JERUSALEM – The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of CIA Chief General David Petraeus is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover-up of the attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September.
Perhaps overlooked is the CIA’s role in purportedly using the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to Syrian opposition groups and information those same insurgents include jihadists openly acting under the al-Qaida umbrella.
One week before he was slated to testify before Congress on the Benghazi debacle, Petraeus on Friday night announced his resignation, citing an extramarital affair, and it was reported he will no longer testify.
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., the House Homeland Security Committee chairman, charged in an interview with CNN that Petraeus is “at the center of this, and there are answers that only he has.” King was referring to the Benghazi attacks.
Asked if he will still call for Petraeus testify despite his resignation, Rep. King replied, “Absolutely, to me, he’s an absolutely necessary witness.”
Patraeus resigned at a time when the U.S. intelligence community is facing criticism over both its response to the assault in Benghazi and whether it had early warnings of al-Qaida plans to attack the U.S. mission in that country.
The White House and multiple State Department officials had immediately blamed a crude film about the Islamic figure Mohammad for what they claimed were popular protests that preceded the attacks on the U.S. mission.
According to new, vivid accounts provided by the State Department and intelligence officials, no such popular demonstration took place the night of the attack. Instead, video footage from Benghazi reportedly shows an organized group of armed men attacking the compound, the officials said.
That Benghazi compound is repeatedly referred by the news media to as a “consulate.”

My guess is Petraeus had to know everything that was going on but knowing him he won't tell a thing.He'll just claim its all top secret and wouldn't surprise me if he went fifth amendment on some stuff. And perhaps a little tid- bit of it is but far more has already been revealed right here at the New Media headquarters.
There was lot going on as well.You had an openly gay ambassador procuring weapons of all classes giving them to terror types all over the mid-east,Lybia and Syria that we know about and who knows where else. Even more curious is that when his name hit a terror list and he asked for security none was provided and what little he had was removed.
Almost makes you think something was a foot. Maybe a plan to kidnap Stevens then rescue him by bought and paid for terror types that backfired....nahhh... that's just conspiracy stuff.
Petraeus's remarks about how the CIA never turned down anyone for help is probably more of the reason he quit than the affair, IMHO.
Petraeus has to know that his entire family and friends are in immediate jeopardy of having an accident,Chicago style, if he reveals what he knows. So don't look for him to say anything more than "its all top secret."

According to an Israeli news source I ran across over the past few months, the Ambassador was there because he had something to do with guns. Pro or con, friend or foe, I don't remember. I don't even remember where I read it, because it didn't seem important at the time.
If this is how it was, maybe the Ambassador had to be silenced. That way he'd never be able to talk if the gun running was found out. This would explain the stand down order - just let him die.
Don't re-post this as fact. Like I said, the guns and the ambassador didn't really matter to me at the time. No one was dead yet.
It could also be why Petraeus had to be silenced. Could also be why Hillary is skipping town so she can avoid testifying as well.

If Stevens bodyguards were CIA and its highly rumored they were, even that Stevens himself may have been CIA, than you have to believe that Petraeus was in on it all from the start.
He had to know that the chicago regime asked him to get rid of gdaffi by getting weapons to anyone who could get the job done. Just turned out that the terror boys wound up with the weapons.Assuming that Petraeus was out of that loop is a huge assumption, IMHO.
Let's face it we lost the election because we had to fight axelrod distortions, obama constantly lying about everything and the DBM promoting everything they said.
If this election had been about truth between the two political parties it would not even have been a contest.

THIS part I absolutely agree with, but do not discount the facts here. petraeus was worse than hip deep in this and is protecting himself at the expense of four dead Americans, (this time,) his family, the troops who served under a dishonorable, ambitious criminal, and beyond. Repeating myself yet again, of all petraeus’ sins, infidelity is the most respectable.
Aside from the four killed in Benghazi there is the little matter of some 30k killed in Syria which is on-going. No telling how much Stevens helped them or was it just the Saudis and the Turks? Hard to keep the players in order.
These dumb GOP hacks are to scared to put Hillary under oath.
What makes anyone think they will impeach Obama?

I have a feeling we are getting a repeat, CIA was being used as a cover to arm up terrorist.
Exactly, it pales the imagination to think that Petraeus heads the CIA and does not know about gun smuggling to Libya and Syria.He may have designed the op for all we know.
