It goes without saying about children. I have to hope there’s a special place in hell for those who abuse or kill the children and elderly.

We have 5 dogs from shelters. We never intended for that to happen but it did. We’re grateful that the Lord has enabled us to give them the best of care and a whole lotta love and they enrich our lives in so many ways. They’re a pleasure. :)

Been there, done that. It’s so sad to see them in that shape.

The poor dog is in L.A., a fate worse than death.

I adopted my female last year from GSROC because at 11 years old her chances of being adopted were slim. Turns out she has no health issues and has worn out her much younger foster mates. I have to constantly remind her to stop pulling so hard after a three mile walk.

we just put down our beloved female rescued basset. She was our 3rd rescue, having been given up because she didn’t get along with other dogs... Until she met the boys. Lost two of those 3 to cancer. They don’t live long enough.

God bless you. We all have a breed we are drawn to. I’m inclined to German Shephards, I have no desire for bassets, but you must love the breed. Aren’t we a bunch of saps for loving them? It’s great!

We seem to have been drawn in by chihuahuas, too. Have two rescues.

This is what we do, rescue a dog, isn’t that great! It doesn’t matter the breed, we just do it. These dogs need a home, I’d rescue a mutt, as it happens, I fall into the GSD breed, and they find us.

German Shepherds find us, we don’t find them. This is what we do.

...Everyone wants puppies or young dogs, we take in the ones no one wants. It is fabulous!

You and I are on the same page. Only our first dog and the third one were young (but their situations were unusual), the rest have been of "a certain advanced age."

You know intuitively that the young dogs have a good chance of adoption, the old guys, not so much, so we take them.

The downside is that you don't have them for long and you know your heart will be broken pretty darn soon, but we feel that is the way it has to be.

I love most dogs; people not so much.

Yep, remember what Mark Twain said.

While I admire German Shepherds, I find the "classic" shepherd with the slightly crouching hind legs less attractive than ones who will never win "Best in Show."

I've seen jet black shepherds as well as snow white ones, usually of tremendous size. Can these truly be German Shepherds or are they mixes?

I live with two German shepherds, Libby and Junior. They are from the same litter and 5 years old. They have it all, both are intelligent and caring and watch over me as much as I over them.

Oratam,

There are generally two lines of German shepherd builds.

German (big boned, tended as a working dog)
http://gsroc.org/available_dogs_detail.asp?ID=2569

American (leaner, angled back, for show)
http://gsroc.org/available_dogs_detail.asp?ID=2619

German shepherds come in many colors.

White: http://gsroc.org/available_dogs_detail.asp?ID=2541

Black: http://gsroc.org/available_dogs_detail.asp?ID=2554

All these purebred German shepherds are available for adoption.

The screen got all blurry when the GSD hugged the man. Yes... mine does that. Bumps you with his big ole’ head and hugs you. The people in the video are just wonderful. Bless them for their work. I hope the dog gets a great family and never goes another day hungry, alone and sleeping on cold concrete. I’ve got to go hug Musket now....

How right you are. We have one rescue and another from a breeder. The rescue reminds us daily by her sweet behavior and obedience how grateful she is.
