Why Obama Won — and What Conservatives Must Do
PJ Media ^ | 6 Nov 2012 | Ron Radosh

So what should conservatives do, now that the nation has elected Barack Obama to a second term? The popular vote is fairly split evenly, and we are still a divided nation. Politically, there is nothing ahead but continued stalemate in Congress. The president will attempt to move ahead via executive branch fiat, thereby bypassing Congress.

In this atmosphere, it is foolhardy to give the nation evidence that failure to try and solve problems that are confronting us is the fault of Republicans and conservatives. Those opposed to the direction Obama favors should provide serious and meaningful alternatives of their own, and present them to the nation. They should do everything possible to reveal to the nation that it is the White House, and not the defeated Republicans, that is failing to deal with the coming crisis of a growing entitlement state.

In foreign policy, which is the most dangerous of the coming crises that will face the Obama administration, conservatives should relentlessly forge ahead on issues like the failure of the White House in the murders of our diplomats at Benghazi, which candidate Romney foolishly failed to deal with in the last days of the campaign, and to see to it that there is a change in direction from the failed policies of the past four years. It also means a continuing effort to raise the issue of the danger to the world of the growing radical Islamic movements abroad, to attack their ideology, and to make it clear that although Bin Laden is dead, his death did not put an end to a regrouped al-Qaeda.

Finally, it is essential...

Do WHAT??? We did the best we could in this election. We actually got a candidate who could actually fix the economy, and over half of America rejected him.

Romney ran a better campaign than I expected but let's face it, in reality the base wanted anybody but Romney. We put every other candidate before Romney only to have them destroyed. The base could not have screamed no more if they had tried at the GOP leadership and were ignored.

You can not win without an excited base. You have to get them first and get them excited and instead the GOP just flipped them off. If you do not learn from history of your own party you are just plain stupid.

Rinos do not win...McCain, Dole and Bush I, but hey let's force another one on the base. North Eastern Liberals are not trusted by the South and Mid West but let's ignore history come on we have plenty Republican North Eastern Liberal Presidents...right. That stupid Christian part of our base that do all that ground work let's make sure to not listen to them.

Sorry but as good a job as Romney did with what he had the GOP forgot the most important things in winning....their base and their history but like usual the leadership knows best.

it is compromising of conservative values that got us this mess
which “my way or the highway values would you compromise on?”

sodomy?
abortion?
a balanced budget?
a strong national defense?

its not the “liberal” catholics who refused to vote...oh no they voted for obama and therein lies the part of the problem

"[A]bout half of voters still blame President George W. Bush more than President Barack Obama for the country’s economic problems and most cite the economy as their top issue in the election."

What president has EVER had the employees of the press rush to his aid with excuse after excuse after excuse?

The skid marks on Journalism's shorts are doing their part to help The One!

“So what should conservatives do, now that the nation has elected Barack Obama to a second term?”
1) Get involved with church, get the spiritual house in order.

2) Get involved with alternative media (websites like FR), Facebook, twitter, talk radio: Share information on what’s going on with a particular issue, tell other folks what’s going on. Get info from other than the MSN. Ramp it UP!

3) Get involved with pollwatching and know how to counter any attempts at cheating (such as was seen when Democrat workers wouldn’t let legit Republicans into the polling place Tuesday morning) Report it to the police and election officials.

4) Get prepared for natural or man-made disasters and try to get self sufficient as much as possible. Move away from overcrowded areas.

5) Do their best to get out of debt; if it means three generations under one roof, do it (time was, this was the norm). Pare expenses to the BONE/ as much as possible.

I’d say we must begin today to be a vigorous, vocal and visible opposition, not fading away like the Tea Party movement after 2010. We need to make it clear for the next four years that we are here and that we count.

The social issues include stuff like free contraceptives. If it were only social issues holding back the GOP, then why isn’t Gary Johnson President elect today? When values like personal responsibility disappear, pretty muc everything we see a conservatism disappears with it.

Yeah, it’s funny, that all of the articles that have tried to explain why the GOP, conservatives, and really, the United States, lost, rest on the argument that the electorate naturally would agree with the conservative position on issues if only the conservatives, spoke louder, or more clearly, or with fewer syllables. “To understand us is to agree with us; if you disagree with us, it is only because you don’t understand us!”

No, I think Thomas Sowell and Mark Steyn have it right, and have been saying so since 2008:

The electorate understands perfectly well what conservatives are saying. THEY REJECT IT. They don’t reject it because the packaging is uninteresting (or “lacks charisma”, as these pundits are writing); they reject it because they LIKE dependency and DISLIKE self-reliance. I know that’s hard to accept because it signifies a truly deep sea change in the “American character” or “sense of life.” But I think it’s here.

In response to the question, “What kind of government have you given us?” Benjamin Franklin famously replied “A republic — if you can keep it!”

Sad day. I believe just over 50% of the American people have finally voted not to keep their republic.

Don’t ever watch the MSM ever again. They do not report the truth. Find another way to get the news!

Let's face it: the portion of the citizenry comprised of ignoramouses (well-meaning though they may be), and flat-out lazy takers, who have no shame and see nothing wrong with taking from their neighbors, has finally passed the tipping point. The roller coaster has reached the top of the hill, and it's all downhill from here.

You are 100% correct. We are now the nation of EBT, not the USA. There is little to do but attempt to manage your own affairs and personal finances while the country rots.

Morally, tax avoidance becomes an imperative.

We need to stop listening to Free Republic, Fox News and Conservative Radio as if everyone else listens to these outlets. They don’t.

Rush Limbaugh likes to brag about his 20 million listeners. That leaves 280 million who don't listen to Rush. Like Dick Morris, Rush's prognostications were a load of crap. The pollsters were pretty darned close after all.

I'm just frustrated that I started to believe the predictions of those in conservative media. We just got a reality check.

November 6th is going to be the challenge for your future. A permanently entitled dependent class now controls the political process and every election that follows. That group is the people of densely populated cities. The tipping point has occurred and those people now control the political future of this country. They are hungry and they are growing...exponentially! The democrats know that and they depend on that demographic for their power.

Take a look at the map. Even the deepest blue states are only blue in certain compacted areas but those compacted areas rule the process. Take a hard look at those areas and see if you can figure out how to breaks the chains that they are now under and become fiscally responsible law abiding citizens. Until then, the trend of November 6th will continue and grow even faster.

It's a tough challenge but, it's your future.

God help you in your endeavor.

I’m not talking about compromising conservative values.
I teach class in Catholic Apologetics on the Non-Negotiables.
I’ve also spent 41 years in the Defense business.

In the path back to the America we want, you will never have 33 Senate candidates, 435 House candidates, and a President who meet all of those criteria.

That means that on the road to recovery, you will faced with the responsibility to discern which candidate “Does the least harm”.

We actually got a candidate who could actually fix the economy, and over half of America rejected him. Now we’re in to four more years of devastation, despair, and total, complete, utter stupidity.

The people re-elected this jerk and are going to have to suffer him another four years. They will get what they deserve. I just don't think there are enough of us conservatives on a national scale.

Good luck with all that. I’m done. I’m tired of politics. I don’t care anymore. The republican party cannot win. They cannot convince blacks and hispanics to jump on board - all they want are freebies, and women want to feel better about killing their babies. We could not get rid of Obama with the record he had, there is not much else that can be done.

The way I see it we must first gain control of the mainstream media the general public has completely bought into the Socialist/Marxist mindset.

It’s sad to admit but the general public get their beliefs from what that see in the media. Joseph Goebbels was right “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.”

We lost based on an image liberals have been able to paint of conservatives. They’ve been able to scare minorities and women into thinking we’ll take away all their freedoms. Most people still want a small government and less taxes.

I think you are right!

I work at a University. We actually have professors walking around with ‘Obama’ tee shirts on!

The deck is stacked and has been for a very long time.

Mitt Romney was that candidate...

lets not pretend he was a staunch conservative... he was and is a MA moderate and was fully prepared to compromise with the left

the republican party has put up two moderate candidates and lost both times
we have an immoral majority in this country who has no desire or need for moral law

you cannot leave morality in class and expect society to be moral... God’s laws are not to be left in class but to be lived fully each day...anything less will lead to decay

Sure there is...Dump the Republican Party...I did long ago...

Yes, I voted for this loser even knowing he couldn't win...He couldn't even beat McCain, who couldn't beat Obama...What person in their right mind thought he could beat Obama???

Why would anyone pick a known loser to run against an incumbent and expect to win???

I'll bet there's at least a few that ran in the primary that could've beaten Obama but apparently they weren't 'Republican' enough...

The problem is not the lack of a Ronald Reagan to lead the GOP, but the lack of the electorate who elected Reagan.
