Oh, good: ObamaCare may help raise supermarket prices, too

ObamaCare’s benevolent promise to help control and curtail healthcare-related costs is already going magnificently bust; why not just extend the consequences of heightened compliance costs and pricey taxes to an entirely other but equally indispensable economic sector while they’re at it, right?

As the Federal Drug Administration so munificently explains, part of ObamaCare’s overall purpose is to help provide Americans with all of the tools they need to lead healthier lives (with a universal healthcare system that requires society to absorb the costs of individuals’ daily health-related decisions, what choice do they have but to butt into those decisions?) — and so they’re proposing to extend the provision requiring restaurants to disclose nutrition facts to all supermarkets and convenience stores, in order to “help consumers limit excess calorie intake and understand how the foods that they purchase at these establishments fit within their daily caloric and other nutritional needs.” Fox News reports:

Supermarket owners argue a pending federal food-labeling rule that stems from the new health care law would overburden thousands of grocers and convenience store owners — to the tune of $1 billion in the first year alone.

Store owner Tom Heinen said the industry’s profit margins already are razor thin. “When you incur a significant cost, there is no way that that doesn’t get passed on to the customer in some form,” he said...

I am so glad the government is there to protect me from everything that could possibly do me harm......just gives me a warm cozy feeling. (BARF)

I think this labeling relates to our Government’s OBSESSION with INK; Lord knows they’ve used an oil-tanker full printing worthless dollars!

Do they own stock in ink producing companies or something?

Oh, good: ObamaCare may help raise supermarket prices, too.

What's this 'may raise prices' crap? The bureaucracy is the only universe where programs and new rules can be created that will be totally 'costless.'

What is totally brainless is that 90% or all consumers would totally ignore any additional 'nutritional info' if it were available. The government is the only group of people who believe otherwise. It's bad enough that food prices have gone up significantly in the last year without the benefit of mindless additional rules. Is there a word for 'governance by children?' How about 'governane by retards?'

My husband and I have different insurance.

My insurance premium went up 100%.
The drug plan went up 33%,
The supplement went up 15%.

My husbands went up 41%.

My coverage for the time being is the same except the drug coverage has been reduced by 25%.

My husbands coverage has been reduced from the insurance paying 50% of the bill to paying 10% of the bill.

Isn’t obamaCare wonderful?

The cost of obamaCare demanding labeling will add billions to the cost of food........
School lunches are already keeping kids hungry.
Medically necessary drugs are being denied.
Medically necessary surgeries and treatment are being denied.
If the government can under obamaCare determine that one thing is to costly to cover, they can determine anything to costly to cover.

Healthcare in general reaches out to so many facets of the economy that, of course it’s going to have an effect on groceries. THAT’S THE INTENT!!! TO B-R-E-A-K the E-C-O-N-O-M-Y to pieces. Geez! What a “duh” moment!

It's not a social politically incorrect statement when applied to elected retards and bureaucrats. It's demonstrable fact. I feel confidently safe using it properly.

Cigarette smokers can be charged extra-surcharges due to their “unhealthy” habit.

So, will drug-abusers be charged more? Will mountain-climbers be charged more? Will sky-divers be charged more? Will people with bad driving records be charged more?

Since EVERYTHING you do affects your “health,” how long before the government will want to control EVERYTHING that we do?!?!

I guarantee it IS coming!

I get to see doctors who don’t really speak English all that well, receive generic drugs from 15 years ago and have to travel almost two hours to the hospital (though the clinic is close-by), but is is almost free.

How about people with HIV/AIDS or other similar diseases? What about felons, aren’t they in a dangerous line of work? Aren’t homosexuals more likely to have risky sex, binge drink, do certain drugs (”poppers” for instance) and committ suicide more often than a heterosexual?

Cigarette smokers can be charged extra-surcharges due to their “unhealthy” habit.

This is nothing new. Insurance companies have always had this option.

I have a hard time getting too worked up over this. Conservatives should support disclosure of information.

If McDonald's can figure out what a Big Mac is, a supermarket can figure out what its sandwiches will be. Even Subway has its sandwiches down to a "science."

90%?? Ha! 99.9999999%

For 30 years government regulations have required fast-talkers to read us the fine print on radio commercials. What do you suppose the accumulated benefits of the fast-reading of those disclaimers is? Has ANYBODY actually changed their decisions or behavior after hearing those extremely annoying disclaimers? Think of the millions of hours of airtime wasted to no benefit at all.

Just like warnings on ladders, food labels at grocery stores would be totally ignored.
