Romney Is Exposing His True Self

Americans do not require that their presidents have humble origins. In fact, many of the men who have occupied the Oval Office have been sons of privilege who added to their family fortune before taking on the presidency. But in this time when so many are struggling economically, our president and our presidential candidates should at least be able to sincerely empathize with the plight of the unemployed, the underemployed and all those who are truly fearful over their financial future.

We currently have a president who has amused himself over our collective plight. President Barack Obama had a good laugh literally at our expense to the tune of $800 billion when he joked that "Shovel ready wasn't as shovel ready as we expected." And now we have a multimillionaire (and son of a multimillionaire) Mitt Romney claiming, “I know what it’s like to worry whether you’re going to get fired. There were a couple of times I wondered if I was going to get a pink slip."

I’ve successively supported Cain, then Perry, but the choices are getting difficult now.

Ron Paul - domestic ideas are fairly solid but due to foreign policy he is DOA in my books. Can’t vote for him.

Newt - insider politician, family values laughable, egotistical, lobbyist, divisive. No executive experience.

Rick Santorum - thinks in big government solutions by default, too much of an emphasis on family values when the economy and foreign matters should be a strength instead. No executive experience.

Perry - like the guy, but polling at 1% and I don’t think he has the intellectual fire-power to take on O.

I can’t see for the life of me why Mitt is such a bad option. He understands the economy, has served as a savy business executive for years, and has some good ideas about how to decrease unemployment. He’s squeaky clean and has a good family, no moral skeletons in the closet. He’s a member of a minority religion, so he will definitely protect our freedom of individual right to worship as we please. On healthcare, he did what he thought should be done at state level in MA, and has said repeatedly that the federal government should leave those decisions on the state level; he has specifically said he would repeal Obamacare.

Given the mess that the economy is in, I have a hunch that the tables will continue to tilt in Romney’s favor..I wish Cain were still in, but I can’t see why Romney is such a horrible option...I’m keeping my eyes open and evaluating info as it comes out, so definitely not a so-called Romneybot here, lol.

Romney has a record of changing his position on a variety of important issues when it’s politically experdient to do so. While I’d vote for him over Obama in a general election, I believe there are better candidates in the GOP field. That doesn’t make Romney a bad option, just not the best option.

Taking on Obama? Sure. Eating Jell-o with one hand? Maybe not.

What are you talking about? George Romney and his family were so poor, they were digging potatoes to stay alive. He was a self-made man and did not really make any money until Mitt, the youngest, was about 12 or 13. Before that, his Dad was working his way up the ladder just like millions of other Americans. George, the father, was a hard worker, a go getter, and had the gift of gab that made him a spokesman for the auto industry during WWII. But he was married and his eldest 2 children were born pre-War and it was very much still the Depression. He lived the American Dream of that era, no college degree, self-made, pulled himself out of poverty and up the ladder to be a CEO and get elected to the Governorship of Michigan and in later life HUD Secretary. He taught his children to be frugal, industrious, and to respect the value of a dollar.

Welcome to FR.

Mitt Romney is Pro-abortion, pro-homosexuals having more rights and elevated rights than you or I have, pro-banning guns, pro-government run healthcare.
He’s a liberal.
Doesn’t matter what his alleged background is, he is NOT a conservative and is NOT suited to run this country.

That is utter nonsense!

Myth was born in 1947, George had major positions lobbying for the auto industry BEFORE Myth was born and took a senior executive position with what would become American Motors when Myth was still a newborn.

It seems that you joined yesterday and your only post thus far is to push Myth Romney.

This is a conservative, pro-life forum and we don't like leftist abortionists like Romney.

I have a feeling your time here will be brief.

“Self Made Man.” I agree this is crap.

Mitt went from getting his JD at Harvard to working for a consulting firm that lead to Bain.

If you have ever worked as a senior manager in any type of public organization, you know that when the ilk of Mitt Romney comes through your door....your days are numbered.

Does he understand business? Well, he understands balance sheets and EBITDA. He does not have ANY experience building a business himself, or working in any type of business. That is, he did not get his hands dirty.

After ten minutes in your office, you knew that folks like Mittens had you by your financial scrotum, or you kicked him out for being petulant.

Savvy executive?

Try bean counter of the Xth degree. He did not make a nickel through his own ideas or work.

He was a take over artist, the likes of which are best viewed in the last half hour or so of Wall Street. Remember the guys in the conference room taking apart the Airline Company? THAT was Mitt.

He might be good at firing people and using theories on how to run a business, but he was no Alfred Sloan, or Steve Jobs. Charismatic leader? Not on your life.

If Romney is our only choice, then I choose to do nothing.

I will work to keep the House conservative, and try to win the Senate.

While I weep for the country under four more years of Obama, with Mitt the country will be fooled for 18 months before they realize he is a douche.

Better we “see” what we are dealing with right up front. And then we will not waste any more time.

What are you talking about? George Romney and his family were so poor, they were digging potatoes to stay alive. He was a self-made man and did not really make any money until Mitt, the youngest, was about 12 or 13.

George Romney Bio info:

In 1939 he moved to Detroit and joined the American Automobile Manufacturers Association, where he served as the chief spokesperson for the automobile industry during World War II and headed a cooperative arrangement in which companies could share production improvements. He joined Nash-Kelvinator in 1948, and became chairman and CEO of its successor, American Motors Corporation in 1954. There he turned around the struggling firm by focusing all efforts on the smaller Rambler car. Romney mocked the products of the "Big Three" automakers as "gas-guzzling dinosaurs" and became one of the first high-profile, media-savvy business executives.

Mitt Romney info:

Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is an American businessman and politician.

Ok Sara, here's the facts: Mitt Romney was born after George Romney was already a high paid executive and Mitt was only 7 when his father became CEO of American Motors.

Yeah, Mitt grew up in poverty (when compared to the way he lives now). /s

Picking potatoes? LOL!!

Sara, Mitt Romney did not come from an underprivilege family. Nor did his father. His grandparents were sent by the Mormon church to Mexico to head up their polygamy unit there, and it was there that Mitt's dad was born. The Mexico Romney's were well off, but a revolution in Mexico forced them to flee to the US where it took little time to get their feet back on the ground. His dad married Lenore LaFount whose connected father was appointed by then Pres. Coolidge to the Federal Radio Commission. Romney himself was from one of the original big-deal families in Mormonism with his mom being a Pratt.

With that kind of power adding wind to his sails, George Romney's rise was apparently despite either his academic or athletic ability. IOW, he was helped.

Mitt Romney himself was born with a silver spoon in his mouth in 1947, and was accepted into a lucrative leadership position at Bain Capital because of those connections. IOW, he was a blue-blood and, therefore, worthy of being dubbed a peer of the glitterati.

He was in no way whatsoever a struggling commoner who clawed his way to the top. That would be Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Rick Perry. Newt's dad deserted his family. Santorum's was a coal miner. Perry's a rancher.

I don't know if I'm IBTZ or not, but this is a Pro-Life website and Romney is not.
