ANTI-CATHOLICS STAFF DNC PANEL
http://www.catholicleague.org/ ^ | September 4, 2012 | Bill Donohue

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on a Democratic National Convention (DNC) event hosted by Catholics for Choice (CFC):

If the Ku Klux Klan were hosting a panel discussion on racial relations at the Republican National Convention, the Republicans would rightly be condemned for doing so. But no price will be paid by the Democrats for allowing the most notoriously anti-Catholic organization in the nation, Catholics for Choice, to host a panel on religious liberty. “Keeping the Faith in the Democratic Party: Protecting Religious Liberty for Everyone” is scheduled to meet between 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. today.

Catholics for Choice (formerly Catholics for a Free Choice) is not simply a pro-abortion group: it is decisively anti-Catholic. Twice condemned by the bishops’ conference, its stated goal, according to its previous head, Frances Kissling, is to “overthrow” the Catholic Church. The current president, Jon O’Brien, has been equally vicious in his statements against Catholicism. He has been preoccupied this year opposing the religious liberty campaign organized by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Thus the perversity of having him command a panel discussion on religious liberty at the DNC.

In 1995, Marjorie Reiley Maguire, who for years worked closely with the leadership of CFC, branded it “an anti-woman organization” staffed by people who never go to Mass. Lavishly funded by the likes of the Ford Foundation, it would collapse if it had to rely on Catholic contributions—or even non-Catholic individuals—for support.

Speaking at today’s event will be activists from a CFC-organized umbrella group, the Coalition for Liberty & Justice. Several of the groups that comprise this entity have hijacked the Catholic label in service of their anti-Catholic agenda. They include: CORPUS, DignityUSA, New Ways Ministry and the Women’s Ordination Conference. An array of radical left-wing groups with a history of Catholic bashing will also be on hand.

In other words, the DNC’s idea of religious liberty means welcoming anti-Catholic bigots to deliver their message of hate.

Surprise, surprise. Obummer wants everyone to think that all Catholics are a pro-abortion, homo-friendly types, and all they all support him. The reason for this "forum", and the "Catholic" speakers that will surely speak at the Communist National Convention. Ground control to Karl Marx Jr, the American people are not that stupid.

I’ll bet Cardinal Dolan plans the same speech for the DNC that he gave to the RNC, AND....

They’ll cancel him as a result of his refusal to allow editing.

It has lobbied nationally and internationally for pro-choice goals and led an unsuccessful effort to downgrade the Holy See’s status in the United Nations. CFC was led for 25 years by Frances Kissling and is currently led by its president, Jon O’Brien.

Jon O’Brien is president of Catholics for Choice (CFC), the leading prochoice organization advocating for sexual and reproductive rights from a standpoint of culture, faith, justice and morality. Mr. O’Brien presents a visionary approach to reproductive health policy, focused on advancing reproductive health access for all women and increasing public support for abortion and contraception.

A life-long Catholic born and raised in the Republic of Ireland, Mr. O’Brien’s involvement in reproductive rights was sparked by his reaction to the great injustices that women especially face as a result of the Catholic hierarchy’s influence over public policy in the country. Before joining CFC in 1996, he worked on the front lines of reproductive health provision at the Irish Family Planning Association and as program manager at the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s European Bureau in London, where he oversaw the establishment of family planning clinics in Eastern Europe.

Well of course. The KKK were Democrats: why let them into the RNC convention?

FRANCES KISSLING

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/02/27/us/27choice_lg.jpg

President of Catholics For a Free Choice from 1982 to 2007
Former nun who is now an abortion-rights activist
Co-founded the National Abortion Federation
“The Catholic religion makes the fetus into an icon, a figure of religious veneration, which I think is sick, really sick.”

Born in 1943 and raised in a Polish working-class family in New York City, Frances Kissling attended Catholic school and, at age 19, joined a convent. She left after six months, however, due to disagreements she had with the Church’s prohibitions against divorce and birth control. Kissling then enrolled at the Manhattan-based New School, known for its progressive political orientation.

In the late 1960s, Kissling became an activist in the burgeoning women’s movement. Between 1970 and 1973, she directed two abortion clinics in New York State—the Pelham Medical Group (which performed some 250 abortions per week) and the Eastern Women’s Center (located in Manhattan).

Through a referral from Planned Parenthood, Kissling in 1973 received funding to promote access to abortion services for women overseas. Toward that end, she established and operated illegal abortion clinics in Mexico and Italy, majority-Catholic countries where abortion was still outlawed. Kissling also started the first legal abortion clinic in Austria.

In 1977 Kissling became the founding president of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), a position she would hold for three years. In 1982 she succeeded Patricia McMahon as president of Catholics For a Free Choice (now known as Catholics For Choice, or CFC), on whose board she had already served since 1978. At CFC, Kissling encouraged Catholic women to embrace abortion as a viable solution to the problem of unwanted pregnancies, and taught that Catholicism and abortion were not mutually exclusive.

Under Kissling’s leadership in 1984, CFC published a controversial full-page New York Times ad, avowing that “a diversity of opinions regarding abortion exists among committed Catholics.” “The ad had enormous impact,” said Kissling, in helping “the American people, particularly political leaders, to understand that the bishops did not speak for Catholics, and that Catholics could and did support the right to choose.” “I know with every ounce of my being,” Kissling said on a later occasion, “that you don’t have to agree with the positions of the Church on issues of abortion and contraception to be Catholic.”

According to Kissling, “The Catholic religion makes the fetus into an icon, a figure of religious veneration, which I think is sick, really sick.”

Cognizant of the wide gulf between these positions and traditional Catholic teaching, Kissling said in 2002: “I spent 20 years looking for a government to overthrow without being thrown in jail. I finally found one in the Catholic Church.” That same year, Kissling launched a worldwide billboard campaign charging that the Catholic Church, because of its opposition to contraception, was partially to blame for Africa’s AIDS epidemic.

In 2007–08, Kissling was a fellow in the Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program. During her residency there, she wrote the book, How to Think about Abortion: Pro-choice Reflections on Rights and Responsibility.

Resolutely committed to lobbying for laws that would permit public funding for abortion, Kissling, at an October 2010 Princeton University conference on abortion, said: “I don’t care how you accomplish it [the right to abortion], whether through a constitution, the UN, state laws or federal laws, or by the Taliban.”

They’ll cancel [Dolan] as a result of his refusal to allow editing.

And if Dolan doesn't offer the same prayer, Catholics should question why.
