During the Today Show, NBC aired a segment about the 911 calls surrounding the Trayvon Martin case.
But the segment edited the call to make Zimmerman sound like he was engaged in racial profiling.
Now NBC is launching an investigation according to Erik Wemple of the Washington Post.
In the edited audio that went on the air, George Zimmerman sounds like he thinks Martin is up to no good because Martin is black.
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.
One thought seems to flow into the next. Martin looks like he is up to no good, presumably, because he is black.
But the actual transcript of the 911 call is this:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about. Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic? Zimmerman: He looks black.
So in the actual version, Zimmerman says he "looks black" when he is asked to describe Martin's race, not when he is trying to justify why he thinks Martin is "up to no good."
Now of course, Zimmerman may have all sorts of heinous attitudes about race. But NBC seemed to be stacking the deck with its viewers....

I can refer them to the pickup truck they exploded and passed off as occurring on its own spontaneously. And hundreds of other examples.

Because people may realize that trevon was not a little boy skipping home after buying some candy, but instead was 6'2, ~180+lbs, played football and was completely capable of assaulting zimmerman to the point that he may conclude he had to defend himself. We don't want those facts to get out.
Same reason zimmerman is a "white-hispanic", but our beloved president is not a "white-black".

Or it’s possible that he didn’t buy them.
I thought GE was in there somewhere.

I would like to know what they come up with and what they do about it.
I have heard or read the following:
It was discovered at school that Trevon was in possession of a flat blade screwdriver and women's jewelry in his backpack. He didn't get into trouble for it. He claimed it belonged to someone else. At the least it is likely that Martin was friendly with someone doing B&E and burglary. It is also possible he was doing this himself.
As Trevon was walking through the neighborhood he was near houses. Someone who has seen the neighborhood said that he may have simply been avoiding the rain by walking under awnings instead of the sidewalk.
But what if...
What if he did not go out for candy, but was intentionally roving the neighborhood. Zimmerman claimed he was not following Martin after leaving the car, but unintentionally came in contact with him as he tried to get a specific address for police. Zimmerman would not have looked like just another person walking around to Martin. And if Martin was casing houses and realized he was being observed it would be reasonable to expect that he may attack Zimmerman.
How tough can it be? Who did the editing and did they do it upon any superiors’ request?
