “flu” in the fight against obesity.

LOL!

As a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy - the extended cut version only, though - I somehow knew The Hobbit - Part One: The Big Nothing - was likely to be a disaster, but my wife insisted we go see it for a rare trip to “the big screen.”

A recent flame-up in low back pain encouraged me, despite knowing the consequences, to take some Flexeril just before we left for the theater. I vaguely - very vaguely - recall some predictable schtick in the Bag End house, and some endless helicopter pans of very forgettable dwarves running along in low light. I think there was a dragon with a large eye in there somewhere as well. Not sure. Really didn’t care. I did, however, remember vividly my realization at the end, based on some sort of intuitive knowing, that this was a very worthless piece of dreck, and probably best viewed on such memory-distorting meds that, strangely, left me with a very clear and enjoyable memory of heavily buttered popcorn.

The Oscars? The old adage that 90% of everything is sh*t is probably a gross underestimate of Hollywood since the Sixties, but now the involvement of Obama and the spouse thing removes the “probably” from the equation.

I’ve watched all of Columbo, Quincy, etc. I love watching the British shows too.

They continue to degenerate.

The Mark Wahlberg/Ted joke about an after-Oscars orgy at Jack Nicholson’s was a wry implication of the Roman Polanski drug and rape of a 13 yr old at a similar post Oscar orgy party at Jack Nicholson’s.

We don’t even have cable in my home, and talk about liberating! I can read a book now or go on my Facebook page which is limited to conservatives, or go to Free Republic.

AFAIK the last good movie was Gladiator.
Proximo: I know that you are a man of your word, General. I know that you would die for honor, for Rome, for the memory of your ancestors. But as for me? I'm an entertainer.
