Time to move on from Todd Akin

Posted on 08/21/2012 3:22:32 PM PDT by Truthsearcher

Well, Mr. Akin has made it clear he won't drop out, and now it's time for all of us who have called him to step down change tactics.

If you're in Missouri, then unfortunately you have the unenviable task of trying to drag his carcase across the finish line in November. But you still have to do it. 3rd party candidate is not going to do anything other than help the Dems, so don't go that route.

If you're not in Missouri, then stop talking about him. Anybody else bring him and his comments up, just deflect it by saying he's irrelevant to you.

Now is the time to minimize the damage he's done and that can only happen if we just ignore him. Any talk about him either attacking him or defending him will only keep this story around longer.

Agreed. The incident is over...let it go. This will be water under the bridge in three weeks.

I agree.

I’d email my sister in Missouri and encourage her to vote for him, but she’s politically ignorant and probably a dem to boot. Best if she just stays home.

Akin stood up to “Saint Danforth”, John Ashcroft, Christopher Bond, Jim Talent, Scott Brown, and John Cornyn. Quite an impressive feat. He should start campaigning tomorrow on the offensive and forget the Tampa distraction. He can use the “beholden to no one but you” line, and the MO folk may or may not buy it.

YES, everyone please move on. I can’t believe we’ve wasted 3 days talking about “legitimate” rape. The democrats WANT us to keep talking about Akin. The convention starts next week. We need to focus people. FOCUS.

MO has a “boot”; does she live there. It used to be very Democrat but may now be competitive.

Won't work.

The popular TEA Party favorite came in third in the primary against Akin, and with Palin backing her. All a third party would do is insure Akin loses. He has time yet to see if he can recover for the cost of reprinting the ballots. If he does have to bow out, the Dims have a month less to trash the replacement picked by the GOP-E.

Say hello to Christine O’Donnell for us when you see her next.

Well done, Missouri. Harry Reid thanks you.

I am of a similar mind. Hopefully though someone is prepping our candidates to pivot from this whole debacle, because you know the presstitutes and Obama are not going to let this bone go easily.

A recipe for a McCaskill win. She really is a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance...he still has an outside chance. 11 weeks is an eternity.

Let’s not assign heroic altruistic motives to this juvenile. If he was altruistic he would have withdrawn for another pro life conservative who had not shot himself in the head. The only 2 folks that think he should be in the race at this point are Akin and McCaskill.Having said that I would hold my nose and vote for him if I lived in Missouri but I would not want the RNC and Republican PACs wasting money on this loser. It best be rerouted to other marginal contests that are winnable to try to compensate for the loss of a sure thing in Missouri.

Let’s say Akin is down 10 points to McCaskill a week from now, would you reconsider then?

Not gonna happen - Akin won't let it. He is on a mission and thinks he can save the country. He will be running televison Ads, appearing on news and talk shows and generally using the megaphone that the left and the MSM will give him. The Dems will gleefully bring him and his statements up constantly through the election, etc. If he does enough damage, maybe the DNC will send him a thank you card.

He spoke incautiously, and then he got absolutely ripped for it by practically everybody. But I gather that he is a good, sound conservative. And even though his wording gave the liberal press an opportunity to jump in and bash him, he was basically right in principle. Rape should not be an excuse for abortion, especially taxpayer funded abortion.

We should not be encouraging the victims of rape to abort their babies. Rape is a terrible experience, but so is abortion. Being persuaded to abort her child, even though unwanted, will only make the mother feel even worse. More importantly, it’s not the baby’s fault that he is the product of a rape. If his mother doesn’t want to keep her child, and that is certainly understandable, then it can be adopted out to someone else.

Obama has said things a thousand times worse than this, and has repeatedly gotten a free pass from the press. But if a conservative pro-lifer says it, the leftist media blast it all over the place. And then all the so-called conservatives hop on board the left-wing propaganda train, for fear of damage. What could be more damaging than to jump on board a Communist propaganda train because you’re afraid of what it might do? How about saying, instead, that these presstitutes are baby killers, and that although Akin may have used some unfortunate wording, he was ultimately right. Abortion is evil, even in the case of rape.
