Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and many friends of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle tonight. Todd and I first met Chris in Pella, Iowa, when he helped out with security for the premiere of the film “The Undefeated.” And later we became friends with Chris when he was on “Stars Earn Stripes” with Todd. Chris was a wonderful man, a good friend, and a true American hero who loved our country and served honorably. He was loved and admired by so many, and he will never be forgotten.

Kyle's shooter has been taken into police custody. His name is Eddie Ray Routh, 25, of Lancaster, Texas. Routh is in the Marine Corps Individual Ready Reserve.

Why can't it be both? Someone unstable with a little prodding from some rotten source? Is the killer under psychiatric care of any kind? Maybe I'm watching too many movies but I put nothing past this administration.

It is very strange. The media are jumping all over the PTSD meme, not yet proven, so that partially gives away some of the game. I suppose another aspect of the coverage will be to claim that even highly trained real world combat shooters can’t protect themselves with all their expertise, so ordinary Americans shouldn’t be trusted with guns.

But none of it explains the insane rash of shootings across the country, almost as if it’s being choreographed as the gun confiscation debate rages.
