Forget RINO let’s just call people like Rove and Will what they are: Republicans

Overuse of a word sometimes causes it to lose its meaning. As ugly an insult as being called a “Nazi” once was, in the mind of some Americans who think World War II was fought one hundred years ago, its overuse has caused the word to now connote a “busybody” or a “stickler for rules.”

“Soup Nazi” makes this point. As an insult there is no longer any sting in the word “Nazi.”

RINO “Republican In Name Only” is an insult whose time has come and gone as well. “RINO” as an insult to Republicans who were not conservatives, or failed to stand up to liberals in the public area, had a rather short life. A search of the word reveals that although it may have been around since the 1920s, it didn’t find its way into print until December 1992.

As an insult “RINO” labels someone as an outcast and not in the mainstream of Republicanism. Nevertheless the word RINO has traveled a straight line from indicating someone who is outside the norm to firmly being in the new normal for the GOP.

The question now is: how can someone be insulted by a word that is merely descriptive, truth being a defense to slander? Saying Bill Clinton was an “Impeached President” is descriptive not pejorative. It’s what he is.

The feckless conduct of elected and celebrated Republicans has reached a tipping point. Saying someone is a RINO is now meaningless because when many if not a majority of Republicans act as this current crop acts, NO ONE is a RINO.

“….the Republican Party. It masquerades as our friends, but it is worse than the Democrat Party. Democrats make no pretense of their positions and intensions….. /

"RINO" has reached its end: "Republican" is better. They are all Republicans.

Agree.

Which is why I no longer call myself a Republican.

I am - and will always be - a conservative.

Rove and his ilk can shove it.

Now that Hollywood is an offical branch of the government, they all have to sell their souls to Satan- to become rich and powerful.

They are all the government.

There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats- and the truth is, there hasn’t been for a long time.

We are all the audience of a great on stage drama.

The problem is that not all republicans are the same.

I prefer DIABLO, Democrat In All But Label Only. Today’s Republicans are yesterday’s Democrats, and today’s Democrats are socialist statists. Seriously. Most of today’s Republicans would have fit perfectly into the Democrat Party of the 90’s, maybe even later.

I've said for a while that I fear that Rove and gang are the real Republican Party which is the Big Government Party version 2.0. Freedom lovers and those who believe in Constitutionally limited government are the Republicans In Name Only until we can find a new home.

Reagan and Coolidge were anomalies among Republican presidents. The true Republicans are Hoover, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Bush and Bush - big government, but not quite as quick as the Democrats want.

“The problem is that not all republicans are the same.”

I would hope not. It’s not like we are all clones. It is not like we all goose step to the same drum beat.

To have everyone the same would be creepy.

What is sad is the goose stepping on the left. More taxes, more spending, more debt is the answer to every question.

If you look at the history of the GOP the author is correct. The conservatives carried the party from 1980 to 1988. More often than not they have been the party of the elite and privileged.

The current cropwill sell us out in a second if it benefits their position. They shift to the right when its election time. Any candidate that displays a conservative opinion in off election cycles is quickly thrown overboard. Once demonized they lose any support from the establishment.

I am a RINO (and proud of it) simply because Will, Rove, et. al. are not. My registration is Republican, and I think the best approach is to work within the two party structure, but I am a conservative first and foremost.

I’ve been saying essentially the same thing. It is us conservatives who are actually “republican in name only”, because the party has left us. The republican party is essentially the statist, status quo party of crony capitalism. They differ from democrats merely by degree and the speed they’d like to implement their statism.

YES!

Thank You!

This is what I have been saying for weeks.

The Republicans are just as much our enemies as the Democrats.

We could either A: Fundamentally Transform the GOP into a Conservative Party by getting in at the grassroots level and get our people into low level positions first(karl rove will be fighting us the whole way though)

B. Abandon it like the Whig party before it and move on with our lives. (but wait you say, won't that mean democrat victories?) I hate to tell you this but we sure as Hell aren't getting anywhere with our current strategy, I think Ubama has gotten more of his agenda through with the Repubs than with the Dems because the GOP is obsessed with Bi-partisanship.

Rove is behaving like a 14 year old George Soros.

He probably thinks these are the happiest days of his life.

Yep, I’ve been saying this for years. Conservatives are in the minority in the Republicrat party.

Anyone need any more proof the GOP is nothing but the Judenrat for the MarxoFascists?

If Conservatives want to survive - they better get away from these creeps pronto.

“The current cropwill sell us out in a second if it benefits their position.”

The “center” of the Republican party is shifting leftward.

As the ‘rat party moves ever farther leftward, the Pubbies also sidestep left to fill in the vacuum.

If the political spectrum can be viewed as a continuum, from right to left, I see the Republicans today having shifted into the same area of that continuum that the democrats occupied in, say, 1944.

Kind of like the “conservative” parties are in Europe. That is, they might have _once been_ conservative, but they are no more. The few actual parties in Europe that remain so are the ones that are now branded as being “far-right extremist”….
