A Sarasota company may be to thank for saving Twinkies.

Hurst Capital, LLLP on Monday filed a letter of intent to acquire the assets of Hostess Brands Inc. with the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York becoming the latest company to step forward to save Twinkies from extinction.

"Hostess has over the past 80 years created several of the most recognizable and powerful brands in the United States,” said Hurst Capital, LLLP Managing General Partner Austin Hurst in a statement. "They have undeniable value and when combined with the other existing assets of the company represent a compelling acquisition opportunity."

Hostess Brands, the bankrupt baker of iconic consumer brands including Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos and Wonder bread, had been in business for 82 years and filed a motion Monday morning seeking permission to close its business and sell its assets, according to the company...

I hope they locate a new plant in a Right-to-Work State, and can then make a profit.

I think a new owner coming out of a bankruptcy can throw unions over the transom.

I doubt they would keep anything other than the brand names, recipes and distribution network.

The competing suitor is the Mexican baker “Grupo Bimbo”, which sounds to me like the name of a harlot girl hobbit who lurks around the local pub.

I wonder what type of sale they are looking for. A corporate buyout might mean ‘assets and liabilities’, while they just might buy out the trademark and good will and perhaps a plant or two.

I hope whatever buyout goes through that it leaves the Union out cold.

I’m sure ‘friends of labor’ have been leaning on the Bankruptcy Judge — thus the offer to mediate between the two. I’m also pretty sure that the Union has been approaching others about a buyout and package deal for a stake in the resultant company — which is what I think this was all about anyway.

Hostess and the union have agreed to go to mediation. Not for sale at the moment.

Correct, leaving aside the dummy bakers, the stinking teamsters would not allow twinkies to be shipped with wonder bread to create more jobs for the bent noses.

There are still opportunities in this for small new local companies to start up and fill the gaps left by Hostess.

Dislocation in markets creates opportunity. This PE company knows it, creative destruction in motion.

Grupo Bimbo is the largest baking company in the world... in some countries, Bimbo is synonymous with "bread," as Xerox is with "copy." as soon as i heard Hostess was planning to liquidate, i thought, "no need to stand in long lines to get the last of the Twinkies, Bimbo would make a play to carrying on the Hostess goodies."

i can't (and i can) believe how silly people are being about spending big bucks to buy unopened boxes of Twinkies... i guess it's not just about the snack itself... i suppose people are interested in owning the packaging before it features another enterprise on it...

Jim Reeves
Bimbo lyrics
Songwriters: MORRIS, RODNEY

Bimbo, Bimbo, where ya gonna go-e-o
Bimbo, Bimbo, whatcha gonna do-e-o
Bimbo, Bimbo, does your mommy know
That you’re goin’ down the road to see a little girleo.

Bimbo is a little boy who’s got a million friends,
And every time he passes by, they all invite him in.
He’ll clap his hands and sing and dance, and talk his baby talk,
With a hole in his pants and his knees a-stickin’ out,
He’s just big enough to walk.

Bimbo, Bimbo, where ya gonna go-e-o
Bimbo, Bimbo, whatcha gonna do-e-o
Bimbo, Bimbo, does your mommy know
That you’re goin’ down the road to see a little girleo.

Bimbo’s got two big blue eyes that light up like a star,
And the way to light them up is to buy him candy bars.
Crackerjacks and bubblegum will start his day off right,
All the girlies follow him just a-beggin’ him for a bite.

Bimbo, Bimbo, candy on your face-e-o,
Bimbo, Bimbo, chewin’ on your gum-e-o.
Bimbo, Bimbo, when you gonna grow
Everybody loves you, little baby Bimbo.

You never catch him sittin’ still, he’s just the rovin’ kind,
Altho’ he’s just a little boy, he’s got a grown-up mind.
He’s always got a shaggy dog a-pullin’ at his clothes,
And everybody calls to him as down the street he goes.

Bimbo, Bimbo, where ya gonna go-e-o
Bimbo, Bimbo, whatcha gonna do-e-o
Bimbo, Bimbo, does your mommy know
That you’re goin’ down the road to see a little girl-e-o

Jim Reeves has the best “doesn’t even try” Spanish dialect, along with Pat Boone on Speedy Gonzales.

Reeves’ “Senor Santa Claus” is a forgotten Christmas classic.

What Bimbo’s of Mexico may have a fight by Hurst. Darn I really wanted to see Bimbos, Twinkies, Ho Ho’s and Ding Dongs just under one roof. I would feel like instead of snack foods America would be talking about its politicians (sarcasm). Now Hurst makes me think of a shifter on a Dodge Charger.
