Santorum never lied about Newt Gingrich, just like Michelle Bachmann never lied about Newt Gingrich.

I will not vote for Newt Gingrich because, like Romney, I do not TRUST anything that comes out of the man’s mouth. He is a manipulator and an opportunist. He once said “It not important what I say or do, it’s that I can say in ways others can’t”. Just because he speaks conservatism doesn’t make him a conservative. I see what he’s trying to do in this election as no different from what Romney tried in 2008 to run as the “conservative” alternative to McCain. They’re both RINOs.

He supported TARP. That is a fact. He won’t call out climate change for what it is: junk science. He looks to Big Government solutions on items such as Healthcare and thinks Government has a role in Healthcare at all. He threw Paul Ryan under the bus. He flipped on whether or not to support the House on the Payroll tax and debt ceiling issues. He has ALWAYS been a supporter of Big Tent Republicanism, which is why we had so many RINOs in Congress to begin with and why he had no problem endorsing Dede.

you have that wrong. Replace “Rick” with “Newt” and your statement makes more sense.

Gingrich said that “300 pages of Obamacare” were worth keeping around. Santorum has said nothing of the sort except total repeal.

Rick’s Senate record is big government/big labor to the core. He has expressed his belief in government “shaping” and “manipulating” the free market, and his hostility to individualism many many times.

Wasn't Richard Viguerie a fundraiser for Ronald Reagan? Reagan's experience in 1980 should give him pause for demanding that someone drop out of the race this early on. None of the Republican establishment thought Reagan had much of a chance during his primary, either, but it sure turned out OK for him in the primaries, then against Jimmah in the General election.

I like having all of them battling for the hearts and minds of Republicans. The more they have to defend their positions, the better they hone their skills for taking on Obama and his lapdog media.

And several little ones — a few hundred Gingrich votes in Alaska’s caucuses would have put Santorum over Romney.

And you can actually do that in Caucuses, which you can’t really do in primaries.

Remember in 2008, the West Virginia caucuses? It looked like Romney was going to win — in the early voting, he held the lead. So Huckabee, who would rather have Romney lose than get a few meaningless votes, called his caucus leaders, and told them to throw their votes to McCain. In the final count, McCain won the state.

So, why didn’t Newt Gingrich call his Alaska team, and tell them to throw their votes to Rick Santorum? He could have easily given Santorum the victory, and the Alaska delegates. Gingrich isn’t going to get any delegates in Alaska.

I don’t think there has been a single caucus yet where Gingrich could have won with a few Santorum votes. So Alaska was probably the first chance for us to see if either candidate was willing to do the little things that would show they saw stopping Romney was the most important thing.

Huckabee actually DID it in 2008. Gingrich failed to do so last night.

I think the reason few people outside of FR are calling for Santorum to quit is that, outside of FR, Gingrich isn’t really considered the front-running contender.

Coming in last in most of the primaries and caucuses tends to make people forget about you. Winning your home state is better than not winning your home state, but the candidates are expected to crush the competition in their home state.

Santorum isn’t beating Romney in the major primaries, but he is almost winning, and he’s pulling 2nd in those contests, not getting beaten by Ron Paul.

Ron Paul votes would probably stay home or go to Romney, so what difference does it make if he drops out. And there’s nothing to indicate that Gingrich could win any more states if Santorum dropped out. Where Gingrich came in 2nd, in no case would all of santorum’s votes put him in first place. Whereas there are not multiple large and small states where half of Gingrich’s 4th-place voters could have put Santorum over Romney.

It’s a lot easier to argue that a 4th-place finisher should give 10,000 votes to the 2nd-place conservative to beat Romney, than it is to argue that the 2nd-place conservative should try to throw a couple hundred thousands votes over to the 4th-place guy in the hopes he doesn’t just lose those voters over to Romney as well.

Well, it’s pretty certain he won’t take Kansas, since apparently he is dropping out of that contest altogether.

Gingrich seems to be taking the approach of ensuring he can’t possible win the nomination, but also making sure that no other conservative can take the nomination.

That might be a rational strategy, but nobody can argue anymore that Gingrich is actually trying to win the nomination outright. He’s skipped too many states for that.

At some point you have to stop playing tic-tac-toe and realize that the game is chess.

My agenda is to 1) Stop Mitt, and 2) Stop Obama. It doesn’t have to be Newt that does those, AFAIC.

And right now, Newt is getting in the way of #1.

I was a big fan of my dog, too, but when he turned 15, he started pooping in the house, would shake uncontrollably, and could no longer make it down the stairs by himself to his beloved backyard. And I’m still a fan, but...

More and more, it looks to me as if that’s what Newt wants. He probably thinks Santorum would be a huge disaster, and would pull down the entire GOP. So while Newt still would prefer himself as nominee, Romney appears to be his number two choice.

So not only do you have no respect for the people whose hard work created the conservative movement in America, you also have a hard time with basic logic.

I'm not calling for Newt or for Santorum to drop out.

All I was calling for was showing more respect for Richard Viguerie who is a great conservative patriot. I don't agree with everything Viguerie ever said, but he deserves more than a "who cares".

Personally I believe the one who should drop out is Romney, but that ain't gonna happen.
