“To govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.”

With those brave, wise, simple words, Benedict XVI announced an end of his papacy. How stands the Church he has led for eight years?

I read in the Guardian UK yesterday an essay about all of this.

It lamented that 50 years ago, the governments around the world shuddered in fear of a pronouncement from the Vatican decrying their behavior.

Today, the governments of the world simply shake their finger back at Rome and laugh.

The sexual abuse (primarily homosexual) scandal has permanently undermined the Vatican's moral authority.

Satan was very clever. Every western government save a few have embraced homosexuality and abortion.

I wish the pope well in his retirement.

May the next Pope be not only a true witness to Jesus but also oversee the much needed house cleaning of the Church.

Do you clean houses not your own?

Thank goodness you inserted permanently in there. Otherwise your allegiance would be questioned.

You wouldn’t know it by the media reports, but statistically sexual abuse was no more prevalent in the Catholic church than any other institution. Today it is less prevalent. It is true that priests didn’t know what to do about the accusations and were guilty of presuming innocent. The same thing occurs in most cases of sexual abuse. There were plenty of accusations and witnesses of abuse at Penn State for example. The media doesn’t seem to have a need to create a witch hunt for those people, and endlessly recycle the news stories with front page “news” 10 years later.

The media attacks, slanders, and defames the church the same way they do the Tea Party, and the rest of the enemies to Marxism. The fact scandals are not made about abuses in other temples, churches, public schools, etc doesn’t mean abuses are less prevalent, it means they are less relevant in this battle against the enemy. May His will be done.

That is like saying Tea Party extremists are the reason Republicans can’t win elections. The media slanders God’s people and indifferent souls are easily led astray.

The Guardian, that left-loonie rag, as usual is far off the mark.

It lamented that 50 years ago, the governments around the world shuddered in fear of a pronouncement from the Vatican decrying their behavior.

Horsepuckey. Can they give a single example of this happening in a country that didn't have a huge Catholic majority, like Ireland or Italy? The Soviet bloc 50 years ago didn't give a hoot about the Vatican's opinion on any topic.

And the Guardian isn't "lamenting" that; they're celebrating it.

The sexual abuse (primarily homosexual) scandal has permanently undermined the Vatican's moral authority.

"Permanently" is a long time for a 2,000 year old institution. "For some time to come," I'll grant you. Undermining the Church's moral authority was, of course, precisely the Enemy's objective all along.
