'Lincoln' Screenwriter: Obama Win a Rejection of 'Psychotic' Reagan Era Ideology
Newsbusters ^ | February 15, 2013 | Geoffrey Dickens

Tony Kushner, the screenwriter behind the Oscar nominated movie 'Lincoln,' compared Barack Obama to the 16th president and called the defeat of Mitt Romney a "rejection" of the "Reagan era ideology" that leads to a "frightening" path of "psychotic individualism."

Appearing on Thursday's edition of PBS's Charlie Rose show the openly gay playwright called Obama's evolution on same-sex marriage "Lincolnian" and roasted Ronald Reagan, Romney and the Tea Party:

(VIDEO AT LINK)

TONY KUSHNER: So you have people like these Tea Party people protesting government and then asked if they really want to give up their Social Security payments. And they don't seem to know that, that is actually part of what government is. There's a rejection of the sort of basic idea of human community behind the Reagan, behind Reagan era ideology that is really frightening. And it leads us to terrible, terrible places.

And now that we're facing challenges like climate change that absolutely demand a global collective response, an organized global collective response. We have no hope for survival as a species if we continue down the path of this kind of psychotic individualism...I think we're beginning to see, in the last election we saw, I think, a real rejection. I mean what Romney basically had to offer was the same old trickle-down nonsense and people said I don't believe it any more.

After that rant, Kushner told Rose he was able to sing Obama's praises to his face, when he screened the movie for him: "I also got to say to him at the White House, I thought the way he handled same sex marriage was Lincolnian."

Kushner then continued the historic parallels when he revealed he and his Upper West Side friends woke up terrified on Election Day...

I think it helps when assessing Lincoln’s policy to put it in the context of what he was up against. A comparison of Lincoln’s treatment of suspected bridge burners in Maryland and Confederate treatment of suspected bridge burners in East Tennessee is very much in Lincoln’s favor.

“Americans” like Tony Kushner are the reasons that sometimes I’d like to see a split.

A certain group proved quite effectively that if you repeat a lie often enough, it effectively becomes the Truth when a sufficient majority live by it.

There was a time when the spigot was free to gush forth, but, once the hand of government grabbed hold of the handle, the economic flow was reduced to a stream...then a trickle...and now a drip.

If the libs/socialists desire to understand the historic rise to power of this country (economically and otherwise), they would realize that it happened sans the liberal/socialist agenda. They are the ones responsible for the strangulation of the American economy (including the continued use of such things as social security).

Get the libs/socialists out of the way, watch a country grow and blossom. Put libs in charge of “watering the garden” and you have...well, not enough water to make anything grow (trickle...trickle...trickle)

I’d rather deal with “psychotic individualism” than “bloodthirsty tyrannical governmental collectivism”.

Most liberals prefer the “bloodthirsty tyrannical governmental collectivism” because they think they are too smart to let it become that. They always think they are the smart ones who will reach Utopia with their idiot collectivist notions.

Flipping radio stations during breakfast today, happened upon some NPR show.

It’s a real circle-(blank) of mythologizing. Everything from a black discussion panel (with Cornel West) to a magazine piece on fact- checking.

To whit - they are developing an app into which you can stream a live speech, and they will decode it and send you their own version of whether it’s “true” or not (based on their own database).

So they will take any info outside their belief system, and automatically realign it for you.

Scary.

Kushner is a red-diaper baby and radical leftist fag. He hates everything good and decent and fair and honest and worthwhile. If I had known he wrote the screenplay I would never have seen the movie. From now on, I will vow never to see anything he “playwrites.” He’s disgusting, an embarrassment to humanity, a dung heap, and foul-mouth liar and the spawn of Satan.

Won’t ever see it. After Munich, I refuse to watch anything associated with Kushner.

That's a good point and I agree.. and what we today are up against is Obama's drug-addled brain. :)

Lincoln’s view of a unified nation, ‘the Union’, was driven by knowledge of foreign intentions.

Great Britain had 11,000 troops stationed on our northern border shortly after the War Between The States began. They were there because the Empire intended to invade when ‘the Union” disintergrated.

France moved on Mexico. Napoleon III conspired with Mexican Monarchists to install a King along with thousands of French troops. (See: Napoleon III entry, in Wikipedia.)

Great Britain’s and France’s military actions were both financed by the large private banks in those two countries, which had an interest in seeing that a central national bank, privately owned by themselves, was chartered again in the U.S.

By taking advantage of the war in the U.S.A., the Europeans hoped to move in, seize the tattered remains of the exhausted states, and set up colonies.

Their purpose was to enrich themselves at the expense of the general populations, not just of the U.S. but of Mexico, too.

That is exactly what today’s Globalists seek. International banking interests and international corporatists, they’re using radical left-wingers, “collectivists” if you will, in order to sunder the rights of free men and women here, in this country, and set up a One World Government with themselves in charge. These people, who presently own and control the privately held Federal Reserve Bank of the United States as well as the IMF, the International Bank of Settlements, and in addition have control of the United Nations, are hoping for success this time around.

It is the U.S.Constitution which stands in their way. Our Bill of Rights is a bulwark against serfdom, and they know it. Don’t fall for the talk about secession.

Those proposing succession are falling for the trap. As a Union we have greater strength than apart. Lincoln knew that and we should follow his lead.

Not only that, but he is probably the only person in the world that watches the Today Show and says, “I wish they’d talk about New Your City more.”

I greatly appreciated your informed and historically illuminating post. I have been trying to see a way to unify the nation but without shared values and interests, and with the acrimonious attacks on traditional values, it has been difficult to see America as one again. I reject flatly the idea of secession but it seems the Dem socialists have already seceded and have no more interest in the US system than to loot it. If the US were not history’s greatest golden goose, the left would have no interest in it whatsoever. I believe that is the primary reason the leftists remain Americans—but in name only.
