The Church Re Elected President Obama

Yes, you read that title correctly.

In total Obama received more support from religious groups than did Romney, but there are some rather surprising totals in the individual listings. First of all, you have the Catholic vote. As we all know there was a huge issue this year when the Supreme Court ruled on ObamaCare because of the mandate that violated the religious freedom of the Catholic Church. It is against the Catholic teaching to use contraceptives or have an abortion, and within this bill is a mandate forcing Catholic institutions to provide contraceptives and abortificient drugs, within their insurance, to their employees. This was a huge deal, AND YET 50% of the Catholic vote went to him?

Then we have the Jewish vote. This is even more surprising because Obama has made it clear in no uncertain terms that his support is with Muslims. You know, the people who hate Jews and want to kill them where ever they find them.

So why then does he receive a whooping 69% of the Jewish vote?

And need I point out the disproportionate amount of black Christians voting for Obama? Need we go there?

This is unacceptable. Before America can have a revolution, the Church must have a revival. This country was founded on Christianity and yet Christians have failed this country in many ways.

This man? This is the man you vote you for? This man who says this is no longer a Christian nation? This man who looks down his nose at people who cling to their guns and bibles? This is you want to rule over you? A man that is disgusted by your faith and works hard at eradicating it completely from the public?

Wake up Church! Wake up Christians! Wake the hell up!

The “Church” is made up of the “faithful”.

Showing up once in awhile doesn’t make one a faithful Catholic.

Many Bishops and Priests spent considerable time and energy, informing their congregants of their responsibility.

The “Church” is fine in that regard.
It is the pretender in need of examining his conscience.

For some reason our voters stayed home. If Romney had just added a few hundred thousand votes to McCain’s total he would have won.

It just may be possible that the words of Ronaldus Maximus below have never rung more true.

“Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors, which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?”

I think Romney would have been great on the economy but was he just to “pale” to bring out our voters?

About 25% of Americans identify themselves as “Catholic”, and they are counted as such when polled. However, only a certain percentage — perhaps, say, 30% — are currently Catholic in any meaningful way. I know people who haven't gone to church (other than for weddings, funerals, etc) since their First Communions thirty years ago, yet they describe themselves on forms and to pollsters as “Catholic”.

I am a practicing Catholic who has been exasperated by the Catholic bishops’ knee-jerk political liberalism (except for abortion), yet even I don't blame the Catholic Church for the Catholics who helped elect Obama. I'd say 90% of the Catholics I know who go to church every week or almost every week voted for Romney. Of the Catholics I know who go about once a month and on Christmas and Easter, about 70% voted for Romney. As for all those Catholics who never go to church...they are not Catholic; they are “Catholic” and I'd bet 90% of them voted for Obama.

In my personal opinion, most Catholics vote like Jews. They get pilloried by Democrats, but they keep right on voting en mass for them.

A little harder look shows you are talking not about the "white" catholic voters, but the "hispanic" Catholic voters. Granted, far too many of any denomination voted for Obama, but that may only mean they are:

1: bamboozled by the treatment of the issue in the MSM ("War on women", all about contraception, as if it would be banned somehow without Obamacare..., and the incessant diminuition of the fundamental Rights to practice one's religion and the Right to life, itself)

and...

2: placing greater priority on 'gimmes' than their spiritual future.

Romney's track record on the issues wasn't in clear contrast to Obama's, either (BIG BOO-BOO GOPe, and many of us said so early on).

Without a clear choice on the issue (Obamacare versus Romneycare, even though Romney said that was a State matter, not Federal), it appears people voted for free phones, etc.

Keep in mind that there are swarming hordes who haven't seen the inside of a church in ages who consider themselves "Catholic", including such notables as Kennedys and SanFran Nan...though it is not mine to judge.

Yes, but there is much work that could have been done and now needs to be done.

It was clear that there was at least one candidate who was morally unacceptable due to his stances on abortion, gay marriage, and the promotion of a fictitious "right" for contraception even when this means infringing upon the genuine Right to religious freedom of others -- 50% of Catholics voted for him anyways.

I would argue that the bishops should have been more clear that pResident 0bama was a morally unacceptable choice. Too many priests and bishops waffled on it, saying "these are the issues, now go vote your conscience." In days past, when most Catholics had properly-formed consciences, perhaps that would have worked. Today, too many Catholics have malformed consciences for the bishops to approach it this way.

That's quite interesting. I'd have thought it would be higher. Much higher. Here we have some loser blaming Evangelicals for the Romney loss. Yet the truth is Evangelicals were 80/20 for Romney.

Some people were saying that evangelicals would not vote for a Mormon. It looks like that may have been true, at least to some extent.

Some within the visible church have priorities that trump what either the Church or the Bible says. Hispanic Catholics obviously care about something else more than they care about church teachings or matters of faith. Same with Blacks.

Right now I’m trying to decide whether to de-friend a friend of mine who is an LCMS pastor and has been posting a bunch of stuff in support of Obama. His wife was my roommate in college and talked about being so pro-life and was LCMS Lutheran also, but we got in a big argument back in 1993 when she was gung-ho for Clinton. Her justification was that Clinton would increase welfare and that would be a way that Christians could make sure the poor got help. I told her that if Christians had their own money they could make sure the poor got help from somebody who could also tell them the saving news of Jesus, who alone offers real change in people’s lives. Nope. The government was her answer to life’s problems. She had grown up in a democrat, union household and that was just that. The government is her god. She can talk the talk about Jesus being Lord and all that, but when push comes to shove the one she trusts as the answer to people’s problems is government.

And her husband seems to have gone the way of Old Testament Israel, being led astray by an (basically, in her heart of hearts) unbelieving wife.

We haven’t been in contact and I’ve only recently spent much time on Facebook so I wasn’t aware of what was going on. Now I really don’t want to hear from either of them and need to figure out whether I’m just angry, afraid to engage with them, or rightly shaking the dust off my feet. I don’t even know how to de-friend somebody so I haven’t done it. I suppose the Matthew passage means I should go to them privately and try to win them over. Sigh.

Before America can have a revolution, the Church must have a revival. This country was founded on Christianity and yet Christians have failed this country in many ways.

While I fully agree with the message that Christians are supposed to be salt and light to this country, that's not the endgame the liberal press is driving this narrative towards. The overwhelming majority of evangelicals who showed up at the voting booth did in fact vote for Romney, but that's not today's narrative. Instead, the press takes the one group that poll exits show voted overwhelmingly for Romney, and tells the nation that this same group should be blamed for the next four years, because they sat out the election?

Does anybody smell a set-up here, besides me?

Naturally, from a voting point of view, this fact should be read in light of one determining factor: religious practice. Catholics and Protestants who go to church every week chose Romney over Obama with a difference of 20%, whereas the Democratic candidate was 25% ahead in terms of the votes gained from individuals who practiced their faith less regularly.

The GOP has problems with blacks, Latinos and single women. They need to appeal to those groups somehow or be locked out of the White House.

The Catholics made the mistake of making yolk with the devil.

The church is big on charity, which is great, but they merged with government to help them collect funds for the charity - charity by force.
Because they got the 30 pieces of silver they wanted, they overwhelmingly supported big government. The congregation simply followed their leaders.

Now, Satan has turned on them, and desires to devour their flesh. How do they turn to their congregation and say "We want them to steal money for us for the sake of the poor, but now it's time to reap what we've sown. Please pray for us and help us get out of this mess we've created for ourselves. "

No offense Catholics. Your hearts were in the right place. It was the for site that was lacking. When you dance with the devil - you get burnt.
This is a teachable moment for Catholics. Charity through the heart - and only from the heart - is truth. Only the truth will keep you free.

If the Catholic clergy started excommunicating its Democrat politician "members" I'd give serious thought to converting.

But if they are totally on board with the entire Obama agenda except for that one paragraph about abortion and contraception, I have no time for them.

One of the major problems in Church is that they think they will win over the pagan by giving them stuff with no strings attached. Toy drives, food drives, clothing drives...who shows up for the goodies?? The same people who voted for a man who believes in infanticide and homosexual marriage. Take a look at the Christmas tree in your church lobby next month. Is it filled with the names of the children of hardworking members who show up a serve? I am just rereading Marvin Olasky’s “The Tragedy of American Compassion”. We have created a welfare entitlement monster.

Romney cut into Obama’s 2008 percentages with Catholics, Jews, and even the overall Protestant vote. Obama lost support in almost all of those listed. The problem is that Romney didn’t get his base out there.
