President Says “Right of Conscience” Not Valid for Military Personnel (Satire)

Even though he signed the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), President Obama says he will not abide by its provision protecting military chaplains from being compelled to perform services which violate their moral or religious beliefs.

“I am the Commander-in-Chief,” Obama explained. “It is every soldier’s duty to carry out my orders without hesitation or mental reservation. No religious dogma can be permitted to interfere with this duty.”

The genesis of the so-called “right of conscience” clause in the legislation was the desire to allow chaplains to be excused from performing gay marriages if their religious beliefs are opposed to the concept.

“The notion that those seeking same-sex marriage should just accept a minister from a denomination that accepts this practice is unacceptable,” the President declared. “For an army to function individual consciences must be suppressed. Isn’t there a commandment ‘thou shalt not kill’ in the Christian Bible? We don’t allow individual soldiers a ‘right of conscience’ privilege to refrain from obeying commands to kill enemies. How, then, can we allow individual chaplains a privilege to refrain from marrying soldiers of the same sex?”

I have really been sarcastic today for some reason. My brother says no one is totally useless as they can serve as a good bad example. I think Obama is our best example of a bad example.

Wow, looks like tyranny to me. I suppose any Military Chaplain worth the religious orders that are required for the profession could just decide that being a minister, iman, rabbi, etc. is no longer a legitimate vocation in the military. The void could be filled by any old college grad with a certificate stating he or she is a qualified to be a chaplain. You can get those certificates by mail after submitting a small fee. Mr. Obama, by declaring himself “Commander-in-Chief” over the military including any religious beliefs, has de facto enacted a state religion defined by him. Stay tuned for the Supreme Court cases... On another note, a commission in the U.S. military requires that individuals have to obey lawful orders. Obama can state that the orders are lawful because he deems it so, but that does not include violating religious beliefs of individuals. Should the courts find in Obama’s favor, we have definitely redefined the U.S. Constitution and the freedom of religion principle.
