Sheriff Joe Arpaio had his first run-in with a group of suspected illegal immigrants since things heated up with the Department of Justice.
The Department of Justice recently revoked his deputies' ability to check immigration status inside Maricopa County jails.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Lt. Justin Griffin says they pulled over a vehicle and have eight people in their custody for human smuggling at 35th Avenue and Durango.
Griffin says they attempted to give four of the detainees to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but MCSO says ICE is refusing to take them.
Griffin says, "We asked ICE, 'If we were DPS, would you take them from us?' And we were told specifically, 'Yes.'"

ICE-Trained MCSO Deputies Turn In Badges
Nearly 100 ICE-trained deputies checked the immigration status of inmates at their jails. In place of all those deputies, the feds pledged to have 50 ICE agents in place at the jails. So far, they've only sent one.
"I'm going to keep tabs to see what year, or what century, those 50 agents take to replace our dedicated officers."
The sheriff says the holds placed on suspected illegals have decreased dramatically since his authority was stripped.
"Common sense and good management would be, ok sheriff we're going to take away your authority, but please keep doing it until we get our 50 officers to take over. No, they kicked us out. Putting public safety at risk," said Arpaio.
The sheriff said when his deputies were running the show, they put holds on an average of 15.5 suspected illegal immigrants a day. Since ICE took over last week, they've only placed holds on 3 people.
You got it. I say it is time to start holding the people pulling the strings accountable. When their lilly-white backsides start landing in jail they’ll soon change their tune regarding political correctness and politics.

The Obama thugs are overstepping their bounds. The whole country needs to see what these people are willing to do in order to cover for Obama. One lie is never enough, and I was saying back in January of 2010 that if we allowed the criminal actions of Obama in regards to his eligibility to go unchecked it would lead to full-out lawlessness. That’s exactly what we’re seeing. Anybody who claims this is a fringe issue needs to look at what these criminals in positions of power are willing to do to cover for Obama, who they know to be an illegal, criminal usurper and enemy combatant in the White House.
They are willing to throw out all law enforcement.
All the crocodile tears for people not being safe unless we give more money to police unions, etc.... is sickening, especially when they have revealed their true colors with AZ. They would happily put every citizen in danger by getting rid of law enforcement in order to cover their own crimes.
No words are strong enough to describe the putrid stench from this administration. This is a declaration of war against the USA.
We are defending the borders as states.
The problem is that the Feds are thwarting the states.
Arpaio should put up a large tent city, armed guards on towers, refuse entry to all federal officials, hold all the detainees there indefinitely. Feed them only what is delivered and paid for by the fed gov.

The FEDs aren’t waging war on the illegals.
They are waging war on states rights.
Wanna know the real irony? The Injustice Department accused Arpaio of not sufficiently investigating alleged crimes. But ICE gets a crew of people who have admitted they committed the crime of entering the country illegally and ICE REFUSES TO ACCEPT THEM.
I say judge them by the measure they have judged Arpaio. If they’re going to strip Arpaio of authority because he didn’t sufficiently investigate, then we need to strip ICE of any authority because they refused to even process what they KNEW to be crimes.
We need to insist that along with the Fast & Furious investigation into how these agencies have retaliated against the whistle-blowers who support the law, the investigation needs to also include this attempted strangulation of the rule of the law by the same criminals from Fast & Furious (DHS specifically in this case).
This is all-out war against America. Well, I guess if they can commit acts of war against Mexico why not commit acts of war against the US? Neither place is the place Obama has allegiance to.

Maricopa County, AZ is the 4th most populous in the United States. Its population is larger than 23 STATES - nearly 4 million.
Joe Arpaio's MSCO apprehends and detains 25% of ALL criminal illegal aliens in the U.S. each year. Arpaio has - correction, until this morning HAD - 91 deputies who did nothing else but check immigration status in his jails. Today, ICE replaced them all with ONE agent. His deputies detain on average 16 criminal illegals per day. Since ICE took over last week, they have detained a grand total of 3.
The numbers involved are staggering. People are going to DIE because of Obama's action who would not have died before, and not just in Arizona. This is not a game. People do not realize the numbers involved here.
Give them in-state college tuition and stop being so heartless.
When Arpaio endorsed Rick Perry it made me think that Perry must be tougher on illegal immigration than we all think he is. Somebody tell me again what Perry has said about illegal immigration, and what he has done. I know he basically said we’d be heartless if we didn’t allow in-state tuition for the children of illegals. I know he’s said there are portions of the border that he thinks can’t really have a fence. So why is Arpaio endorsing him? Tell me how you know Perry understands that we are under assault.
