Voters don't want to be wowed in 2012; they want to be reassured that the next president will roll up his sleeves and get dirty restoring prosperity and cutting Uncle Sam's enormous credit card debt. Joel Osteen is plenty of inspiration on Sunday mornings.
The 65-year-old Romney has said on occasion that he wants a veep who can take over the presidency if -- God forbid -- something happens to him. This can be construed as boilerplate, the thing a presidential candidate says about a vice presidential pick (even about plagiarist and funnyman Joe Biden).
But Romney's a business exec, a button-down guy who has a responsibility to shareholders and investors, so to speak. Chances are, Romney means to have someone as veep along the lines of Dick Cheney, who can provide experienced backup and a seamless transition to the presidency, if the need arises.
That doesn't strike Marco Rubio or Paul Ryan from Romney's veep list. Both men are intelligent, capable, and politically astute. Rubio has an obvious appeal to Hispanics and would likely sew up Florida for Romney. Ryan, an upper-Midwesterner, could help move Wisconsin (his home state), neighboring Minnesota, Michigan, and Iowa into the Romney column. Both Rubio and Ryan are button-down sorts, which should appeal to Romney.
But Rubio and Ryan are young and short on the sort of the executive experience that Romney may be seeking in a vice president. The nation is facing serious challenges. Seasoning and a strong track record heading enterprises of one type or another may be the ticket to run with Romney.

I’d lean towards a governor or a former military person, although Rubio and Ryan are both appealing. Marco Rubio hasn’t yet completed a full term in the Senate..and he is a most welcome addition and breath of fresh air to that body. Same for Allen West.
Executives in corporations are used to doing succession planning. And you can bet that whoever it is, that person will be THE most thoroughly vetted candidate out there.
Allen West has obvious appeal for me but so does Bobby Jindahl. Others not mentioned are Daniel Petraeus and of course, Sarah Palin (although I don’t think he’ll pick her, he may offer her a Cabinet spot). Other than that, I cannot read tea leaves..

Romney was weak in the South and Gov Haley can help him there and Palin...well, she is choice Tea Party bait.

He’s not going to pick anyone controversial. He’ll choose someone as boring and flipfloppy as he is. If John Kerry was a Rino he’d choose him.
I also hope Mr. Romney does not choose Rubio.... As much as I like Mr Rubio, unfortunately, as per article 2 of the US Constitution, he can not qualify as a Natural Born Citizen. Both parents, mother and father, were not citizens when he was born. If Romney selects him, this would give legitimacy to Obummer and reduce the core of his base

If Mitt had any sense, he’d choose Allen West.
No one got on the McCain wagon until he chose a real conservative as a VP candidate.
Plus, we could accuse those not supporting the Romney ticket of being racist, and deal with libtards on there own terms.

To actually win this election, Romney is going to have to not only motivate Conservatives, he's going to have to get them fired up.

It seems obvious to me: once more with Palin, but this time Palin unshackled.
They’re fishing around for a boring, safe “anti-Palin” who won’t threaten either Romney or the GOP-E.
He seems to be working for Mitt, harder than Mitt is.
I don't know about that. "Oh, I suppose so..." is the most enthusiasm Romney has ever inspired, and it worked for him for Gov, for several primaries, and even for getting married. [Does anyone really think Ann Romney was thrilled rather than just resigned to marrying someone who could provide for the many planned kids?] I plan on voting this November, no matter what, to help elect a conservative Congress, just as I hope no conservative will stay home in the most important election in American history. Once we're in the voting booth, I imagine a lot of people who are at best disappointed by Romney will consider the alternative and say, "Oh, I suppose so..."
Petraeus is most likely a Democrat.
I’m not terribly interested in who Romney picks. Romney is, as far as we know, in good health. My vote (or lack thereof) will be determined by the person who would be doing the job, not the understudy who goes to funerals.
