Santorum: "I Was Basically Pro-Choice All My Life, Until I Ran for Congress" (1995)
Philadelphia Magazine ^ | December 1995 | Eric Konigsberg

Posted on 03/17/2012 11:01:02 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

IN THE SUMMER OF 1989, Rick Santorum and a fellow associate at the Pittsburgh law firm of Kirkpatrick and Lockhart left work to drive to Three Rivers Stadium for the firm's annual softball game. Sitting behind the wheel, Santorum popped in a tape, and on came the reedy voice of a man lecturing as if to a classroom.

“Listen,” Santorum said. “Newt Gingrich.”

“Who the hell is Newt Gingrich?” the co-worker asked.

Santorum explained that Gingrich was a congressman from Georgia, and that he was the guy to listen to if you were considering a future in politics. “At the time,” says the co-worker, “I had no idea that was something Rick was interested in.” As it turned out, Santorum was already telling people he was running for Congress in the upcoming election. The tape was something he had ordered from GOPAC, Gingrich's political action committee, full of do-it-yourself campaign tips for aspiring candidates.

In recent years, of course, Gingrich's tutelage of Santorum has taken on a much more direct nature. Last September, Santorum, at 37 a Republican U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, managed the Senate floor debate as it passed its welfare bill, all the while working closely with Gingrich, now speaker of the House of Representatives and the country's most powerful Republican. Santorum, who prior to his election to the Senate last year served two terms in the House with Gingrich, is in fact known on Capitol Hill as Gingrich's protégé and his point man in the Senate. The two meet weekly for early-morning swims at the House gym.

Much of Santorum's record, thus far, has been a series of tantrums. More than a dozen times in his first few months in the Senate, Santorum took to the floor to trash Bill Clinton for not drafting a balanced-budget proposal...

It's called a second-hand source. From a guy with two reasons to dislike Rick Santorum - Santorum being an effective pro-lifer and Santorum taking Karen away from him. Yet you are willing to give it veracity?

2005, BTW, was when the liberal attack machine was gearing up against Santorum.

Think we’ll have one on Santorum’s history on jobs, taxes, government spending, spending cuts and judges, any time soon?

That’s essentially the problem with legislators as Presidential candidates. If you are in Congress long enough, you have essentially voted on BOTH sides of every issue. You’ve voted to increase taxes, and to decrease taxes. You’ve voted to increase government spending on Monday, then you voted to decrease government spending on Tuesday.

There’s a reason why Republican presidential winners tend to be Governors. Executive experience trumps mushy legislators. That’s why Romney, despite his middling record, is still in this race.

Oh, and BTW, the Philly City Paper is a vile hard-left free rag. You should see the kind of stuff they routinely print about Republicans. But, given your long history of attacks on Republicans, you’d probably like them.

Those are FACTS. Deal with them, instead of reacting like an angry cat.

That illustrates my biggest point all along, the EPIC hypocrisy of the Santorum worshipers, condemning Newt for every aspect of his past, without forgiveness, giving Santorum total sainthood and refusing to even consider that Santorum is capable of sin.

And when we point out Santorum’s past and discrepancies, we are duly attacked, condemned and ridiculed by Santorum’s cult following.

That pretty much sums it up.........

Karen Santorum isn't running for office.

And you've already shown what you are about - you're OK with the big lie headline as long as it furthers your agenda of trashing the GOP.

The issue I raised was that there was no source for the headline quote. You, alone among those trumpeting it on this thread, have admitted it is not sourced. But to your own shame, you admit you don't care.

The headline is not sourced. That is a fact.

You are citing left-wing slimeball sources. That is a fact.

And you apparently don't care about either. That is clear.

“Was Santorum’s wife living with the Abortionist doctor who delivered her?

YES or NO.”

Yes. Karen Garver lived through most of her 20ies in a relationship with Tom Allen, a Pittsburgh obstetrician and abortion provider 40 years older than she. Karen’s father was a pediatrician and many of his patients were referred to him by Allen. Karen Garver left Tom Allen in 1989, after meeting Rick Santorum.

So tell us - after you have regurgitated a left-wing line of attack on Rick Santorum - what does that prove?

Nothing of importance. All you are doing is throwing mud at Santorum's wife, who now indulges in such conservative activities as raising a family and home-schooling them.

One can easily make a positive case that Newt would be a better leader than Santorum, given Newt's leadership role in the 1990s. I belive that myself and plan on voting for Newt.

Instead, you are rolling like a dog on a fresh turd on these liberal hatchet jobs. If someone posted someting from a similar source about Newt, you'd be yelling to high heaven, and for good reason. But since it's against the other guy, you are pushing it yourself.

Here are two sources among several.....Is it a liberal source? Yes it is. Did you expect the Santorum campaign to go out of their way to look into Santorum’s past? NO!

Does the source make it a lie? Not really! Because they are open to slander among several issues. But the truth is where you find it, once you take the time to look. And in comparison, lots and lots of anti Gingrich articles have been posted here from similar sources.

Oh, spare me. The MSM lies about conservatives with impunity, and you know better.

Make the case why Newt is better than Santorum. I belive that myself.

However, the 2005 attacks against Santorum were part of an orchestrated Dem attack on him to peel away his support by pro-life Dems, since that was vital to Santorum's forumla for winning statewide in PA. I know, I live here. I know the trash sources being cited. You should read City Paper some time - they basically paint Republicans as demons and are pro-gay, pro-abort, anti-gun and pro-welfare. Is that the kind of source you want to be citing?

Do you realize that Philly City Paper is an indy media free rag that is as left-wing as they come?

Do you realize they routinely trash Republicans?

Do you realize that they are pro-abort, pro-gay, anti-gun and pro-welfare and worship the Occupy Wall Street mentablity?

Do you realize that they were an active part of an ongoing left-wing campaign to attack Rick Santorum in 2005-2006?

Or do you just not care?
