Does anyone give a damn? Our 4th of July Message & Help America Challenge

As we head into the celebration of the birth of our nation, America is in trouble.

Americans celebrate the birth of our nation as July 4, 1776 but that was only when the Declaration of Independence was signed. However the war went on for many more years and America really gained Independence in 1783. The Bill of Rights, which has been under attack by our own ’leaders,’ came along several years later.

Once, we were the most prosperous nation on earth, enjoyed the most freedom, boasted the largest middle class of any nation and had the least government interference in our daily lives. No longer.

Once, we were an independent, self reliant nation. Now 54% of us are dependent on government checks to get by. This nation managed to be prosperous without an income tax for its first 126 years. Today, Americans are nickel and dimed by so many taxes, it’s a challenge to keep up.

Sadly, the United States now has a higher percentage of workers doing low wage work than any other major industrialized nation does.

Today, the United States is overrun with laws, rules and regulation which dominate every aspect of our daily lives. Is this freedom? We imprison more people than any other country. Bureaucracies at every level of government strangle business and job growth.

For the past three decades or more, politicians from both sides of the fence have become shallow, bickering idiots whose freedom stifling policies have bankrupted this nation both financially and morally. Starting with the so-called Patriot Act, they have also decimated our rights and freedom.

It’s ironic, but our founding fathers served their country without paychecks and lavish benefits. This is no longer the case. We have lifelong politicians feeding at the public trough and from the hands of special interests. No one has been able to explain to me why young men and women serve in the U.S. Military for 20 years, risking their lives protecting freedom, and only get 50% of their pay on retirement. While Politicians hold their political positions in the safe confines of the capital protected by these same men and women, and receive full-pay retirement after serving one term. It just does not make any sense.

Our Founding Father’s provided us with the gift of freedom. What are you doing to help preserve that gift? Does anyone give a damn?

While celebrating the 4th of July with a BBQ and a beer, ask yourself…what have you done to help fix the problems which are destroying our country or are you just an accidental American, here by a quirk of fate?

Do you have ideas on how to fix America? Send them to me or post your comment here. Your suggestions might be included in a new book What Average Americans would do to Save America: Voices from the Heartland.

Welcome to FR

I like this idea. Too many people are hung up on whipping boys while doing nothing to make things better.
