A Judge has ruled that the ballot will stand as is for the Virginia primary with Ron Paul and Mitt Romney as the only candidates in the presidential primary.
In a 22 page ruling the Judge basically said that the Plaintiffs: Perry,Gingrich,Santorum,Huntsman waited too long to file their request for an injunction.
The Judge said: In essense, they played the game, lost, and then complained that the rules were unfair, Judge Gibney pulled no punches here: They knew the rules in Virginia many months ago; the limitations on circulators affected them as soon as they began to circulate petitions. The plaintiffs could have challenged the Virginia law at that time. Instead, they waited until after the time to gather petitions had ended and they had lost the political battle to be on the ballot; then on the eve of the printing of absentee ballots, they decided to challenge Virginias laws .The traditional purpose of a preliminary injunction is to prohibit an action. Preliminary injunctions are meant to protect the status quo In this case, the plaintiffs request that the Court require the Board to add their names to the primary ballot, which is a positive act that alters the status quo.
In essence the judged looked at the LAW, and ruled on the LAW, and didnt practice activism. Fantastic. If people do not like the ruling they need to change the LAW in Virginia!

Stuff does happen?
Congratulations to Ron Paul for his upcoming Virginia win.
I’d love to see Ron Paul supporters come out in force and crush Romney in VA.
The fact that you filed a lawsuit says your STUPID. You couldn’t pull your self from the teat of your handlers long enough to say “hey we better register with Virginia this week”. It is proof that you don’t deserve the nomination. Thanks but no thanks.
Now turn your incompetence toward the No Romney campaign.
LOL!
You got that right.
Reminiscent of Operation Chaos. Think that Paul couldn't actually win but then no one though Obama could either.
I'm hoping write-in will win. Not impossible if Conservatives organize now.
This is what Republicans get for playing by the rules, unlike Obama and Clinton in Indiana.
No write-ins in VA primaries. I don’t have a voice in this primary, so I will stay home.
I would encourage any VA residents to vote for Ron Paul just to deny Romney a win.
And????
If you put incompetence in charge of your election I don’t think your should feign ignorance. It doesn’t help your chances at all. In fact I now have an even lower view of Perry.
“the person in charge in VA for Perry deliberately sabotaged this for him”
Aw, give it up. That’s just childishly silly after all the facts that have come out.
I do think Perry should appeal. The judge’s ‘laches’ reasoning isn’t foolproof IMO, though IANAL.
I don’t have any problem with the ruling. I DO have a problem with the idiotic VA GOP for such a disaster. Then again . . . the other candidates knew the rules. Git er done.
Virginia Republicans are the dumbest people on Earth. Romney will win 90%.
In before the “Virginia isn’t really a Southern state, anyway” posts.
hey we better register with Virginia this week
Obviously no clue on the Virginia process necessary to get on the ballot.
Yes, it will be interesting to see how Romney does against a single candidate, even Ron Paul.
The whole system is a joke. We get no say in the nomination process anyway as its always over long before our primary in NC.
Some have said that the State of Virginia made the rules, Not the Republican Party of Virginia.
Either way, the fix was in.
Very very bad things happening.
A Mitt forced on the Republican Party over the very strong Conservative wing, opens Pandora’s Box.
This may go on right up to the Convention.
“...lower view of Perry.”
And Gingrich.
Yep, and here in TX we are tied up in the court drawn reapportionment mess. We are waiting for them to re-open the filing process because of the delay.
What a mess.
Go vote for Ron Paul. It’s a stratagy vote.
“Go vote for Ron Paul. Its a stratagy vote.”
My husband has already made up his mind to do that....I might, as well.
"the limitations on circulators affected them as soon as they began to circulate petitions. The plaintiffs could have challenged the Virginia law at that time"...
The so-called "circulators" getting the qualifying petitions for candidates to be on the ballot apparently have to be from Virginia, and not from out-of-state (I read this elsewhere), but the point is...
How could a theoretically main-stream candidate mess this up?! SHEESH!! So the Virginia primary will basically be a waste of time, although not convention delegates, in actually choosing a nominee to run against Obama, and that's very unfortunate, IMHO! What's the point of a Romney/Paul contest??
More clarification on this issue would definitely be welcome!!
Yep, The Republican apparatchiks are a national disgrace.
The Convention should be interesting.
It doesn’t speak well of the Gingrich, Santorum, and Perry campaigns that they allowed this to happen. And it looked even worse that they turned to the courts to fix their poor planning and execution.
Actually this is just more of the Republican establishment protecting themselves. Yes they did wait too long to cry BS (why because they are part of the establishment).
This law is intended solely to keep non establishment candidates off the ballots.
And if someone sued with enough lead time the judge would rule that they weren’t harmed yet so they have no case.
Why not vote for the republican on the ballot that you prefer?
This whole thing stinks. While my candidate’s ox doesn’t get gored by it, it still stinks to high heaven. Remember that the decision by the VA GOP to review the petitions was made very soon before the time ended to submit the petitions.
I was going to vote for Ron Paul anyway, but this just makes me all that more determined to help him win in VA.
Oh, and I’ve decided to join the VA GOP as well. For the very first time I finally have some good reasons for wanting to be a Republican. Lord help me, it’ll tough to bite back the bile.

“Why not vote for the republican on the ballot that you prefer?”
I’m a Ron Paul supporter, so I will. But there is no way to put a write-in on the ballot.
The whole thing stinks like week old fish.
I thought the Judge told Perry it would be better if the others enjoined with him, well they did. Now the Judge says they ran out of time???
This is the type of Judge Newt says needs to be replaced ir fired.
The Convention
Yep, I am planning to be at the Texas Republican Convention.
The scheduling of this mess is in limbo because of the court redrawing the reapportionment districts.
We check daily to be informed when they will open the primary candidate process again. They froze it when the court acted.
The Primary date is set in April 3rd, but as of 1-5-2012 “the courts have set the final day a person can file to be on the Republican (or Democrat) Primary Ballot as 6 PM on February 1st, but as of this moment, the day you can begin to file for a spot on the ballot is STILL TO BE DETERMINED BY COURT ORDER.” (still no date as of 1-14-2010)
What a mess.
You are right I don’t have a clue, and apparently neither does Perry or Gingrich.
Ron Paul can't win but if he gets enough support he will run as an Independent and be a spoiler. That will reelect Obama. You should rethink your advice.
We don't know if he met the standards the judge thinks exists.
On the other hand we do know that Mullins and Bolling are bedside bunnies with Mitt and the Mittbots, and apparently so is the Governor, and probably others.
Their running dog lackeys changed the rules regarding what signatures needed checked AFTER Mitt got 15,000. Everybody knows that if he'd had 10000 the rule would have been 10000.
Sorry, Cheaters Never Win and these pukes are OUTTA VIRGINIA POLITICS FOR LIFE.
Not a one of them can run for office again without serious harassment, and that ever present public question ~ properly lodged, about "Well, Governor, how do we know there's any integrity in your campaign ~ you cheated for Mitt and deprived Virginia voters of any choices in the primary".
And it won't be just Republicans raising the issue ~ there are these critters called Democrats and I am very certain THEY will use the issue.
It certainly has more substance than "Macaca"!
If the goobers screwing up the Republican party operation in Virginia want to do that TELL US and we'll DO WHAT IS NECESSARY to make sure the goober's and their wet hair candidates don't get onto the ballot as Republicans.
Frankly, the Republican elite in Virginia CHEATED.
It’s your fault ~ not theirs. You people owe it to the rest of us to FIX THE LAW by Thursday. Else, ...............
We are witnessing the most corrupt political process in the history of the nation.
We have not had the degree of lawlessness at the Federal Government since the Civil War.
Total disregards for the Constitution and the Rule of Law.
The Left’s “end justifies the means” mentality.
Total insanity is present my friend.
Long hard row this year.
Arthur H. Bremer has been loose ~ they watch for him in Maryland so I wouldn’t expect any problem there, but the Virginia elite have certainly attracted the attention of folks like ol’ Art there and the other 400,000 madmen on the Secret Service list.
In that case, vote for Paul to keep Romney from getting the delegates.
Romney will not carry Texas.
Take that to the bank.
I doubt that Ron Paul will either, even if Rick were to pull out.
If Rick Perry is still in the race when the Primary takes place in TX he will carry the state.
This kabuki dance is a long way from over, in spite of what is said on TV.
It makes me ill thinking about the talented people who would make a great president who will never run for any public office because of the brutal treatment of any who try to stop this.
The problem these guys had was not someone forgetting to sign up.
Even though they both may have had the required number of voters on the Virginia GOP required petitions, they missed by having some of their workers NOT being registered Virginia voters, a requirement that seems to have been changed less than 30 days before the deadline to submit petitions.
Both Romney and RonPaul have more or less continued running since 2008 and they had the ground team ready and running.
This whole thing has an odor of a fix being in for Romney.
