Safer Schools
Solutions for a New America blog ^ | 12/16/2012 | David Hass

The two main proposals for making schools safer are: 1. Reduce or eliminate guns in the general population, and 2. Eliminate “gun-free zones” around schools permitting teachers and administrators to bring personal guns to school.

We should seriously consider a third way: build a variety of defensive systems into each school that could stop or at least slow down armed attackers.

Someone has been watching the Roadrunner cartoons. They forgot to include a big safe to drop on the shooter.

How about a 3rd option of not sending your children to these hellholes at all?

I wrote about building design yesterday....corridors that could be locked down...isolating or trapping the bad guy. Video cameras in the halls.

My grammar school was two floors but all the first floor classrooms had exit doors.

These lockdowns "trap" the children. We need to approach a solution as if it were a fire.

What do you think will happen when the defenses are co-opted? Or how can they be abused?
Imagine a government that would lockdown a school to ransom the children against 'rebels'... how far of a stretch is this from a government that trapped people in a building, flooded it with a gas that turned to poison when applied to flame, and set it afire -- then let those agents go w/little to no repercussions? Ours has already done so: Waco, TX.

The attacker at Virginia Tech (also a school) was a student ~ an insider. He was able to trap his victims inside the building with a chain. That also locked out the cops AND combined with chickenwire glass, made sure they couldn't get in.

What was needed was a second student with a firearm!

“....build a variety of defensive systems into each school that could stop or at least slow down armed attackers.”

.
A school is merely one “soft target” among many.

Defensive systems should also be designed for hospitals, assisted-living homes, churches and those “gun-free” zones that offer those make-believe safe areas.

We are a nation under siege but act as if all is well and are in no danger at all.

Some resources on school threats for consideration. (There’s some old news here, but evil, terrorism and massacres never go out of style.)

Probably the best deterrent to gun violence would be a swift and sure death penalty.

If a criminal would be assured of execution within just one or two years after his conviction, without the outrageous interference by federal judges that delays such executions for decades, it would go very far to reduce the number of villains willing to take the risk.

Oddly enough, right now the vast majority of the United States has moved in that direction, with Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground laws, which has forced the people, themselves, to be judge, jury and executioner.

And they most certainly have been carrying out death sentences against criminals in an expeditious manner, and without appeal. Now likely far more than the states do each year.

While the national law is such that only murder might be thus punished by courts, citizens are under no such constraints. They are free to kill murderers, attempted murderers, robbers, burglars, rapists, muggers, and other felons who pose a risk to others.

There is not even an appeal based on mental illness, if the insane person is a threat, they may still be killed without hesitation.

Now compare this to our state and federal courts. Because of their nit picking and squeamishness, the most vile of criminals commit heinous acts without remorse. But were the courts to assume the duties of the people, there would at least be order and process to execution.

But then how will we keep paying all those union people whose union dues get kicked back (I mean “donated”) by said unions to democrat candidates who then vote to give those unions more money and job security?

"1. Reduce or eliminate" feminism and illegitimacy.

As for arming teachers, yes. Arming hysterical socialists would go far toward promoting homeschooling.

"Lord, please help my time."

Safer schools? Really? There is only one logical answer to making schools safer.

GUNS!

Ever hear of a cowardly psycho busting in to a gun show and killing a bunch of folks?

Didn't think so.
