New survey results are odd but not hard to decipher: honest journalism is dead

During the months leading up to last month’s election, we saw a remarkable amount of survey data that pointed to a big victory for Mitt Romney.

Nevertheless, almost all of the projections generated by the polls were ultimate proved wrong, so wrong that it really can no longer be successfully argued that people did not lie to pollsters.

If this was the extent of the disinformation we heard and read it would be bad enough, but it gets worse. Reports of a sharp drop in Democrat registration published by a Democrat “think tank” calling itself the “Third Way” (a heretofore unknown group) have also been proved to be wildly inaccurate – so much so that it is hard to accept that their “errors” were honest.

Third Way told us some whoppers that were accepted as true in many corners, this site included. For instance Third Way told us the Democrat registration in New Hampshire had dropped 19.5% and by a smaller but also significant number in Iowa. It is hard to accept that these numbers were not made up out of thin air.

Now the same group is telling us 96% of those who voted for Barack Obama believe the federal debt is a problem with 85% of them favoring increasing taxes on “the wealthy.”

This data is not in and of itself odd or surprising, but added to the rest of the numbers presented by this survey things do get strange.

Almost half (41%) of these voters now want to use spending cuts to control the deficit and another 41% want to just tax the rich out of existence.

Most surprisingly Third Way is telling us that only 5% of Obama’s voters want to raise taxes as the only way to resolve the deficit…

There’s a lot of wiggle room in the word “honest”. Frankly, “honest journalism” is an oxymoron.

There is a massive media bias, obviously.

But the polls were not proven wrong. The polls were incredibly consistent. They stayed the same from June to November — with a minor Romney bump following the first debate.

It was obvious to anyone with a brain that Obama would win easily. And, trading the elections on intrade, trust me, I followed it closely.

This is the most stupid statement I’ve read in weeks. It is wrong.

Why accept the fact that the media lied to us BEFORE the election but not after it?

Perhaps they told the truth and those pre-election surveys WERE accurate but the election results were not.

All I am saying is there is more than one way to reconcile the data.

It is hard to believe massive fraud and cheating gave Obama the election or at least that that some are saying this without proof EXCEPT that the results of the election were so off from the surveys, etc.

This election needs a real good scrutinization from top to bottom. Even if fraud wasn't an issue—what went wrong for our side???

No, we didn't see that at all. This would be true only if you believed we could "unskew" polls.

The RCP average had Obama winning. The average of state polls all showed Obama winning the necessary electoral votes. People like Cook, Sabato, Rotherberg all predicted an Obama win based on the polls. Nate Silver's model was dead on accurate again and it is based on polls - particularly state polls. The polls were accurate. They showed a close race with Obama leading almost throughout. The result was a narrow Obama victory.

Were it not for the Internet and Fox News, the media in the US would be in essence 100% state controlled no different than in Cuba, North Korea or Nazi Germany. I look for Obama in the coming years to implement a new “fairness doctrine” that will shut down talk radio and muzzle Fox News as well as censor the Internet to make his control of the media absolute.

Anytime anyone says “trust me”, its time to run the other direction on ANYTHING they say.

A few of the polls, like Ras, were right, except for the quantity of the dem cheat. Most of the polls, like Third Way were simply axlerod spin polls. Looks like the bamaClaus campaign played Rope-a-Dope like a Stradivarius.

I think we have learned that we have a dishonest conservative media to go along with our dishonest liberal MSM. And this is going to be a difficult problem to overcome, since people on both sides seem to love being lied to.

It's one of the most stupid statements I've seen since a coachisright piece a few months ago that attempted to blame Bubonic Plague in the American Southwest on illegal Mexican immigrants.

What was the purpose of the lies, for the Obama camp, to make our camp look better than it really was? I don’t see the point. It defies logic.

Was it to get Romney to fritter away more cash in places he didn’t have a chance, but was led to believe he did, by the lies?

Yes indeed.

Romney ran the most inane campaign ever. It was ridiculous. He didn’t introduce himself to the general electorate; he neglected to promote his biography. He let the MSM and Team Obama define him. It was political malpractive at best.

He did throw the election, even more than McCain did. Romney was not a serious candidate. Otherwise he would have jumped all over Obama and his weekly acts of treason.

Romney just did enough to make it look like he was trying, without ever doing any real damage to Obama. He milked $1 billion dollars in donations from hard-working right-wingers, to distribute it to D.C. consultants, who did virtually nothing.

The polls accurately reflected this state all along. And so-called ‘conservative’ media covered that up.

I agree with you and the facts, but I am lost where there is any logic in lying by the Obama camp polling that purposely made Romney numbers look more favorable than they were. I don’t get the reasoning there.

Ulsterman reports, in a story series, on the cheery Romney internals- that they were funny numbers distorted, by someone. The discussion is between the White House insider and the Republican insider.

I don’t think some of the bigger polster polls showing Romney up were faked.
Maybe the pollsters were as naive as lots of Americans in thinking both parties and all candidates are truly patriotic and honorable Americans who beleive in the sancity of the Constitution and our elections, while nothing could be further from the truth.

Yesterday there was a thread here regarding the reason no one at GOP, National, State or Romney, ever mentioned much less called out all the obvious voter fraud that tipped the election. It claimed there is some law suit court order, agreed by the RNC in 1982 that prevents the GOP from even mentioning voter fraud.

Once our elections are no longer honest, America’s Freedom and Liberty are truly gone.

It is hard to accept that these numbers were not made up out of thin air...problem for me is that people whom I used to trust like Rasmussen were reporting similar "results" - Republican registration across the country was at its highest level ever and the like - be a long time before I much care about his opinion on anything again.....
