Bob Owens is raising the possibility:
"I had never heard of lean before yesterday, but apparently it is a concoction made from certain prescription cough syrups and a beverage medium, often made more palatable with candy.
One of the recipes for lean calls for using Arizona Iced Tea Co. watermelon fruit juice cocktail as the beverage of choice, and Skittles candy the items found on Trayvon Martins body the night he was shot by George Zimmerman.
The Conservative Treehouse has a lengthy post about the recreational drug, its effects and side effects, and alleged screen captures of Trayvon Martins social media sites discussing his fondness for the concoction."
If the story is correct it seems Trayvons medical records and the medical examiners review of his body will be revisited, to see if he used the drug frequently and in a concentrated enough form to explain his apparent confusion at the convenience store that night, the odd behavior that spurred George Zimmerman to call Sanford police, and the aggression he displayed when he fought with Zimmerman.
I read this to my wife and youngest son and their reaction was that this is a stretch. And perhap it is. Especially if youd never heard of Lean and if you dont read the details of the post put up at The Conservative Treehouse.
If those details are true however, and frankly, theyre pretty convincing, then theres yet more evidence that Zimmerman needs to be exonerated.
Read the details yourself and tell us in the comments if you think its a stretch.
Frankly, after doing so, I can only conclude its a stretch to think it a stretch.
The can of tea he bought at the store appears to have been unopened, as best as we can tell.
Also known as ‘drank’ and ‘sizzurp’.
Unless the medical examiner’s report confirms this: A dangerous speculation.
The fact that a 17 year old with a proven history of drug use was out at 2:30 AM though—supposedly to get skittles.... definitely does, however, give one pause.
Click through to the original article.
(A) It was watermelon juice, not tea, (B) It could’ve been his second or third batch, (C) Some have speculated that he bought a “blunt” from some individuals in the 7-11 parking lot.
Watermelon juice?! Must...pull...fingers from...keyboard.
Trayvon was shot at about 7:25pm.
The one he just bought was "unopened". That does not rule out him having such a coctail earlier in the night.
After reading the article and Martin’s online postings, doesn’t seem like a huge stretch to me.
Wouldn’t the autopsy show if he’d recently consumed “lean”, or whatever you want to call it?
...so now we know he was a drugged-up thug wannabe.....who died just like a drugged-up thug.
Watch me shed tears. Pop some corn and take bets.
No, no, NO!
You're obviously missing the point!
Zimmerman won't be prosecuted for shooting Trayvon; he's being prosecuted for 400 years of oppression and slavery. It's collective guilt, original sin, if you will that he's guilty of.
While it's true that he's more black than Elizabeth Warren is Indian, his is simply a convenient narrative so, too bad for him.
I don’t see the media, White House, nutroots, racialists, prosecuters, Hollywood, academia, music industry, Democrats and others worrying about “dangerous speculation” when it comes to Mr. Zimmerman and making mountains out of every one of his molehills, have you? Is Trayvon Martin already such an icon that we can’t speculate as to what he was up to the night he was killed?
That is not how you make it...

When discussing with my family, Hmama was the only one who had NOT heard of kids drinking mixed concoctions using cough syrup, candies and sweet drinks.
Of course!
Know ye not, thou infidel, that the character of martyrs and demi-gods is unimpeachable?
What the heck?
do they get a sugar buzz out of it?
Give my 3 year old granddaughter a sugary concoction like that and she’s gonna face-climb El Cabinet and crawl across the ceiling like Spiderman.
Nothing rules out what he drank before, but I think that some people think that he was drinking it after he left the store, which probably isn’t the case, unless that can was empty when he put it in his pocket.
It’s a scrip cough medicine. It contains codeine.
Interesting that the guy recommends Jolly Ranchers in it. May be a variation involving Skittles out there...
That would be construed by media as racist evidence. How dare they.....even if it's true.
Urbandictionary.com describes it (definition made in 2007)

Ping
How can anyone listen to that junk? Awful.
I never should have clicked that link.
My brain is bleeding.
From another article:
“The substance of research was prodded by with this graphic of unknown attribution, dealing with the possibility that Trayvon Martin was not only an illegal drug-user, but possibly a drug-dealer.”
Only if a full drug screen was ordered. As of the moment, all I’ve seen is the THC screen.
I don’t know. I’ll give you a good music link after that rubbish:

I gave a strong warning. Ping to #30 for something far better.
We can speculate our little hearts out, but the court’s not going to care. The only two issues are did Trayvon attack George (not why), and was George in fear of his life? I haven’t seen any evidence yet that would contradict Zimmerman on either element. All the rest of it’s of passing interest to the public, but the jury will never hear it.
Yep. What a disgusting subculture. And the black community is gonna have to clean it up. Nothing to do with me. Period!
I won’t be holding my breath on them.
Eh, I’m skeptical. If Martin had imbibed of the “real” version, the hydrocone in most prescription cough syrups would very likely have shown up in the coroner’s tox screen along with the marijuana they did find.
“Fake” Lean made with OTC cough syrup might be another matter, of course. Dextromethorphan (sp?) will show up on a drug screen, but I have no idea if that’s part of the routine screening process or not. All I *can* say for sure is that an overload of Dextro in your system is NO fun.
I had the creeping crud finals week my junior year in college. I kept pushing myself and accidentally overdid it with the cold medicine. Man...what a night. Jitters, vertigo/disorientation, and even some mild hallucinations (every time I layed down and tried to sleep, it felt like ants or something crawling on my skin). Boy howdee, I never made that mistake again!
well, well, well...
I read a page or 2 of that article a couple of days ago. I couldn’t make it through the whole thing. The part I read was actually interesting. No idea if factual but I do remember drug companies having to pull some Robitussun like products because people, mainly kids, were using them with other stuff to get high.
So who knows? maybe there’s something to it. Maybe the kid was flyin on friggin Skittles. Don’t matter if he was only on a sugar high, he f’d up and got killed for it.
That’s probably the same thing your parents said about The Archies.
From his tweets, Martin was trying to find a source for codiene. Did he or didn’t he? It might explain the way he seemed lost and disoriented in the 7 eleven.
The cough syrup gives them the high. Prescription problems in the Sanford CVS. They got caught selling enormous amounts of Oxycontin but they also may have been selling cough syrup. Any local know the details?
It would be good if more people read that article before drawing conclusions and commenting. The autopsy showed liver damage which is consistent with use of lean and similar drugs. Trayvon wasn’t diabetic and apparently didn’t have any medical condition that might have caused that liver damage.
The media portrayed Trayvon as a poor kid going out to get himself some iced tea and skittles for his little brother. In fact, he went out to buy the watermelon drink and skittles - both ingredients of lean. He might have been planning on mixing up another batch of the stuff.
If so, he’d be mixing it with marijuana since the autopsy also showed evidence of its use within a few hours of his encounter as well as longer term use.
Actually, I know the VERY rich mother of a white kid who drinks this s**t, it is most definitely not limited to the black community Parents need to pay attention to what their little terrorists are up to!!!
“Drank” is what L’il Wayne was hooked on. And I was told he is STILL hooked on it.
A lot of rappers and would-be rappers are drinking it.
It took him FORTY minutes to walk HALF OF ONE MILE —verrrry slow.
High on Drank?
People ought to view the 7-11 vid cuz the 3 guys in there whom he apparently knew were scum-bags of the very first order.
Who walks around inside an urban convenience store at night with the hoodie on one’s head with the drawcords pulled to 90% shut, peering through an hood opening the size of a glass coaster...?
A freaking criminal.

Update #26 Part 2 Trayvon Martin Shooting A year of drug use culminates in predictable violence

Well, he left the store with the can in the bag. At the scene, the can was in his front hoodie pocket. He took it out of the bag to have his hands free to beat up GZ.
Then there are the possible missing blunts...
http://www.nytimes.com/1987/10/02/sports/triple-steal-for-braves.html
Sorry, posted the wrong link earlier. Here’s the correct one about the possible missing blunts:
Long ago in Vietnam many of my troops were dipping tootsie pop suckers into bottles of codine cough syrup. Called a cold pack from sick call. This “Lean” sounds like a variant of that fuzzy brain game.
Sad...
Trayvon or Snow White, the laws should be the same for all. That is what the 'left' keeps saying they want, right?
