“General Motors is alive…and so is bin Laden!”
Flopping Aces ^ | 10-12-12 | Wordsmith

That might have been the campaign stump line according to Tom Mahnken had the Navy SEALs not shot first and asked questions later. After all, President Obama did have an alternate plan for bin Laden...one that involved executing his original plans for 9/11 mastermind, KSM: Showing the world and the terrorists what a great nation we are by putting Osama bin Laden on trial!

“Osama Bin Laden is dead; and General Motors is alive!” - Vice President Joe Biden

VP Joe "Malarkey" Biden in last night's VP debate, working in the "bin Laden is dead" campaign stump meme:

When it came to Osama bin Laden, the president the first day in office, I was sitting with him in the Oval Office, he called in the CIA and signed an order saying, “My highest priority is to get bin Laden.”

Prior to the election, prior to the -- him being sworn in, Governor Romney was asked the question about how he would proceed. He said, “I wouldn’t move heaven and earth to get bin Laden.” He didn’t understand it was more than about taking a murderer off the battlefield. It was about restoring America’s heart and letting terrorists around the world know, if you do harm to America, we will track you to the gates of hell if need be.

...and put them on trial to show the terrorists our values:

Mark Bowden (author of Black Hawk Down) has a new book out. (Vanity Fair offers an excerpt) In The Finish, it's shown that despite political rhetoric, the hunt for bin Laden had ever been a high priority for President Bush as well as for President Obama.

The difference, however, seems to be that for the former president, bringing bin Laden "to justice" was important as not only the al Qaeda leader responsible for financing the 9/11 attacks, but also as the symbolic figurehead of the global jihad movement that declared war on the U.S. President Bush understood that the war we find ourselves in involved more than simply one man and one organization- The Base. The current president seems to think that the war we are engaged in began and ends with Osama bin Laden; and that with his demise, so too ends the war.

Wishing it away and disengaging ourselves from two theaters isn't going to make "the war" with the global jihad movement simply "go away", no matter how much the Obama administration wishes to roll us back to a 9/10/01 law-enforcement model. [snarky] You know? The same failed (Clinton-era) policies that got us here in the first place? [/snarky]

A reworking of the "Hitler is alive and living in Argentina" myth for modern consumption: General Motors is alive, and living in China.

Yep. We "saved" them, so that, according to their own CEO, "China is GM's future." Since the bailout, almost ALL of GM's new production has gone to China or Mexico. They have announced plans to move engineering and design to China as well.

Well played, Barack. Well played.

I just beat you at post #2. Yep: We “saved” them so they could pay us back by moving out of the country.

All those muslims going over the fence in Egypt on September 11 were shouting “we’re all Bin Ladens now” - kind of like the sorcerer’s apprentice........

GM still owes us $20 to $30 billion. And will still be in bankruptcy in two years.

The CEO is still pushing to relocate more production to China. Just a few weeks ago.

Great success story.

How do you explain the fact that you never make a
comment but always post from a single source with
an excerpt, seemingly looking for hits?

It really looks like you are only here to promote a blog.

Have you any thoughts on that?

Actually, GM owes us MUCH more than $20-$30 billion, and the truth is we will NEVER know how much. In addition to the direct bailout, GM also received money through TARP, some of which was laundered through European banks into its Opal subsidiary. The amounts and disbursements foreign banks received in TARP funds are a secret the Fed has refused to reveal, even to Congress.

GM received additional TARP money via GMAC, and unlike most other TARP recipients, GMAC did not receive just one payment; they returned to the well THREE TIMES. And also, do not forget that although GM is now claiming to be "profitable" they are still not paying billions in corporate income tax.

All this, of course, so they can move more and more assets to China.

Ford is the only car I’ll buy!! If Ford had something for the Vette, I’d sell my Vette and buy it... (and I might buy the Shelby GT500!)

ford is also alive and didn’t take the money or close dealerships..

Ford had 4270 dealers in 2007 and 3131 at end of 2011.

If they didn't close, where did they go?

It needs to be often repeated that General Motors went bankrupt

They were also reorganized in a corrupt process that robbed resources from the bond holders, and gave them to the unions. It also screwed 20,000 Delphi salaried workers out of their pensions.
