No - the horse didn’t use a spoon. The guy was playing “catcher”, and the horse just did what came naturally. I imagine his last thoughts were “That sure was stupid” as he bled out from internal injuries in his buddy’s car on the way to the hospital. IIRC the “buddy” dumped him off on the sidewalk at the entrance so as not to be identified. (Was later caught - ran his farm as a bordello.)

Thing is, shoes can be pretty scarce in that place.

Don’t lose any sleep over thinking that way; if any body harmed my Dogs or livestock I would keep them alive for at least 10 days before I finally allowed them the release of death. There are a lot of creative things you can do with a pair of pliers, a 12 volt automotive battery and a pair of jumper cables. Even better than the battery is a 12 volt crank field phone.
