Antarctic ozone shows big improvement (global warming is saving the ozone layer)

The hole in the ozone layer over the Antarctic was the second smallest in the last two decades, data from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites shows.

This year also showed an improvement in the concentration of ozone in the region, with the minimum level recorded hitting its second highest level in twenty years.

However, the reason appears to be a change to warmer temperatures in the Antarctic lower stratosphere, and experts warn that the improvement may not last.

"The ozone hole mainly is caused by chlorine from human-produced chemicals, and these chlorine levels are still sizable in the Antarctic stratosphere," says NASA atmospheric scientist Paul Newman.

"Natural fluctuations in weather patterns resulted in warmer stratospheric temperatures this year. These temperatures led to a smaller ozone hole."

The ozone hole hit its maximum size on September 22, covering 8.2 million square miles - as big as the United States, Canada and Mexico combined. The average figure for the year was 6.9 million square miles, comparing very favorably with the largest hole ever recorded, on September 6, 2000, at 11.5 million square miles.

The hole started making its appearance in the early 1980s.

And the field reversal such as the South Atlantic Anomaly has no effect upon the ozone hole?..... Or the decrease in the strength of the magnetosphere? Combine with solar maximum on a peak activity of about ten solar cycles?

Read a scientific article back in March regarding the two coronal mass ejections that hit earth in one day. They said that the energy was enough to supply all electrical need for New York City for two years. However much of it was reflected back into space due to the CO2 in the atmosphere. They explained that the high CO2 is protecting us!!!

So, to protect earth, Gaia, and all species on it, it is our obligation to produce more CO2?

/never mind, rhetorical question

The coming ice age, no wait, violent storms, no wait, ozone depletion, no wait, global warming, no wait, rapid climate change, no wait, Elvis returns, no wait...

The common denominator over the past four decades has been used-car-salesman-like rush, feigned crisis and sensationalism, no trustworthy data or analysis to back up the absurd claims... Oh, and send money and give up freedoms by ceding control over ever more of your life and lifestyle...

It used to be evil Freon that was the problem; now it is Chlorine.

The chlorine comes directly from the freon released in the past. The freon is destroyed upon exposure to ultraviolet light but releases the chlorine which hangs around and breaks down ozone. How long the chlorine hangs around is debatable. Some say years, but I think it precipitates out. But like I said, most freon is long gone, only its constituent molecules remain.

The hole didn't appear before the early 1980s because they weren't looking for it. It may have been in existence in 1907.

Bogus.

O3(Ozone) is created by UV from the Sun, which then filters out the harmfull UV. If Chlorine was to blame, the Chlorine released from the Oceans would prevent it from ever forming the barrier.

The lack of Sunlight at the poles is responsible for the holes, and have been since the Earth has had it’s tilt.
