Dire Warnings and 100 Items You Need to Survive
Fellowship of the Minds ^ | 1/2/12 | Dr. Eowyn

Posted on 01/02/2012 7:55:29 PM PST by Kartographer

ow that we’ve done our cheery “Happy New Year” greetings, it’s time to get more serious.

I’m a boomer. In my lifetime, I can’t remember a new year beginning with such dire warnings and grim outlook.

This morning, the UK’s The Telegraph reports that Americans bought record numbers of guns last month amid an apparent surge in popularity for weapons as Christmas presents.

Another UK paper, Daily Mail, is grimmer still. Dominic Sandbrook writes that a “loss of faith in politicians and democracy could make 2012 the most frightening year in living memory.” Sandbrook goes as far as to compare our time with the Great Depression:

“For the most chilling parallel, though, we should look back exactly 80 years, to the cold wintry days when 1931 gave way to 1932…. It was in 1931 that the Great Depression really took hold in Europe, bringing governments to their knees and plunging tens of millions of people out of work. Then as now, the crisis had taken years to gather momentum. After the Wall Street Crash in 1929 — just as after the banking crisis of 2008 — some observers even thought that the worst was over. But in the summer of 1931, a wave of banking panics swept across central Europe.”

Black clouds cover the horizon, the lightening is flashing and there is the distant sound of thunder! The storm flags are going up, who you heed them?

I think that at best we are in for a collapse much like that of Argentina. A excellent 12 part documentary on the economic collapse of Argentina can be see on YouTube with opart one here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH6_i8zuffs

I am very aware that if it’s the great end that there is nothing I can do to stop or change it, but history is full of instances and times when man or nature have caused such a calamity that people have cried out and begged God to end it all.

The bible has many verse such as this:

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

This verse and others are there for a reason and I urge all to take heed of them, because we are clearly on the edge. Everyday there is a new story about the ‘Yutes’ who grow more restless everyday and when you add the fact that because of the economy people are already on edge it won’t take much to set things off.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.

Today we have ‘yutes’ who roam our streets who are with out morals, without respect for law or life itself. They will look are you with the same ‘doll eyes’ a shark does before he eats you and they will feel no more compassion than the shark does.

That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://www.tomeaker.com/kart/preparedness1i.pdf

(NOTE THIS DOWNLOAD IS FREE AND I DO NOT MAKE A DIME OFF OF IT. ALSO NOTE THAT THE MANUAL IS CLEARLY MARKED AS NOT BEING FOR SALE. I PUT TOGETHER THIS MANUAL FOR ONLY ONE PURPOSE AND THAT IS TO HELP FELLOW PATRIOTS TO PREPARE THEMSELVES FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IS COMING.)

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

Though I believe that the collapse we face will be much like that of Argentina I also believe that ours will be much more violent and there will be what I call ‘Pock Progoms’ which will be very violent and life for some will quickly become much more like that of Bosina.

For a somber, yet realistic look at what SHFT in Bosina was like I urge you to read some of a Bosinian name Selco’s posted here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2798007/posts

If you like to read more about what SHTF in Bosnia was like take a look at this post on Bosnia War Survivor Selco’s Blog at:

http://shtfschool.com/

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.”

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Two points right off the bat. First of all, “loss of faith in politicians and democracy”, is not inherently a bad thing.

Most Americans do not see mankind as inherently good or inherently evil. If there is any such perception it is that people are inherently *weak* and flawed.

So what kind of politicians do we expect? Weak ones, of course. And we also expect them to be flawed, at least to a tolerable level.

But that is okay, because despite most of them thinking they rule over us, most of us think of them as somewhat irksome, ill behaved and not particularly bright employees.

Are we surprised that a four time elected US senator is still unable to do the minimum expected of him? No more than we are surprised that a dim witted fast food employee hasn’t mastered the cooking of french fries, even if his job exists because of the good cleaning he gives the restrooms.

And guns? Buying lots of guns is a very good sign, because it means that people are wising up, that government can’t keep us safe by itself, and yet they are willing to protect and defend themselves. They are not fatalistic in any way.

If they go down, they will go down fighting, and such resistance make attempts at oppressing us much, much harder.

22LR Rifle

The 22LR will be the most useful weapon of all. You can buy years worth of ammo now for a small investment. They are accurate, and It will bring down all small game, wild and domestic (If the SHTF there won’t be much big game to bring down after a few weeks). Though they are not the best choice for home defense, after the SHTF, the bad guys will be unable to get bullets in a short time, while you have thousands. Nuff said on that. And the report does not carry far, giving away your position, and all members of the family can use it.

Important thing to remember...

Evil people without any fear of authority or restraint will become more evil.

My wife has a hemorrhoid when I talk about buying freeze dried food. I know that pasta, rice, beans can keep for quite a while, but other than that, what is the longest lasting off the shelf food.
At least she hasn’t objected to my gold, guns, ammo, and alcohol purchases.

To hell with that. Our Gov is EVIL, weak and flawed. Talk all the fancy talk, quote all the founders. Our founders warned us of this day. Well, it’s here. This is now, and now is what we are fighting. I won’t be regulated my freedom. F the gov. I’m going to live my life.

If “they” (AKA government) are going to take away my freedom and liberty, I’m going to fight until the end.

Come and get me.

Put up 5 more cases of Top Ramen last week... now I don’t want to try to live on Top Ramen, but it’s a good start because you can add just about anything to it, use it as a soup or make a stew-base out of it...

Good point. We would not trade our 10/22 with the 25 round banana clips for anything. Besides hunting you could definitely ruin somebody’s day with that weapon. You don’t always have to break out the AK.

Canned food, so long as it is not exposed to extreme temps, is good for years after the use-by date, which date is already years in the future.

Buying lots of guns is a very good sign, because it means that people are wising up, that government can’t keep us safe by itself

With so many headlines showing gun sales are up, it will be very telling what the government's reaction will be. I'm also curious how many of those sales involve the proper paperwork.
