"And so the kinds of things that there's an emerging set of recommendations, not coming from me but coming from the groups we've met with," said Biden today, before a closed door meeting on gun control. "And I'm going to focus on the ones that relate primarily to gun ownership and the type of weapons can be owned. And one is, there is a surprising -- so far -- a surprising recurrence of suggestions that we have universal background checks. Not just close the gun show loophole but total, universal background checks, including private sales."

Biden will present his recommendations on gun control to the president on Tuesday.

said Biden today, before a closed door meeting on gun control.

So, a "closed door meeting" on infringing Second Amendment Rights of American Citizens is just fine, no problems.

However, a "closed door sale" of a firearm by American Citizens exercising Second Amendment Rights is supposed to be decreed "illegal."

I just want to be "perfectly clear" on who is doing what up in DC.

***So what is the purpose of a 4473 every time we purchase a gun then?***

As I said, trade your firearm for another equal to it. When the feds come wanting to know about your old rifle, you can say you no longer have it.

Trade it two or three times is better!

And they certainly don’t have a list of the magazines that go with it!

Hey, Plugs....let me tell you for the very last time. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GUN SHOW LOOPHOLE!

There's no such thing as an "assault rifle", either. But that won't stop the gun grabbers.

Do you think they really care about those poor innocent kids in Connecticut?

Those children are a meaningless abstraction to people like Cuomo and Feinstein. They are a fortuitous means to their ends. What they desire is not to disarm the criminal and mentally ill, who constitute key Democratic constituencies. Instead, they want to disarm the sane and the law-abiding. Now figure out why.

Without a database, the 4473 is of little value. If you are the first owner of a new gun, there will be a paper trail from the manufacturer to the wholesaler and then to the dealer. If you sell that gun to an individual or to at a different gun store, there is no paper trail from the place you bought it to the place you sold it.

From what I have heard the ATF is keeping an illegal gun database, going into gun shops and scanning in all their 4473s.

What, officer?

That old Mosin? Yeah, I sold it to some guy named Frank. Or maybe Jerry. Years ago.

Huh? Oh, medium build, medium height. Stylish haircut, if I remember correctly. Which I don't much anymore. That Oldtimers is a b*tch, dontchaknow!

Well, gotta run. Have a nice day.

In which case the Federal Government could then accuse me of making a straw-man purchase and prosecuting me that way couldn't they?

He has NO DATABASE of firearms owners or what they own.

That we know of. I'm sure he can (legally or illegally)get a list of everyone who ever got a hunting license and based on what tags were bought would tell them rifle or shotgun at least. Plus all CCW holders, Class 3 license holders, etc. That would get him, oh, 30-40 million names or so.

Biden Hints At Outlawing Unregulated "Private" Gun Sales

Like when the US government sold fully automatic weapons to the drug cartels? That kind of private sale?

A 4473 is worthless for tracking a firearm after the first sale.
I’ve bought on 4473 forms lots of firearms over the last 43 years, but have traded off or sold most of them except a few.

I have not bought or traded for years and haven’t been to a BIG gun show in about 10 years.

***Is it reasonable to think it’s “just a form” that goes nowhere? It’s not entered into a database? ***

Buy your firearm with a 4473. Find someone with the same type rifle, swap. You have just destroyed the paper trail.

And just how will he enforce that when he can’t even stop illegal aliens or illegal drugs.

Buy a pistol or rifle. Use it, then trade it to a neighbor. How will he stop that. Gun trading will just go underground.

No, they would have to prove you bought it for someone else. Selling a firearm you legally own to a private citizen is still legal.
