Voter identification has become a red-hot issue in this presidential election cycle. One side says it’s reasonable to expect someone to identify themselves before exercising their right to vote to insure there is no fraud. And the other side suggests that by forcing someone to obtain picture identification places an undue hurdle in their ability to exercise a right.
On HuffPost Live on Tuesday, the Huffington Post’s new online streaming video section, HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher lashed out against proponents of voter identification and likened such laws to requiring aptitude tests of “tea baggers” wishing to vote.
“The voter registration laws that they’re trying to pass — they’re basically suppressing the vote,” Maher said. “Voter ID — you need a picture ID now to vote, you know. We’re going to propose, ‘Yeah, we’ll give you that, but then we get to give the tea baggers a literacy test.’ If you’re going to make poor black people jump through a hoop to vote, then we’re going to make tea baggers answer the question: Is Africa a country or a continent? Name a country that speaks French. You know, things like that.”
His argument is that though it sounds reasonable, it’s not really an issue and is potentially motivated by Republicans wishing to suppress the black vote.
“So it’s crazy — but obviously Republicans, because they love the country and because the Constitution, they ask themselves what is that thing that maybe black people can’t get to? What do we have that they don’t have? Well, they take the bus because they’re poor. So they don’t have a car.

FIRST OF ALL, it is the conservatives fault for feeling they must respond to any loudmouth, racially divisive accusation with a great sound-byte that for us is a no-win scenario. Just stepping into the arena with the likes of Mahr,one of the worst, least logical left-wing, inflammatory weasels there is.
Stupid, idiotic, moronic questions posed as fake issues that are specifically designed to inflame, divide, self-destruct with the worst emotional, racial consequence possible no matter how right we are, no matter what we say, how we say it.
Believe me, Bill Mahr weighed this particular question he asked in order to wreak the most havoc. have us answer in a way that comes across as bigoted, racist, illegal, morally repugnant as possible.
It's like the IQ tests , who some black racists said were engineered for low black IQ scores due to questions posed that were white-centric that would by default haave black scores lower by 30 points merely because of what was asked.
The same thing occurs when conservatives respond to preconceived anti-conservative questions phrased in a way that is designed to bring out the very worst of the human condition.
The problem we conservatives get caught up in the likes of Bill Mahr, arguably, the worst, dumbest of the liberals , yet gets heard because he has a penchant for phrasing the most racially,politically incendiary questions that gets the most mileage out of making right-wing, conservative issues look like they are canon of the Nazi Party.
The liberals have perfected the approach of making conservative viewpoints look as bad as possible. While we are not going to be as successful in making the liberal viewpoint resonate with the same barfy revulsion liberals have been doing to us, there are a few thing we can do to ameliorate the liberal game plan and score some points for us.
Mahr is by far the stupidest, most moronic of the liberal mouthpieces, listen to hi comments and you'll notice how indeed stupid, senseless they are but he does have a gift for taking conservative issues and making them sound reprehensible.
Any conservative would not be too hard pressed to come up with a left-wing,liberal scenario even half as repugnant and the conservatives have already scored points.
Second of all, ignoring MAHR is to do so at your risk and not taking his bait only serves to validate what he believes in. Anyway he can always find some fraudulently conservative figure to prove his very point. THIRD OF ALL, those appearing on his show, should do as much research as possible in order to deflect in whatever smallest infinitesimal way the liberal approach to castrating conservatives politically and score some points however way you can for the Gipper.

Let’s see, the Dems can use mass transportation to get the “poor” to the polls, so why can’t they use mass transportation to drive these same people to the ID place to get their IDs? If they really wanted IDs, they could get them. Why is it only Democratic voters can’t get IDs? And why is it only Dems are poor?
Hey Bill, forgetting everything a person needs a picture ID for, a person can take the bus down to the DMV and get a FREE picture ID that is NOT a drivers license. In many states Bill, even if you can't take the bus, the DMV will come to your home and GIVE you a FREE picture ID.
Bill, may I make a recommendation that might improve your ratings? Take your lips off of 0bama's ass for a few hours a day.

Tea Party people are, by definition, invested in the political process. Every “OMG immigrants have to take this test, bet citizens couldn’t pass it” test I’ve ever taken has been as easy as breathing, because I care about this country and take my responsibilities seriously. Maher really wouldn’t like the results if his idea came to pass.
So I guess there are no poor white people that take the bus? Not only is Maher and his ilk not part of the solution, he IS the problem.

My brother in law is african american and he’s pretty insulted. He can’t stand it when the libs portray anyone in the black community as being unable to ‘get it together’ enough to get a simple i.d. jeeeesh.
The basic misunderstanding here is that there is a lack of photo ID. There isn’t. The fear lies in identifying felons and multiple voters via that photo ID. Can’t have that, oh no, it would be disenfranchising. Hence the smokescreen.
I work with a lot of Obama voters. They must have some kind of ID because a lot of them drive and they are very able to buy booze and smokes.
I have to show a photo ID, and have had my photo taken at doctor’s offices, before appointments. I’ve also had to show a photo ID prior to having any type of medical procedure, ie., colonoscopy, gastroscopy, MRI, etc. Even though I have a checking account with my bank, if I do any over-the-counter transactions, I have to show a photo ID.
Last month I had to have a medical procedure done & I had left my driver’s license in the car. Even though they had a copy of my insurance card I still had to go out & get my ID.
I just don’t see how in this day & age you can get by w/ out an ID. It would seem the only way to do that is if you have a personal assistant who does EVERYTHING for you & you never leave the house.
Or how about this. Last election both black & white churches had mass get out the vote buses that carried people to the polls. Have a, “We will pick you up to get an ID day,”( & if you can’t afford it we will cover it.)

Total, absolute Bravo Sierra. Our DMV issues photo ID cards to anyone willing to provide a valid address and proof of identity for free or nominal fee.

Hey folks, Mexican Consular Identification Cards meet the definition of Photo ID. And the Parolee Identification Cards that many convicted felons are required to carry meet the Photo ID definition.
And if any poll watcher doesn’t allow such folks to vote they are marking themselves as a bigot.

In order to acquire money legally, be in through a job, state or federal benefits, or anything, one MUST have a valid photo ID.
The only way you get money without a picture ID is through non-legal/criminal avenues.
Is Maher saying that all Black people are getting money illegally? That’s pretty bad...

Per the instructions, one of these documents is necessary:
CA ID card
CA drivers licence
passport
birth certificate
The birth certificate is the key to getting the other three documents.
If somebody is old enough to have no living older relatives that can vouch for their age
and
was born at home
Then they will not have even a birth certificate- at most they will have a baptism certificate.
There was a time when that was sufficient to prove age, and the person could open bank accounts and get driving licences et cetera.
I know from experience, my mother in law was bornthe on 1916 and pre-dated these new requirements and due to ill health and reclusiveness didn’t keep up with the changes.
We had no end of trouble when she had go move across country and establish bank accounts and rent an apartment.
All she ever had was the baptism certificate.

Why is he aiming this at the blacks.The Mexicans are larger than them.It’s easy to get a voter ID.All they have to do is ask for one..I think Maher should give another Mil to his president and help these people out.I spoke with a few blacks on Monday and today.They feel Obama let them down.50 percent will vote for him again and a few are staying home.
Under future TSA regulations they’ll need photo ID to take the bus.
