In the world, 75% of humans live their lives being ransacked by mafias, cops, and the military

"Something I never see mentioned as an argument for an armed citizenry: look at the everyday life of regular people in the rest of the world, outside of the West and other developped nations. Until today, 75% of humans live their lives being ransacked by mafias, cops, and military. That's why I've always been suspicious of law enforcement and military: these people should never been allowed to outgun the citizenry..... The right to keep and bear arms is a civil right. If you doubt that, consider the history of arms control in England, where members of the Catholic minority (and non-Protestants generally) were prohibited from bearing arms as part of the campaign of general political oppression against them. The Act of Disenfranchisement was still in effect when our Constitution was being written, a fact that surely was on the mind of such Founding Fathers as Daniel Carroll, to say nothing of his brother, Archbishop John Carroll.....The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them......"

The best explanation of why we should be allowed to keep our guns. And even better, I can’t wait to read the book the writer is pushing, “The End Is Near and It’s Going to Be Awesome”. so I can find out why becoming poor will make me happier.

The 2A exists to defend against statists, who have killed over 200 million people in the last 100 years.

The statists point at a few dozen deaths as proof that they must be given free reign.

And, of course, crazy people committed mass murder in socialist countries also, but that never makes the news compared to the millions that the governments kill.

Human history has largely been that of slavery. Uninformed, they are taken by surprise. Unprepared, they are overtaken. Unmotivated, they look for a deliverer. Do you hear those hooves getting closer?

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Far more people have been killed by their governments — or by other people’s governments — than by individuals acting on their own.
