The moment when you realize there’s not much difference between Gawker and Drudge Report

The moment is 9 a.m. this morning when Drudge still has in the top left — the prime placement – a misleading link claiming armed neo-Nazis are patrolling Sanford, Florida, where Trayvon Martin was shot:

I informed Drudge (via email, its tip box, and Twitter) about 14 hours ago that the link was misleading, as Sanford police denied such armed patrols were taking place. The linked story claims “heavily armed” patrols of 10-20 people. Many readers also reached out to Drudge as well.

Some media outlets did update their stories after they became aware that Sanford police were denying such patrols were taking place.

After I reached out to the author, The NY Daily News put up a new story in place of the prior story (I wonder, shouldn’t they have left the original and noted a correction?), highlighting the police denial. Mediaite not only posted an update, it also ran a separate story about the police denial. The Blaze noted the denial in an update.

But as of this writing, although I emailed the author last night, Gawker has not updated its story. Just like Drudge.

If we are going to not believe the liberal media, we have to expect better from the conservative media.

Of course, I had already come to the conclusion that Drudge is Gawker lite.

Yeah. I also sent him a message pointing him to a thread here that disproved the story. But no luck.

Maybe he has me on ignore, since I also sent him a couple of posts on the bizarrely misleading posts about Mitt and Rick.

Too bad about that, because Drudge has usually been pretty reliable. But he really has gone off with his eagerness to support Romney and condemn his more conservative rivals.

I knew Drudge was gay, since he said as much during the Monicagate business, when clinton attacked him on it, and he replied, “Sure, so what?” But this is the first time I’ve seen it apparently interfering with his (mis)handling of the facts. I don’t care if someone is gay until he becomes a gay activist and tries to push it on everyone else.

Unless he’s become a secret Mormon or something, and that’s his motivation. Maybe Romney promised him his own planet.

I don't know if it's so much him being gay as it is just going for sensationalist headlines. He probably gets paid for the traffic he sends to other websites. He has posted a helluva lot of misleading headlines this election cycle though.

Drudge used to be the go-to site. But I’ve noticed of late that many breaking news stories that Drudge would have had first in the old days either appear there late or never at all. Then he went in the tank for Romney with a scorched earth campaign on Newt Gingrich early in the primary cycle and I decided then to deprive him of my visits.
