I really hope someone with more backbone challenges this feckless speaker:

ABC NEWS – Asked whether he will make another attempt to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act, Boehner said “the election changes that” and “Obamacare is the law of the land.”

Hello? Both parties want to hold on to Obamacare. It represents power and there is no way they will give it up.

Many Americans are furious that Obamacare will require them to buy health insurance.

Most of these folks seem to hate the idea that Obama is forcing them to do something more than they hate the idea of shelling out money.

But for those who also care about the money, here are the details.

The good news is that, for most people, the “penalty tax” for those who choose not to buy health insurance will cost a lot less than health insurance.

As with everything tax-related, there’s no simple answer to “How much is the Obamacare penalty tax?” But here are some key points, from FactCheck.org:

The penalty/tax will be phased in from 2014 to 2016.
The minimum penalty/tax in 2016 will be $695 per person and up to 3-times that per family. After 2016, these amounts will increase at the rate of inflation.
The minimum penalty/tax per person will start at $95 in 2014 (and then increase through 2016)
No family will ever pay more than 3X the per-person penalty, regardless of how many people are in the family.
The $695 per-person penalty is only for those who make between $9,500 and ~$37,000 per year. If you make less than ~$9.500, you’re exempt. If you make more than ~$37,000, your penalty is calculated by the following formula...
The penalty is 2.5% of any household income above the level at which you are required to file a tax return. That level is currently $9,500 per person and $19,000 per couple. The penalty on any income above that is 2.5%. So the penalty can get expensive quickly if you make a lot of money.
However, the penalty can never be more than the cost of a “Bronze” heath insurance plan purchased through one of the state “exchanges” that will be created as part of Obamacare. The CBO estimates that these policies will cost $4,500-$5,000 per person and $12,000-$12,500 per family in 2016, with the costs rising thereafter.

So, basically, you’re looking at penalties of approximately the following at the following income levels:

Less than $9,500 income = $0
$9,500 - $37,000 income = $695
$50,000 income = $1,000
$75,000 income = $1,600
$100,000 income = $2,250
$125,000 income = $2,900
$150,000 income = $3,500
$175,000 income = $4,100
$200,000 income = $4,700
Over $200,000 = The cost of a “bronze” health-insurance plan

The IRS will collect the penalty-tax, a fact that will no doubt further enrage those who hate Obamacare.

But here’s some more good news for those folks:

The IRS will not have the power to charge you criminally or seize your assets if you refuse to pay. The IRS will only have the ability to sue you. And the most the IRS can collect from you if it wins the suit is 2X the amount you owe. So if you want to thumb your nose at the penalty-tax, the IRS won’t be able to do as much to you as they could if you refused to pay, say, income tax.

By the way, the following folks will be exempt from the penalty-tax:

Those who make less than $9,500
Employees whose employers only offer plans that cost more than 8% of the employee’s income
Those with “hardships”
Members of Indian tribes
Members of certain religions that don’t pay Social Security tax, such as Amish, Hutterites or Mennonites

"The speaker also revealed that comprehensive, bipartisan immigration overhaul would be a top priority of his agenda during the 113th Congress."

The GOP is self destructing. Boehner will not hold the line and no one will challenge him for Speaker. There will be even less base turnout next time. The GOP will turn into the loyal opposition to preserve the fiction that there is a real struggle over issues.

NO, with all due respect, that is NOT what Boehner said. There is room, WITHIN Obamacare, and within the Court system to slow, even halt parts of Obamacare.

What Boehner said is TRUE to a point, as we can REFUSE the State Mandates, under SCOTUS and we have other Court cases yet to be decided.

Let it happen. Let the Bush tax cuts expire, let hospitals and doctors close their doors, let the producers sell their companies rather than pay the fees, let the layoffs begin, let the people have to more money to buy government cars, let the elderly be rationed care, let the elderly die, let the indigent vote themselves funds from the public through.

The sooner, the better. Prepare, people.

The sad thing is: He’s right. It was upheld by the SCotUS. The liberals still control the senate and the white house. Boehner could spend all day every day introducing bills to repeal it and they won’t go anywhere. Even if they kept defunding it in the budgets those budgets won’t pass.

I bet the IRS will find ways to motivate compliance beyond the legal limits of suit and 2X penalty obligation. Those who are in non compliance could find themselves under constant audit, demands for records, interviews with their neighbors and coworkers, etc. Those in business would have other issues about tax compliance permits, inspections, permits, etc.

I guess he forgets that, under the Constitution (I know, Boehner doesn’t follow the Constitution, either) Congress doesn’t have the power to mandate health care on any one. There’s also IPAB and the fact that revenue measures for 0Care originated in the Senate, not The House.

Do you see Obama and Harry Reid jumping on board to your proposal?

Elections have consequences. Obamacare is here to stay until you get the Democrats out in the Senate and the White House.

What do you expect him to do? It is the law of the land. The House has voted to repeal it already and that bill just dies in the Senate. A bill to reveal will never even hit the President’s desk. Votes to defund will never pass the Senate.

Seriously, we just lost an election. Given a chance to vote in a Republican Senate and Republican President to repeal Obamacare, the public did just the opposite. They re-elected Obummer and elected more Democrats in the Senate. Infact, we lost more seats in the House than it originally looked like too.

There is no public will to re-fight this. When the public has just made it clear they aren’t with the GOP on an issue, why would you expect Republicans to start down this road again?

All spending bills originate in the House. The Peoples’ house. The House controls the purse strings. That is their power. That gives the House leader even more power than the President.

The President may control the military, but the House can unilaterally shut off their funding. They do not need an act by the Senate to squelch spending. They simply refuse to hold a vote for a continuing resolution.

It takes guts and the ability to present your thoughts in a clear manner to the American people. These are two things that Boehner has proved he doesn't have.

Boehner is 1 million% correct there is absolutely nothing he can do about it

Things he can do:

1. Have daily press conferences where ordinary citizens, who have already been laid off due to Obamacare, tell there stories. Whether it's exploitative or not....I don't care. These are real people with real big problems.

2. Get off the golf course. Obama deservedly took alot of heat for his golfing...but you don't get a single digit handicap in golf, like Boehner has, without spending time on the links. He needs to stop playing at the country club and start mixing/working with the people in this country who are suffering due to Obama's policies.

Quite frankly, the guy has no fight in him and he needs to step aside as House Speaker and let someone else do it.
