President Obama’s deleterious effect on America’s work ethic

The United States was built on the backs of hard working people. From pilgrims who survived an ocean’s journey and founded a colony at Plymouth to slaves who endured the blistering sun as they harvested cotton to settlers who braved temperatures, terrain and Indians to fulfill a Manifest Destiny, the United States was the product of people who worked like their lives depended on it. And in many cases, they did. In the 20th century however, other than a number of wars, and increasingly, simply living in intercity neighborhoods, most aspects of working in America don’t involve putting your life on the line in order to survive.

Today, America is still powered by work, in whatever form it takes, everything from building bridges to creating smartphone apps to finding investment opportunities. Work has created a foundation for the prosperity that has given the United States two centuries of greatness. Unfortunately, the very concept of work as something positive, something necessary, something that is part of a normal family’s existence, is slowly going away… and it’s no accident.

One wonders what someone could do to destroy the work ethic…

For starters, try two full years of unemployment benefits… although the longest period today has dropped to 83 weeks – a year and a half – President Obama had benefits up to an unprecedented 99 weeks in his first year in office. This, despite the fact that studies show that fully 1/3 of those receiving unemployment benefits find a job within one week of their benefits expiring, and a sizable number of the rest soon thereafter. This is not just an exercise in navel gazing… it has a real impact. In Fort Wayne, Indiana, despite offering between $9 and $20 per hour and a 7% unemployment rate, hundreds of employers cannot fill their open positions. Either they can’t find enough qualified applicants (thank you teachers’ unions) or the pay they are offering is simply not good enough to convince people to give up their unemployment benefits.

And unemployment benefits are not the only government program weighing on the work ethic. Then there is welfare.

Like a lot of Democrats, Obama has never had a real job in his life, and is our first official Slacker President.
A huge slice of his supporters find that very appealing, because that’s their ideal job description.

Hell, even your stating that three times doesn’t add up to full time.
Three times zero is still zero.

hyper-regulation and hypertaxation. No big secret.

DC went from being a sleepy little southern town in the early ‘60’s to a booming metropolis that is the wealthiest in the country today....by manufacturing nothing but red tape and law to bind up the productive in the other 50 states.

Ultimately We the People have only to say “no” to stop the madness.

NO need to apologize!
I was just making a joke.
I’ve done the same thing about a hundred times-—
what happens is I will click POST, then several
seconds later, will click post again, thinking it
hasn’t posted, when it fact, it did post. I think
I did this once and it posted SIX times!

I’m an excessively wordy person, as you might notice if you
search all my replies, but, yes, you’re right, Obama puts me almost BEYOND the words I love to use. With Clinton (and that ended 14 years ago) it was mostly HIM I hated, though it was obvious he had an Agenda which in retrospect served as a dry run for Obama’s much more relentless and comprehensive Agenda. I thought I couldn’t hate anyone more than I hated and was repulsed by Clinton, but it stayed mainly “personal”.Clinton was willing to compromise because his overwhelming desire was to win the majority of Americans over, and at least feel he was being loved, or if not loved, then found irresistible owing to his roguish “charm”.
Obama doesn’t function as an American President as such, but instead as an emissary for the objective interests of every OTHER culture, economy and of course religion (see:Islam) in the world. It’s almost as though it’s not personal with Obama-—he’s just serving as the vehicle for this globally progressive and ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY Agenda.
Remember the pukey formulation Oprah came up with about Tiger Woods years ago, as “America’s Child”? Extend that formulation further and apply it to Obama, who she dubbed
“The One”, i.e., “The World’s President”.
Obama has gone MUCH further than Clinton could’ve dreamed of, and sadly, that seems to be just fine with Clinton. Obama represents the go-for-broke, “all-in” designs of the modern Democratic Party in America. We will survive him, and whatever shreds of Obamacare, etc. still remain after the resistance to it and him has run its course over the next four years.
