50 Bold Economic Predictions For 2013
ETF Daily News ^ | January 1, 2013 | Michael Snyder

Posted on 01/02/2013 3:05:14 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Are you ready for a wild 2013? It should be a very interesting year. When the calendar flips over each January, lots of people make lots of lists. They make lists of “resolutions”, but most people never follow through on them. They make lists of “predictions”, but most of those predictions always seem to end up failing. Well, I have decided to put out my own list of predictions for 2013. I openly admit that I won’t get all of these predictions right, and that is okay.

Hopefully I will at least be more accurate than most of the other armchair prognosticators out there. It is important to look ahead and try to get a handle on what is coming, because I believe that the rest of this decade is going to be extraordinarily chaotic for the U.S. economy. The false bubble of debt-fueled prosperity that we are enjoying right now is not going to last much longer. When it comes to an end, the “adjustment” is going to be extremely painful. Those that understand what is happening and have prepared for it will have the best chance of surviving what is about to hit us. I honestly don’t know what everybody else is going to do. Many of the people that don’t see the coming collapse approaching will be totally blindsided by it and will totally give-in to despair when they realize what has happened. But there is no excuse for not seeing what is coming – the signs are everywhere.

So with that being said, the following are 50 bold predictions for 2013…

#1 There will be a major fight between the Republicans and the Democrats over raising the debt ceiling. This will be one of the stories that dominates news headlines in the months of February and March...

I look for the Feds to engage in some Waco styled debacle, which will be followed by multiple other similiar events.

I think almost any well-read person could make all these predictions. I don’t see any going out on a limb here, like “Cowboys to be in Super Bowl” or “Space Aliens to Land”.

I predict the start of a opposing political party, not a third party.

There has been for at least a decade, a one party system, a left and right wing of a Socialist Party, yes there are some very distinct differences, but when push comes to shove, they are in the end united.

America needs an opposition party, that is absolutely opposed to EVERYTHING the current Socialist Party stands for both left and right wings.

Continued deflationary effects of various efforts and policies, such as wage suppression via virtually unfettered immigration and deliberate suppression of key benchmark rates in an effort to spur growth via borrowing that are actually causing a loss of net worth due to frightened Americans building cash reserves, will finally come to a head in the face of the inflationary effects of so much wild Federal Reserve expansion of the money supply.

They’re trapped however, so look for more stimulus, more bailouts and rumblings of price controls, which will lead to shortages. Many more businesses, having been teetering on the brink for years will just fold because price controls make remaining in business not just a breakeven proposition or a manageable loss but a major hit.

This is a pretty standard tactic of newsletter writers and bloggers: make a huge laundry list of predictions — some easy and obvious, some not so. Then wait. Inevitably some will pan out, even some of the long shots.

Then, in subsequent writing, you can headline with “He accurately predicted (whatever)”. No word is mentioned of the large number of “predictions” that never materialized.

So, if you buy his line and make decisions based on new predictions, you are likely to get stung by the large number of misses, and the few hits won’t make up the loss.

Good post.

A one year time frame for all of this is too short.

1. The destruction of the family is a major issue. So few are even bothering to get married anymore. More married people are getting divorced. If you saw the effect of this on children in school, it would shock you (Lanza was one of these). Children from these situations almost can not be taught anything.

2. Economic collapse is inevitable. We (and the world) can NOT continue to break all rules of economics and then expect positive outcomes. Obama, Democrats, RINOS and evil people in general can not make things turn out well just by saying so. Real life is not a movie.

3. Corruption in government, if not total at this point, very shortly will be total. No legislation is going to be proposed/passed based on what should actually be done, but on who stands to gain or avoid blackmail.

4. You're NOT going Galt. You make think you're going Galt, but the government is not going to let you go Galt. You will be fined/punished/taxed in such a way as to decide not to do that again.

5. Now that it has made a significant part of the population REALLY angry, the government is going to go for the guns. All guns. All ammunition. Innocent gun owners first and then the criminals. Have to let criminals commit crimes with guns first to convince the last bit of ignorant people to support gun confiscation. When they get finished, it will be like Singapore here in regard to guns. You don't even want to TALK about guns or anything to do with guns in Singapore (if you're smart).

6. War. War/conflict/civil war is going to happen globally. No moral foundation exists to prevent it and the abject poverty caused by governmental policies is going to lead to desperation among people. So many are going to be so angry and desperate, they'll just want to kill someone. Of course, they'll never actually get to the people who caused all of it -- they are or will be protected by armed guards.

7. The ONLY answer to all of these problems is for people to turn back to God and His Word. If you keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you're getting, until you change what you're doing.

I predict an incident where LEOs are attempting to deprive citizens of their constitutional rights under color of law and will encounter a spontaneous confrontation by armed citizens. Not being accustomed to massive armed resistance, the firefight will be intense and of short duration with the LEOs taking 100% loss!

I thought there was going to be something a bit more prescient. Seems like a fairly safe list that sort of just regurgitates the past year’s headlines (more or less).

Obama will use EO to implement something very close to Card Check, and there will be union organizing drives and elections in most American workplaces with more than 100 employees.

Some form of Student Loan Forgiveness will be enacted.

By the end of the year Obama will be proposing some sort of WPA-style work project to get young people employed. The GOP will feel powerless to stop it and will roll over.

A Wall Street transactions tax will be proposed and will pass. Again Pubbies will roll over as the idea will prove extremely popular with the low-information voter.

The first proposals for a “voluntary” surrender of 401K balances into a new National Pension Plan will be made.

At some point all those US dollar holdings have to come back into the USA and buy up US made goods. That will break the back of the inflation hawks as all those dollars chasing a finite amount of goods will have to push up prices.

As for the debt ceiling, I predict Boner will play chicken once again, but back down at the last moment, like the milquetoast amateur he is.

I really don’t know how things will play out. I still think markets are way too inflated and expect a major contraction at some point.
