President Barack Obama’s December wish list didn’t include what he hoped to get from Santa Claus. Instead, he listed big names whose endorsement he hopes to secure before Election Day in November.
The star-studded list, dated December 5 and published on Wednesday by The Tennessean, contains past and current “surrogates” who Obama hopes will support him this year.
In all, the list of Hollywood heavyweights, professional athletes and Washington power players is seven pages and 194 names long.
It includes entertainers like Jay-Z, the Counting Crows, Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, Lea Michelle, Robert Cray, the Jonas Brothers and Oprah Winfrey — alongside business and public policy leaders like Warren Buffett, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, Sen. John Kerry, film producer Harvey Weinstein and HBO co-president Richard Plepler.
Obama also wants the support of sexy A-list actresses like Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway, Eva Longoria and Blake Lively.
Also on the list, Canadian alt-rock band Arcade Fire. The Grammy-winning band played at one of Obama’s inaugural balls in 2008.
Embattled Attorney General Eric Holder is on the list, but a prominent cabinet member is missing: Hillary Clinton.

That is smart to a degree. It will influence the non-thinkers but unfortunately for him, the non-thinkers are also usually the non-voters.

The list doesn’t identify who Maya Soetero-Ng is; I suppose they don’t want to disclose that she’s Obama’s sister.
Wouldn’t you want to secure the endorsement first, rather than risk being dissed by a particular celebrity who didn’t want to participate? The embarrassment from being rejected by one would far outweigh the benefit from endorsements from the remaining celebrities, IMHO.

Makes sense in one way - a bunch of empty-head endorsements aimed at the empty heads of the liberal base, desinge to keep the empty head/empty suit in the WH. Trouble is, too many idiots have a misguided “respect” for the “celebrities”.

A spokeswoman for the country group Lady Antebellum told The Tennessean that the band is surprised to see the their name on the list.
“The members of Lady Antebellum did not submit their name for inclusion on the surrogate list for Obama’s campaign,” Mary Hilliard Harrington said in a statement. “[T]he band has never commented on their political affiliations nor do they plan to in the future.”

Remember that famous Vicks 44 TV Ad that had a soap opera actor saying “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV.”? Celebrity endorsements are at the same level of idiocy, because they are known for ‘something’, you should follow their advice.
Unfortunately, we live in a media-dominated & celebrity-promoting world and this gives us a situation where these people inflate each other endlessly! Where else would you find the Kardashian clan taken seriously?
Since I am a FReeper and as such I pay attention to the real world (not hollywierd), real world finances (not ‘pie-in-the-sky’) and real world affairs, I find the endorsement of an idiot by a band of idiots to be an endorsement of my own rational desire to see the idiot of the first part returned to private life.
