The first reports said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Egypt to convince the powerful military to hand the reins of power to "civilians," apparently meaning the Muslim Brotherhood. Before she could make her case, Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi announced the army would prevent Egypt from falling under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood (which he did not name but referred to as a "certain group)." Hillary, disadvantaged by the weight of her pantsuit, but still resilient in that uniquely American way, quickly tread the murky waters of politicking and offered bribes. Some influential Christian leaders boycotted her invitation to attend the meetings, or some meetings, and the day didn't get better as protesters lined the motorcade route, shouting "Monica, Monica, Monica," throwing tomatoes and shoes, none of which hit Hillary's vehicle (of course they didn't).

Clinton's van was around the corner from the protesters, and a senior State Department official said her car was not hit.

The chants of "Monica" refer to Monica Lewinsky, the White House intern who had an affair with Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton.  Source: CNN.

CAIRO - Several prominent Egyptian Christians boycotted a meeting on Sunday with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, objecting to what they said was interference by the United States in Egypt's politics in order to aid an Islamist rise to power.

Clergy and others who did attend complained to Clinton that the United States seemed to be siding with Egypt's newly elected president, Mohammed Morsi, a former leader in the Muslim Brotherhood, in his power struggle with the military.

Field Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi:
CAIRO — Egypt’s top military official stepped up his feud with the Muslim Brotherhood on Sunday, saying the army would prevent Egypt from falling to a “certain group,” according to the state news agency.

The remarks by the official, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, did not mention the Brotherhood by name but were widely seen as a reference to the group and to Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s newly elected president and a former Brotherhood leader. And they came just hours after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton met with the field marshal in Cairo in an effort to prod Egypt’s military to hand its power to civilians.

Hillary Offers Bribes:

Constrained by an almost complete mistrust of the United States’ motives, Mrs. Clinton was forced to avoid strong calls for a quick end to military rule, favoring language instead that called for Egyptian solutions along with respect for minority rights.

And with little leverage except a promise of economic assistance, she struggled to coax the military and Mr. Morsi to resolve their rift.

Obama says 'democracy is messy.' Arab Springs are certainly messy - like with blood in the streets, virginity checks and American pastors kidnapped. There is nothing fresh or springlike about any of the Arab "revolutions," although I do believe hundreds of thousands of young freedom fighters think they might win freedom. They're young. They will not win. The same oppression that has been going on from the beginning of time, is in full swing today in Egypt. Best advice to the country's Coptic Christians - get the heck out of there. Young Freedom Fighters, can you make it to Sweden?

“Young Freedom Fighters, can you make it to Sweden? “

But, I thought that Sweden was already basically taken over by Muslim authoritarians?

Hillary, disadvantaged by the weight of her pantsuit

I"m amazed that she was able to meet with Morsi without first donning a hijab. Come to think about it, after seeing the pictures, a burka would have been very appropriate.
