We're a Culture, Not a Costume Too Selective outrage over Halloween costumes

By Kevin DeAnna

A student group at the University of Ohio has received praise from the mainstream media for its "We're a culture, not a costume" campaign. The group is called Students Teaching About Racism in Society. As with all multicultural groups, it is fundamentally a product of the administration, beginning in 1988 as a class. Ohio University also features a multicultural center with no fewer than 31 separate student organizations (including STARS) featured on the site. The group's president is one Sarah Williams (age 24) who works in the school's Division of Student Affairs Office. The Dean of Students, Ryan Lombardi, said "We were immediately receptive... we thought they were great, well done, and professional. We immediately agreed to fund them." Of course.

I hope that you did not misunderstand what this article is about: it is from a conservative viewpoint advocating making fun of the “We’re a culture, not a costume” posters.

These skulls full of mush are ignorant children who have been taught what to think but not how to think. This is nothing more than cultural chauvinism. If it's okay for these stupid kids, why is it so wrong for Americans?

Go yank someone else's chain.

IBTZ!

Sarah Williams, age 24, was around and probably in college in 2008 when the tolerant, kind liberals in CA hung effigies of Sarah Palin for Halloween. I can't seem to find the story about her objection to all that. Anyone have a link for me?

Biggest party school in the country. They go nutzo over Halloween. Which makes Saucy Sandra and her gang of 10 wowsers a bit sad.

And that's wrong. Would it be acceptable to make fun of people who lacked sight, or hearing, or legs? Why is it considered "fun" to mock the humorless?

You are probably referring to "Ohio University" in Athens. I know it well.
In Columbus there is "Ohio State University" - also know it well.

Just a poke at the "University of Ohio" name. That kind of prejudges the info content of the article for me.
